Synthesis of Some New Biologically Active Benzothiazole Derivatives Containing Benzimidazole and Imidazoline Moieties

  • Synthesis of N-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-6-substituted-1,3-benzothiazol-2-amines and 6-substituted-N-(4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-1,3-benzothiazol-2-amines by the reaction of substituted 2-aminobenzothiazoles with carbon disulphide and methyl iodide followed by the reaction with o-phenylene diamine/ethylene diamine are reported. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra and $^1H$ NMR spectral studies. The potent antibacterial and entomological (antifeedant, acaricidal, contact toxicity and stomach toxicity) activities of the synthesized compounds were investigated.

Identification of highly pathogenic Beauveria bassiana strain against Pieris rapae larvae

  • Seven different strains of Beauveria bassiana were used in a bioassay on Pieris rapae larvae. The results showed that an B. bassiana strain showed relatively high pathogenicity towards P. rapae larvae. The adjusted mortality rate was 92.86 %, and the infection rate was 85.71 % in 10 days post inoculation. Molecular identification was performed to identify the unknown strain. Internal Transcribed Spacer sequence analysis showed that the polymerase chain reaction amplicon length of the unknown strain of Beauveria sp. was 573 bp, and sequence similarity to the known B. bassiana sequences in the NCBI database was 99 %. The B. bassiana strain was named Bb01. The changes of proteins and PPO of P. rapae larvae infected by B. bassiana Bb01 strain at different times was determined. The activity of PPO increased in 1-6 d and decreased in 7 d again after inoculation. The B. bassiana invaded into the insect body affected the balance of the proteins and PPO.

누에분말 제조 조건에 따른 혈당강하효과 (An Activity of Lowering Blood-glucose Levels Accoring to Preparative Conditions of Silkworm Powder)

  • Bombyx mori, silkworm powder has been studied for blood-glucose lowering activity by National Sericulture & Entomology Research Institute(NSERI) and Kyung Hee University group in 1995. To obtain the optimum preparative condition of silkworm powder for lowering blood-glucose levels in postprandial time, blood-glucose lowering activity of mulberry & silkworm varieties were examined. In mulberry varieties, Samkwangjam showed the highest activity. Activity for lowering blood-glucose levels of autumn rearing silkworm was higher than that of spring silkworm and hybrid silkworm showed higher activity than that of parent silkworm. In the silkworm lines, Chinese lines showed higher activity than that of Japanese lines. In experiments to see the difference in blood-glucose lowering activity between either male and female or larvae and pupae, activity of larvae was higher than that of pupae and the male was higher than female. The heating dry and artificial diet showed lower than mulberry diet and normal freeze dry of the 5th instar 3rd day. Among the sericultural products, larvae showed the highest activity.

한국산 잠견에서 분리된 미생물에 관한 연구(제 II보)(잠견에서 분리된 Bacteria의 Enzyme activity). (The studies on microbe isolated from the cocoon in Korea)

  • There are two fold aims in this experimental study. The aim is to investigate the bacteria which produce the high activity enzyme or the cocoon for utilization to the textile and the industry. The ether is to protect against the bacteria that damage silk protein during storage. The results are summarized as followes: 1. Among the isolated bacteria from the cocoon, No 4 strain had the high activity of the $\alpha$-amylase. But this strain had not been identified. The results of experiment is shown in the table II. 2. Among the isolated bacteria from the cocoon, No II strain had the high activity of the protease on substance of the casein. The results of the experiment is shown in the table II. 3. The bacteria which had the high activity of the degumming effect of the sericin, the part of the operation for 7 days was higher part of the operation for 3 days. The results of the experiment are indicated in Fig I and Fig II.

