  • 본 논문은 철강공장의 냉각수 처리 시스템에서 고로 집진수를 대상으로 한 응집교반실험을 실시한 결과, 주기적인 관 갱생작업(산세척)과 분산제의 주입이 필요하며, 음이온 고분자응집제에 양이온 고분자응집제를 첨가하여 사용할 경우에 탁도 제거측면에서 우수하였다. 급속교반 후 완속교반을 적용할 경우 급속교반 후 침전보다 탁도 제어 효과가 더 우수한 것으로 관찰되었으므로, 침전지의 처리효율을 증가시키기 위해서는 급속교반과 완속교반이 동시에 필요하였다.

  • Recently“ride comfort”problem becomes increasingly important because of today's needs for train speedup The concept of term “riding comfort” is equivocal. Generally it is defined as the vehicle vibration. There are many studies on evaluation method of ride comfort for railway. But each of then recommends the different assessment method and the different guidance. So users must review whether they can apply it to their system or not. In this paper, we discuss the evaluation methods defined in the standards - ISO 2631, UIC 513 R, CEN DRAFT prENV 12299 and the ride index suggested by Sperling.

Analysis of Generation and Amplification Mechanism of Abnormal Waves Occurred along the West Coast of Korea (서해안 이상파랑의 발생 및 증폭 기구 분석)

  • On 31 March 2007, the abnormal wave occurred along the western coast of Korea. In order to investigate the generation mechanism of abnormal waves and to understand the amplification process of the abnormal waves, the observed data were analyzed and one-dimensional numerical model experiments were performed by using both the linear shallow water equation and the linear Boussinesq equation models. Various types of pressure jump for the abnormal waves previously proposed by other researchers were reviewed. As a result, it was not possible to reproduce the abnormal waves from the previously proposed pressure jumps. In this study, we proposed a new form of pressure jump, and numerical simulations were performed in order to check the validity of the proposed pressure jump. The numerical results showed that the calculated period of abnormal waves and the maximum water elevations agreed reasonably well with those of the observations.

  • Catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds(benzene, toluene, xylene) over transition metals/ALO-6 catalysts was investigated in a fixed bed flow reactor system at atmospheric pressure. The orders of catalytic activities for the complete oxidation of toluene were Cu>Mn>Fe>V>Mo>Co>Ni>Zn for 15% transition metals/ALO-6 catalyst system. Increasing the calcination temperature resulted in decreasing the specific surface areas of catalyst, subsequently the catalytic activity. The loading of Cu on ALO-6 had a great effect on the catalytic activity and 5% Cu/ALO-6 catalyst showed higher catalytic activity, which may be contributed to the uniformly distributed active sites. Benzene, toluene and xylene were completely oxidized to carbon dioxide over 5% Cu/ALO-6 catalyst at over $380^{\circ}C$ and 4.5 g-cat.hr./g-mole. The orders of the kinds of reactants for catalytic activity over 5% Cu/ALO-6 were toluene>xylene>benzene. As the concentration of reactant increased, the catalytic activity decreased due to self-poison of reactant.

  • The physico-chemical characteristics and the combustion activities of a waste automotive catalyst were carried out in this study. The physico-chemical characteristics of waste automotive catalyst was examined by EA(Elemental analysis), ICP-AES (Inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrophotometer), and XRD(X-ray diffraction) analysis. Carbon deposit amount was higher in front brick than rear brick of catalyst, and increased with mileage. The content of Pt. Pd and Rh in waste automotive catalyst was different from the car manufacturing company. The combustion activities of waste automotive catalyst were investigated for acetaldehyde as a model VOC in a fixed bed reactor at atmospheric pressure. The catalytic activity of rear brick for acetaldehyde combustion was better than front brick of waste automotive catalyst. The catalytic activity of waste automotive catalyst for acetaldehyde combustion decreased with mileage. The linear relationship between catalytic activity and mileage was negative and has a very excellent correlation. Finally, the waste automotive catalyst has a good catalytic activity for acetaldehyde combustion. and can be used to control of small emission source.

Morphological Features of Coleosporium xanthoxyli and Its Alternate Host in Korea (산초나무 잎녹병균의 중간기주 및 형태학적 특징)

  • A rust fungus has caused a serious early defoliation of Zanthoxylum schinifolium during growing seasons every year at the plantations located at Hadong and Jinju, Kyeongsangnam-Do in Korea. In order to identify the rust fungus and clarify its life cycle in Korea, aeciospores from Pinus thunbergii were artificially inoculated on the leaves of Z. schinifolium. Uredinial stage was successively formed on the leaves of Z. schinifolium. Based on the artificial inoculation test and on the morphological features of the dried specimens collected from P. thunbergii and Z. schinifolium, this rust fungus was identified as Coleosporium xanthoxyli. Morphological features of aecial and uredinial stages of the species were described. The first symptom of the infection was developed from later June to early July. And leaf infection ratio was 17.8%-58.7% during August at Hadong and Jinju regions of Kyeongsangnam-Do in Korea.

