In this study we investigated the manufacturing method for the activated carbon using the char from the pyrolysis of waste tire. The physical activation method using the steam in the fixed-bed quartz reactor was used for preparation of activated carbon. The primary experiment parameters are the activation temperature, activation time, heating rate, and the injection quantity of active agent. From the results of pore distribution of activated carbon, the micropore which was made in $850^{\circ}C$ of activation temperature, $5^{\circ}C$/min of heating rate, and 3 hours of activation time was developed in biggest quantity, and mesopore and macropore were developed in the biggest quantity too. The optimum conditions for producing the activated carbon using the pyrolysis residue were $850^{\circ}C$ of activation temperature, 3 hours of activation time, $5^{\circ}C$/min of heating rate, and 3 g $H_2O/char-g{\cdot}hr$ of active agent through this study. The produced activated carbon in these conditions showed that the potentiality of utilization as activated carbon because the BET specific surface area was $517.6m^2/g$ and total pore volume was $0.648cm^3/g$.
The viscosity coefficient of mucilage of Abelmoschus manihot, MEDIC root decrease under the influence of temperature and the other various physical and chemical factors. The rate of viscosity change of the mucilage have been measured at $5^{\circ}{\sim}50^{\circ}C$ in aqueous state under the various conditions. The results are as follows: 1. Relationship between rate of viscosity change of mucilage and temperature can be represent as Andrade equation. 2. Their activation energies of viscosity change of Abelmaschus maihot, MEDIC root A, B, C, D, E, F and G observed are 11.9, 12.1, 11.4, 12.1, 11.6, 13.8 and 13.2 Kcal/mole, respectively. And other activation parameters arc evaluated. 3. The activation energy of naturally mucilage are smaller than that of sterilized mucilage.
In this study, evaluation tests for cleaning performance of various cleaning agents and selection of optimal ultrasonic cleaning parameters were executed to develop an efficient cleaning process in remanufacturing of laser copy machine. Cleaning performance tests were executed with 8 cleaning agents (A~H) to remove the contaminants of oil-ink, toner particles, and shoe polish. Physical properties and foamability tests were also applied. For 3 types of contaminants, cleaning agent G showed superior cleaning performance compared to agent A which has being used at a remanufacturing of laser copy machine in Korea. With cleaning agents selected in pre-tests, ultrasonic cleaning tests were executed to remove real contaminants on the parts of used digital laser copy machine parts. Cleaning agent G at 28 kHz ultrasonic frequency showed faster cleaning performance compared to agent A and other frequencies. The productivity and economic efficiency in remanufacturing of laser copy machine are expected to increase by adapting agent G and 28 kHz frequency at ultrasonic cleaning process.

The physical properties of well-defined star-shape polystyrenes with high number of arms (6 to 57 arms) in good and theta solvents were studied using synchrotron X-ray scattering. The scattering profiles for multi-armed polystyrenes shown the molecular shape is changed according to increasing of number of arm. From various parameters which were obtained from scattering profiles, the molecular shape was determined more detail. As results, the molecular shape was changed from a fuzzy-ellipsoid for 6-armed PS to a fuzzy-sphere sphere for 57-armed PS according to increasing of number of arm.
Colloidal Silica (CS)/methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and CS/MTMS/epoxysilane (ES) sol solutions were prepared using various synthesizing parameters such as reaction time and types of CS and silane. In order to understand their physical and chemical properties, sol-gel coating films on glass were fabricated. In the case of the CS/MTMS sol, the coating films had high contact angle and more enhanced flat surface than the CS/MTMS/ES sol. In the case of thermal stability, thermal degradation of the CS/MTMS and CS/MTMS/ES coating films did not occur up to $550^{\circ}C$ and $440^{\circ}C$, respectively. The coating films prepared from the CS/MTMS sol were thicker than those of the CS/MTMS/ES sol. In addition, the coating films prepared from single CS were thicker than those of mixed CS. Hardness of the coating films prepared from CS/MTMS increased by adding ES. In case of the mixed CS, the hardness decreased by adding ES.