상엽, 상지 및 잠분 에탄올 추출물의 품종별 세포독성 효과 (Cytotoxicity of the ethanol extracts of mulberry leaves, branches and silkworm feces)

  • The cytotoxicity of the ethanol extracts of varietal samples of mulberry leaves and branches and silkworm feces was measured using CT-26 cells originated from murine metastatic colon cancer, using dye uptake assay in order to find potential anticancer agents. Two ethanol extracts (varietal mulberry leaves and mulberry branches) were prepared from 16 varietal mulberries and used as partial extract materials for the activity assay. Among these, the ethanol extracts from Shinkwangppong leaves showed a little anticancer activity, and those from Sugaeppong, Cheongunppong and Gumsulppong branches showed some anticancer activity as well as cytotoxicity. In contrast, ethanol extracts from freeze-dried, the 3rd day of 5th instar feces showed more potent anticancer activity than that of other mulberry leaves, mulberry branches and other 5th silkworm instar larva feces on the basis of high UV absorbance at 665 nm.

  • 가잠 신장형란의 배자형성에 있어서 유전자의 발현기구를 해명하기 위한 연구의 일환으로, 미수정란 난황단백질과 미수정란으로부터 추출한 RAN의 무세포단백질 합성계에서의 번역활성능에 대해 검토했다. 그 결과, ki란 미수정란의 난황단백질은 질적인 면에서 볼 때 정상란과의 차이를 인정할 수 없었다. 또한 in vitro 무세포 단백질 합성계에서 번역활성능을 가진 모성유래의 mRNA 분자종에 있어서도 ki란은 정상란과의 비교에서 이렇다 할 차이가 없었다.

  • The effects of silkworm extract on body weight, blood glucose and insulin levels, and an intestinal glycosidase activity were studied in high carbohydrate diet administered mice. Hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia represented in high carbohydrate diet administered mice disappeared when silkworm extract(50 mg) was added to 100 g diet for 10 week period. These results suggest that silkworm extract may resolve the insulin resistance by lowering serum insulin level resulting from inhibition of intestinal glycosidase activity. Silkworm extract coadministered with high carbohydrate diet to mice for 10 weeks significantly induced maltase, sucrase and lactase acivities, especially middle and distal portion. Further studies about regulatory mechanisms of glycosidase by silkworm extract are needed.

  • This study was designed to investigate the effect of silkworm powder on oxygen radicals and their scavenger enzymes in brain membrances of SD rats. Hydroxyl radical (OH) levels resulted in a considerable decreases in brain mitochondria fraction. Superoxide radical (O$_2$) levels were a slightly decreased in brain cytosol fraction. Lipid peroxide (LPO) and Oxidized protein (OP) levels were significantly decreased in brain mitochondria and microsomes fraction. Mn-superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was remarkably increased in the mitochondria fraction. Cu and Zn-SOD activities were effectively increased in brain cytosol fraction. GSHPx activity was considerably increased in brain cytosol fraction. These results suggest that anti-aging effect of silkworm plays an effective role in attenuating an oxidative stress and increasing a scravenger enzyme activity in brain membranes.

  • The preparation of skin care gauze could be make to mixing separated cellulose from waste milk pack and degummed silk fibroin fiber. Also, its wound covering and anti-bacterial activity were investigated in order to find out the enhancement of their functionality. By the 30% silk fibroin fiber including skin care gauze, the anti-bacterial activity values of Staphylococcus strain are much 4 times higher than of 0∼10% silk fibroin fiber including skin care gauze. The average yield of cellulose from waste milk pack was obtained 50-60%, and their morphologies, physical properties, modulus and biodegradation ratios are studies, respectively.

  • This study was performed to investigate the catechins which separated from mulberry leaf. The Epicatechin contents in mulberry leves was 1.21${\pm}$0.05 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mg ethylacetate fraction. epigalocatechingallte contents WAS 3.56 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mg ethylacetate fraction. The cathechins (epicatechin and epigalocate-chingallate) separated from mulberry leaf was shown a strong activity to growth inhibition by the concentration of 5 mg/disc on the Clostridium perfringens.