An Application of Drought Severity-Area-Duration Curves Using Copulas-Based Joint Drought Index (Copulas 기반의 결합가뭄지수를 이용한 가뭄심도-영향면적-지속기간 곡선의 적용)

  • In this study, drought Severity-affected Area-drought Duration (SAD) curves are analyzed in order to examine temporal and spatial behavior of drought. A copulas-based joint drought index which is studied recently is applied to express the severity of drought. JDIs across the country with 60 points are calculated monthly basis, and using EOF and Kriging techniques, locational JDIs are spatially extended into gridbased JDIs with spatial resolution of $10{\times}10$ km. JDIs by lattice is analyzed by drought duration and by affected area, and JDI-based SAD curves are created to represent Korean historical drought events. Though created curves, drought events that occurred in the past in our country can be spatially and temporally characterized. In addition, curves are expected to contribute to determine the exact situation on the current drought condition have an impact to some extent.

Development of Google Map-based USGS HYSEP and Application (Web 기반 USGS HYSEP 기저유출 분리 시스템 개발과 평가)

  • 최근 들어 유역의 정확한 수문현상을 파악하기 위하여 유역의 유출량 자료를 직접 유출과 기저유출로 분리한 후 수문 모형의 직접유출 및 기저유출의 수문컴포넌트 검증에 활용하는 연구가 많이 이루어지고 있다. 미국 국립지리국 (USGS) 에서 개발한 HYSEP 모형이 지난 수 년 동안 유출 컴포넌트 분리에 널리 이용되어 오고 있다. 그러나 USGS 기반의 HYSEP의 경우 능숙한 컴퓨터 사용자가 아닌 비전문가들이 HYSEP을 운영하기에는 여러 가지 많은 제한점이 있어 왔다. 그리하여 본 연구에서는 고해상도 위성영상 Google Map 기반의 기저유출분리 프로그램인 Web-based HYSEP 인터페이스를 개발하였다. 이 시스템에는 HYSEP에서 제공하는 3가지 방법인 Fixed Interval / Sliding Interval / Local Minimum 방법이 제공되고 있다. 본 연구에서 개발된 Google Map 기반의 HYSEP 시스템은 USGS 유량 관측지점들에 대해 XML 데이터 포맷으로 DB를 구축하여 Google Map 과 연계하였으며 이를 통해 사용자가 원하는 관측소의 실시간 유량자료를 다운로드 할 수 있도록 개발되어졌다. Google Map 기반의 HYSEP 기저유출 분리 시스템(http://www.EnvSys.co.kr/${\sim}$hysep)은 Perl/CGI 및 자바스크립트, Google Map script 등을 이용하여 개발되었다. 현재 개발된 Google Map 기반의 USGS HYSEP 시스템은 한 곳의 유량관측지점에 대해서 총 3가지 기저유출 모듈을 적용하여 결과를 제공하고 있으며, 그 결과를 테이블이나 그래프 형태로 제공하도록 되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 Google Map 기반의 USGS HYSEP 시스템을 이용하여 미국 인디애나 주의 Little Eagle Creek 유역의 유량자료와 Fixed Interval / Sliding Interval / Local Minimum 방법을 이용하여 기저유출을 분리하였으며, 기존에 널리 활용되는 기저유출 분리 프로그램인 Web 기반의 WHAT 시스템 (http://www.EnvSys.co.k.r/~what) 산정 기저유출량과 비교분석하였다. 분석결과 HYSEP 예측 기저유출치가 전반적으로 WHAT 예측치보다 크게 산정되었다. WHAT 시스템과 본 연구에서 개발한 Web 기반의 HYSEP 일단위 기저유출량을 비교해 본 결과 $R^{2}$가 0.56, EI는 0.52로 어느 정도 비슷한 경향을 나타냈으나, 유역의 특성을 반영하는 WHAT 시스템과는 달리 주어진 유량자료만을 이용하여 기저유출을 분리하는 Web 기반의 HYSEP 기저유출 분리모듈을 개선할 필요가 있는 것으로 판단된다.

Study on recovery of heavy metals from red mud by using the ultrasonic waves (초음파를 이용한 레드머드로부터 유가금속 회수에 관한 연구)

  • The red mud generated from the Bayer alumina production process seriously threatens the environment and human safety. Therefore, the reduction and recycling of red mud is an urgent topic in the aluminum industry. In this study, the effects of four parameters, ultrasound power, reaction temperature, time, and acid concentration, on the leaching of Fe, Al from red mud was investigated. The major parameters influencing the metal recovery efficiency from red mud were ultrasound power and reaction temperature. The use of ultrasonic irradiation resulted in 1.72 and 1.28 times higher recovery efficiency for Fe and Al, respectively. The proper conditions for the recovery of the metal components present in the red mud is the ultrasound intensity (150 W), sulfuric acid concentration (4-6N), reaction temperature ($70^{\circ}C$), and reaction time (2 hours), etc.

  • Squeezing is a phenomenon that may occur in deep tunneling and could bring about a large plastic deformation, tunnel closure and collapse of tunnel supports. Therefore, quantitative estimations of deformation and stress from squeezing and its possibility are necessary for establishment of a rational tunneling method. This study carried out three dimensional numerical analyses using a strain softening model in order to simulate the behaviour of squeezing and to estimate deformation and yield area around tunnels quantitatively. Numerical analyses were performed for 42 cases of various stress and strength conditions. As a result, the maximum tangential stress and strength of rock mass ratio could estimate plastic deformation and yield depth around tunnels and equations of relations between them were proposed.
