포트 마스킹이 엔진의 부분부하 성능에 미치는 영향: Part II - 배기 및 연비특성 (Effects of Port Masking on fart Load Performance: Part II - Emission and Fuel Economy)

  • This paper is the second of companion papers, which investigate port-masking effects on emission and fuel economy. Port-masking was applied to commercial SOHC 3-valve engine by inserting masking plates between manifold and port. To induce various conditions of stratification, six types of masking plates were applied. In this paper, main interest is focused on the influence of injection timing on emission and fuel economy. Various injection timing was applied to the six cases, under the stoichiometric and lean-limit air-fuel ratio. Under the stoichiometric condition, an explanation about the reason of the change in emission level due to injection timing change is given. It is observed that NOx emission under the LML condition varies significantly when the injection timing changes.

커먼레일 고압분사 시스템 수치 시뮬레이션 (Simulation of High Pressure Common-rail Fuel Injection System)

  • The high pressure common rail injection system offers a high potential for improving emmisions and performance characteristics in large direct diesel engines. High pressures in the common rail with electronic control allows the fuel quantity and injection timing to be optimized and controlled throughout a wide range of engine rpm and load conditions. In this study, high pressure supply pump, common rail, pipes, solenoid and control chamber, and nozzle were modeled in order to predict needle lift, rate of injection, and total injected fuel quantity. When the common rail pressure is raised up to 13.0 ㎫ and the targer injection duration is 1.0ms, the pressure drop in common rail is about 5.0㎫. The angle of effective pressurization is necessary to be optimized for the minimum pump drive torque and high pressure in common rail depending on the operating conditions. The characteristics of injection were also greatly influenced by the pressures in common rail, the areas of the inlet and exit orifice of the control chamber.

공기 포일 베어링으로 지지되는 초고속 마이크로 터보차져의 구동 안정성 향상에 관한 연구 (Stability Improvement of the Ultra-High Speed Micro Turbocharger Supported by Air Foil Bearings)

  • To improve the operational stability of the 100 Watts class Micro Gas Turbine, the air foil bearing with additional damping material has been investigated. The key of structure is that a viscoelastic material is coated under the top foil. The compliant foil journal bearing and thrust bearing are designed to withstand high load of vibrations at the operational speed 870,000 rpm. Test is executed in room temperature. Rotor has stably operated above 480,000 rpm. It is over 55% of the designed speed 870,000 rpm. Synchronous and subsynchronous vibrations are both well controlled. Vibration amplitude diminished over 50%. With the help of increased damping resulting from the viscoelasticity, the rotor stability of Micro turbocharger has been improved.

  • Recently, many linear motion generators and are rapidly finding applications that ranges from short stroke linear motion vibrators, such as dynamic cone type loud speakers tostirling engine driven linear reciprocatings, alternators, compressors, textile machines etc. In this paper the dynamic performance with load is computed by a general purpose method, which the equation of electromagnetic field, the equation of electric circuit and the equation of motion are coupled together. We fumed out the driving system and the dynamic characteristics of current, voltage and displacement is confirmed experiment.

A Constraint-Based Inference System for Satisfying Design Constraints

  • We propose an efficient algorithm for the purpose of satisfying a wide range of design constraints represented with equality and inequality equations as well as production rules. The algorithm employs simulated-annealing and a production rule inference engine and works on design constraints represented with networks. The algorithm fulfills equality constraints through constraint satisfaction processes like variable elimination while taking into account inequality constraints and inferring production rules. It can also reduce the load of the optimization procedure if necessary. We demonstrate the implementation of the algorithm with the result on machine tool design.

  • The most desirable diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) should have the properties of oxidibing CO and HC effectively at low exhaust gas temperature while minimizing the formation of sulfate at high exhaust gas temperature. Precious metals such as platinum and palladium have been known to be sufficiently active for oxidizing CO and HC and also to have high activity for the oxidation of sulfur dioxide (SO2) to sulfor trioxide (SO3). There is a need to develop a highly selective catalyst which can promote the oxidation of CO and HC efficiently, but, on the other hand, suppress the oxidation of SO2. One approach to solve this problem is to load a base metal such as vanadium in Pt-based catalyst to suppress sulfate formation. In this study, a Pt-V catalyst was prepared by impregnating platinum and vanadium onto a Ti-Si wash coated catalyst in a laboratory reactor by changing the formulations and reaction temperatures.

  • Dynamic simulation techniques are developed to analyze the shift characteristics of vehicle powertraisn with automatic transmission. In this study, the mathematical modeling of powertrain components such as engine , clutch system, planetary gear system and road load , is presented for the simulation. The clutch engagement condition, which determines the degree of freedom for the system, is also proposed .By using a detailed nonlinear model of torque converter, it is possibile to accurately analyze the extremely transient state such as the shift. Dynamo-based experiments are carried out to prove the validity of the proposed simulation techniques. Using the developed simulation program, the effects of the dynamic design variables and the control conditions , focused on the shift, are evaluated to improve the driving comforability.

성층급기 연소현상에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study on Stratified Charge Formation and Combustion Processes)

  • A direct-injection stratified-charge(DISC) engine has been considered as a promising alternative in spite of high unburned hydrocarbon emission levels during light load operation. In this paper investigation is made to characterize formation and combustion processes of stratified mixture charge in a simple constant volume combustion chamber. Both experimental and numerical analyses are performed for fluid and combustion characteristics with 3 different induction types for rich, homogeneous and lean mixture conditions. The commercial code FIRE is applied to the turbulent combustion process in terms of measured and calculated pressure traces and calculated distributions of mean temperature, OH radical and reaction rate. It turns out that the highest combustion rate occurs for the rich state condition at the spark ignition location due to existence of stoichiometric mixture and timing.

  • Recently, the depletion of fossil fuel carbon dioxide emissions due to limitations in the internal combustion engine vehicles is rising concern about electric vehicle. Neighborhood Electric Vehicle(NEV) is maximum speed 60km/h and one day driving distances less than 80km. In this paper, Power Conversion Controller is proposed for Neighborhood Electric Vehicle. To verify the developed Power conversion Controller, Test performed integration test, max load, power density, efficiency. Confirmed that the vehicle can be applied.

  • In this study, the combustion and emission characteristics of waste cooking oil biodiesel was investigated. The fuel was injected from 5 CAD (Crank angle degree) ATDC (After top dead center) to -60 CAD ATDC by 5 CAD with 800 bar and 1600 bar injection pressure. Generally, the hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide and smoke emissions from biodiesel fuel were lower than the emission levels of diesel fuel. However, the emission characteristic of biodiesel got worse than diesel when the fuel was injected earlier than -30 CAD ATDC. $NO_x$ emission from biodeisel was higher than diesel fuel in all experimental conditions.