We conducted laboratory experiments to determine the physical and mechanical properties, and the failure behaviors, of cements for use as grouting material in a $CO_2$-injection borehole. Samples with lour different ratios of water to cement mass (0.4, 1, 2, and 3) were tested. The analyzed properties (porosity, sonic velocity, modulus, and compressive and tensile strengths) varied systematically as a function of the ratio of water to cement (w/c), showing a sharp change between w/c ratios of 0.4 and 1. Triaxial compression tests revealed a clear boundary between brittle and ductile failure depending on the w/c ratio and confining pressure. The present results can be utilized as input parameters for numerical models to understand the initial deformation and failure behavior of grouting cements in a $CO_2$-injection borehole.
The paper describes the comparison between observed and predicted stress-strain characteristics of marine silty clay in Dangjin district. For prediction, the hyperbolic model which is applied the parameters acquiring by physical and triaxial compression test was adopted, and the obtained results were summarized as follows: 1. The Young's modulus were increased with decreasing of moisture contents and increasing of dry density. 2. The most affective factor to hyperbolic model is lateral stress and dry density. and than cohesion and internal friction angle. 3. The comparision between the statistical and hyperbolic values of maximum deviator stress have few accordance. and the statisticals is lower than the hyperbolics. 4. Without. much labor and tiresome procedures, effective computer program was made and applied, but technical procedure for prevents test errors of parameter calculation is importants.
In this study, we propose a joint inversion method, using genetic algorithms, to estimate an S-wave velocity structure for deep sedimentary layers from receiver functions and surface-wave phase velocity observed at several sites. The method takes layer continuity over a target area into consideration by assuming that each layer has uniform physical properties, especially an S-wave velocity, at all the sites in a target area in order to invert datasets acquired at different sites simultaneously. Numerical experiments with synthetic data indicate that the proposed method is effective in reducing uncertainty in deep structure parameters when modelling only surface-wave dispersion data over a limited period range. We then apply the method to receiver functions derived from earthquake records at one site and two datasets of Rayleigh-wave phase velocity obtained from microtremor array surveys performed in central Tokyo, Japan. The estimated subsurface structure is in good agreement with the results of previous seismic refraction surveys and deep borehole data. We also conclude that the proposed method can provide a more accurate and reliable model than individual inversions of either receiver function data only or surface-wave dispersion data only.
Commercial hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are charged by compressing gaseous hydrogen to high pressure and storing it in a storage tank in the vehicle. This process causes the temperature of the gas to rise, to ensure the safety to storage tanks, the temperature is limited. Therefore, a heat transfer model is needed to explain this temperature rise. The heat transfer model includes the convective heat transfer phenomenon, and accurate estimation is required. In this study, the convective heat transfer coefficient in the hydrogen fueling process was calculated and compared using various correlation equations considering physical phenomena. The hydrogen fueling process was classified into the fueling line from the dispenser to the tank inlet and the storage tank in the vehicle, and the convective heat transfer coefficients were estimated according to process parameters such as mass flow rate, diameter, temperature and pressure. As a result, in the case of the inside of the filling line, the convective heat transfer coefficient was about 1000 times larger than that of the inside of the storage tank, and in the case of the outside of the filling line, the convective heat transfer coefficient was about 3 times larger than that of the outside of the storage tank. Finally, as a result of a comprehensive analysis of convective heat transfer coefficients in each process, it was found that outside the storage tank was lowest in the entire hydrogen fueling process, thus dominated the heat transfer phenomenon.

This study was conducted to assess the spray control of flash boiling with mixed fuel in consideration of HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) engine condition. Mixed fuel existing in two phase regions can control the process of mixture formation under low temperature and density by using the spray resulting from flash boiling which is able to induce rapid evaporation of fuel spray as well as the evaporation of high boiling point component. Because HCCI engine injects the fuel early under ambient conditions, it can facilitate the chemical control of ignition combustion and physical control such as breakup and atomization of liquid fuel by flash boiling of mixed fuel which consists of highly ignitable light oil and highly volatile gasoline. This study was conducted by performing video processing after selected composition and molar fraction of the mixed fuel as major parameters and photographed Schlieren image and Mie scattered light corresponding to the flash boiling phenomenon of the fuel spray that was injected inside a constant volume vessel. It was found that flash boiling causes significant changes in the spray structure under relatively low temperature and density. Thus, we analyzed that the flash boiling spray can be used for HCCI combustion by controlling the mixture formation at the early fuel injection timing.
