This paper presents an aspect-oriented approach to simulation design and analysis in system design phase for integrated logistics system simulation. The integrated logistics system composed of AS/RS (Automated Storages and Retrieval System), AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicle System), STVs (Sorting Transfer Vehicle System) and Conveyor System is designed by using the aspect-oriented approach and UML (Unified Modeling Language). The multi-factorial design of experiments and regression analysis are used for design parameters of the system and Evolution Strategies is used to verify each parameter. Aspect-oriented approach for the integrated logistics system simulation shows the advantages of code reusability, extendible, modulation, easy improvement and a better design technique.
This study explores a new energy partitioning approach to determine the fracture toughness of 3-D printed pristine/recycled high density polyethylene (HDPE) blends employing the essential work of fracture (EWF) concept. The traditional EWF approach conducts a uniaxial tensile test with double-edge notched tensile (DENT) specimens and measures the total energy defined by the area under a load-displacement curve until failure. The approach assumes that the entire total energy contributes to the fracture process only. This assumption is generally true for extruded polymers that fracture occurs in a material body. In contrast to the traditional extrusion manufacturing process, the current 3-D printing technique employs fused deposition modeling (FDM) that produces layer-by-layer structured specimens. This type of specimen tends to include separation energy even after the complete failure of specimens when the fracture test is conducted. The separation is not relevant to the fracture process, and the raw experimental data are likely to possess random variation or noise during fracture testing. Therefore, the current EWF approach may not be suitable for the fracture characterization of 3-D printed specimens. This paper proposed a new energy partitioning approach to exclude the irrelevant energy of the specimens caused by their intrinsic structural issues. The approach determined the energy partitioning location based on experimental data and observations. Results prove that the new approach provided more consistent results with a higher coefficient of correlation.
In this paper, we try to prepare an accurate analytical solution for solving nonlinear vibration of thin circular sector cylinder. A new approximate solution called variational approach is presented and correctly applied to the governing equation of thin circular sector cylinder. The effect of important parameters on the response of the problem is considered. Some comparisons have been presented between the numerical solution and the present approach. The results show an excellent agreement between these methods. It has been illustrated that the variational approach can be a useful method to solve nonlinear problems by considering the effects of important parameters.

This paper presents a new method for constructing bilingual lexicons through a pivot language. The proposed method is adapted from the context-based approach, called the standard approach, which is well-known for building bilingual lexicons using comparable corpora. The main difference between the standard approach and the proposed method is how to represent context vectors. The former is to represent context vectors in a target language, while the latter in a pivot language. The proposed method is very simplified from the standard approach thereby. Furthermore, the proposed method is more accurate than the standard approach because it uses parallel corpora instead of comparable corpora. The experiments are conducted on a language pair, Korean and Spanish. Our experimental results have shown that the proposed method is quite attractive where a parallel corpus directly between source and target languages are unavailable, but both source-pivot and pivot-target parallel corpora are available.
This paper adopts and investigates the non-dominated sorting approach for extending the single-objective Cuckoo Search (CS) into a multi-objective framework. The proposed approach uses an archive composed of primary and secondary population to select and keep the non-dominated solutions at each generation instead of pairwise analogy used in the original Multi-objective Cuckoo Search (MOCS). Our simulations show that such a low computational complexity approach can enrich CS to incorporate multi-objective needs instead of considering multiple eggs for cuckoos used in the original MOCS. The proposed MOCS is tested on a set of multi-objective optimization problems and two well-studied engineering design optimization problems. Compared to MOCS and some other available multi-objective algorithms such as NSGA-II, our approach is found to be competitive while benefiting simplicity. Moreover, the proposed approach is simpler and is capable of finding a wide spread of solutions with good coverage and convergence to true Pareto optimal fronts.
In this work, a Gaussian Process (Kriging) approach is proposed to provide efficient dose mapping for complex radiation fields using limited number of responses. Given a few response measurements (or simulation data points), the proposed approach can help the analyst in completing a map of the radiation dose field with a 95% confidence interval, efficiently. Two case studies are used to validate the proposed approach. The First case study is based on experimental dose measurements to build the dose map in a radiation field induced by a D-D neutron generator. The second, is a simulation case study where the proposed approach is used to mimic Monte Carlo dose predictions in the radiation field using a limited number of MCNP simulations. Given the low computational cost of constructing Gaussian Process (GP) models, results indicate that the GP model can reasonably map the dose in the radiation field given a limited number of data measurements. Both case studies are performed on the nuclear engineering radiation laboratories at the University of Sharjah.
The equivalent electroacoustic circuit approach has been conventionally used for estimating the absorption coefficient of a single layer perforated plate system. When the single layer system is extended to the multiple layer ones, however, it is found that an analogy error has been involved in the equivalent electroacoustic parallel circuit approach proposed by previous researchers. The analogy error is demonstrated by the corrected equivalent electroacoustir circuit approach proposed en this study.
Writing requirements in formal notation for a safety-critical system can improve software quality and reduce the errors that may arise later on in the software development life cycle. In this paper, we propose a formal specification approach used to describe the nuclear control system. The approach is based on the existing AECL approach that was the only formal specification technique applied to nuclear control systems in the past. Although the approach is AECL-based, the complex descriptions of certain requirements have been reduced by using different specification techniques. We discuss the differences and how the proposed approach provides not only specification but also verification environment.
