  • In 1980's to 1990's the marine propulsion diesel engines have been developed into lower speed and longer stroke for the energy saving(small S.F.O.C.). As these new trends the convetional mechnical-hydraulic governors were not adapted to the new requirements and the digital governors have been adopted in the marine use. The digital governors usually use the control algorithms such as the PID control, optimal control, adaptive control and etc. While the engine has delay time and parameter variations these control algorithms have difficulty in considering the stability and the robustness for the model uncertainty. In this study, the $H_{\infty}$ controller design method are applied to the speed control of the low speed marine diesel engine. By comparison the $H_{\infty}$ control results with the PID control results, the validity of the $H_{\infty}$ controller under the delay time and parameter variations is confirmed.

  • In this study, several sensor parts used to obtain better signal stability are designed, a separate control circuit for the sensor is developed, and the results obtained using this control circuit are analyzed. The capacitances of the whole sensor system are measured using the control circuit connected to an improved flexible printed circuit board and an asymmetric dual sensor coated with a ceramic material. To realize good discrimination for a small change in the measured capacitance as the engine oil deteriorates, a commercial application-specific integrated circuit is installed on the control circuit as a capacitance-to-digital converter. The absolute error of a measured signal is found to be approximately ${\pm}4fF$.

  • It is necessary to understand the combustion process and cycle-by-cycle variation in combustion to improve the engine stability and consequently to improve the fuel economy and exhaust emissions. The pressure related parameters instead of mass fraction burned were compared for the effect of initial combustion pressures on the following combustion and the analysis of cycle-by-cycle variation in combustion for two pen injected SI engines. The correlation between IMEP and pressures at referenced crank angles showed almost the same trends for equivalence ratios, but the different mixture preparations indicated different tendency. The dependency of IMEP on pressure at the referenced crank angles increases as the mixture becomes leaner for both engines. The mixture distribution in the combustion chamber was varied with the coolant temperature and intake valve deactivation due to the evaporation of fuel and air motion. The correlation between pressure related parameters were also compared for the coolant temperatures and air motion.

  • This paper investigated the behaviors of combustion characteristics at part load condition with various intake charge motions induced by the port masking schemes in the CVVT (Continuously Variable valve Timing) engine. Time resolved in-cylinder and exhaust emissions were measured by the fast response HC and NOx analyzers to examine their formation mechanisms and behavior characteristics. As a result, in-cylinder HC decreased with the advanced intake valve timings but HC at the exhaust port increased due to the worse combustion stabilities. However HC reduction could be achieved by the application of the port maskings with a enhancement of the engine stability. NOx also decreased with early intake timings by internal EGR but increased with the charge motion controls which enhance the combustion behavior.

  • One dimensional transient analysis was studied for turbopump-fed liquid propellant rocket engine(LRE) system in starting using AMESim. The effects of timing of gas generator fuel valve opening and gas generator ignition to start-up stability were researched for open cycle type system using LOX/RP-1 to propellants. Result show that the parameters and sequence on start-up should be considered to design optimized turbopump-fed LRE system.

  • Recently, Automobile manufacturers regarding stability, economic environmental-friendly problems by the development of automobile. This reason is increasingly strict environmental regulations to lower fuel consumption and reduce emission. Designing more efficient and low emission control exhaust system results in more efficient Performance, reduced back Pressure and higher convert efficiency. Also to reduce the noise and the vibration of the automobile. According to develop variable type muffler, dual muffler and active intelligence exhaust system unit. Improvement in engine performance and fuel consumption rate, higher conversion efficiency demand information of pressure fraction and heat characteristics. To be able to determine these factor fur we experiment on each case of exhaust system unit. In this study, how back pressure is distributed in flow-through in exhaust system and how to design exhaust system flexibleness, efficiency, lower back pressure and optimal performance. This study furnish basic data for engineers, technicians.

  • Because of its advantages of simple structure, fast response speed, strong anti-pollution ability and good stability, high-speed solenoid valve has been widely used in aeroengine control systems, and some performances of the aeroengine control systems were affected directly by the response speed of high-speed solenoid valve. For some two-position two-way highspeed solenoid cone-valve, the paper discusses the establishment of its mathematical model and analyses its response characteristics by simulation model which is run in simulink of Matlab. Further more, a backstepping and segmentation method is used in the research of response characteristics, and the method is proved to be an accurate, fast and new method to get the influences of parameters on the valve s response characteristics.

  • The mechanics, electronics and manufacturing technology have been developed rapidly. Nowadays vehicle stability becomes more and more important then ABS (Anti-lo7k Brake System), ASR (Anti-Slip Regulator), TCS, (Traction Control System), ESP (Electronic Stability Program), and VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) which actively control the vehicle stability actively has been improved. In this study, instead of automatic transmission, CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) is used because of the continuously gear ratio changes. It can effectively transfer the torque from engine to tire more than other gear transmission. The modeling is simplified assuming that there are no resistance parameters.

  • Lean combustion and exhaust emission characteristics in a ethanol fueled spark-ignited engine according to ethanol-gasoline fuel blending ratio were investigated. The test engine was $1591cm^3$ and 10.5 of compression ratio SI engine with 4 cylinders. In addition, lambda sensor system was connected with universal ECU to control the lambda value which is varied from 1.0 to 1.5. The engine performance and lean combustion characteristics such as brake torque, cylinder pressure and rate of heat release were investigated according to ethanol-gasoline fuel blending ratio. Furthermore, the exhaust emissions such as carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbon (HC), nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) were measured by emission analyzers. The results showed that the brake torque, cylinder pressure and the stability of engine operation were increased as ethanol blending ratio is increased. Brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) was increased in higher ethanol blending ratio while brake specific energy consumption (BSEC) was decreased in higher ethanol blending ratio. The exhaust emissions were decreased as ethanol blending ratio is increased under overall experimental conditions, however, some specific exhaust emission characteristics were mainly influenced by lambda value and ethanol-gasoline fuel blending ratio.

  • Staged combustion cycle engines are well known to have high combustion efficiencies and specific impulse. In this study, design of mixing head part of combustion chamber for 8tonf class staged combustion cycle rocket engine (ES-08) was performed. Structural stability of the mixing head part of the combustion chamber is very important design factor because it is loaded by high temperature and high pressure of fuel and oxidizer as well as by thrust load simultaneously. Uniformity of flow distributions of the propellants to the injectors is also important factor. First, a basic configuration for the ES-08 mixing head part was designed on the basis of the structural design requirements. And then, the structural analyses were performed on the basic configuration as well as some of reinforced configurations. As the structural analyses results, the most stable configuration was selected for the ES-08 mixing head part. In order to examine the uniformity of the flow distributions of the propellants through the manifold of the mixing head, flow analysis was performed based on the selected configuration. The results of the flow analysis showed that the fuel and the oxidizer were uniformly supplied to the injector.
