  • An estimation law of air mass flow rate for high speed engine control is presented. The variables of mass estimation equations are modified to measurable variables which can be obtained during flight, and the effectiveness of each variable to the estimation accuracy is evaluated. The equation is modified to a simplified form, and the uncertainty is evaluated. In addition, reference data for the selection of estimation methods is suggested by considering the sensitivity analysis of sensor error.

  • With the advent of high speed and high output diesel engines, cavitation erosion-corrosion of wet cylinder liners is one of the most prevalent types of failure. The cavitation erosion-corrosion at cylinder liners in water cooled diesel engines is considered to be to the collapse of cavitation bubbles attributed to the cylinder liner vibration. To suppress cavitation damage in cylinder liner, the addition of an inhibitor would be more general method and innovations such as the improvement in the geometric design of the equipment or the selection of suitably resistant construction materials are necessary. In this study, photomicrographs from vibratory facility cavitation specimens and from an eroded liner of a field diesel engine are compared. The behavior of cavitation bubbles grown in fluid is observed under vibration conditions by taking direct photographs with high speed camera. In order to determine the contributions of pure cavitation erosion and of pure corrosion to the total cavitation damage are be studied by following an experimental programme which includes three types of test: (1)pure cavitation erosion test, (2)pure corrosion test, and (1)cavitation erosion-corrosion test. Also cavitation damage under vibratory cavitation is reduced by using flow in tap water.

  • Energy is motive power that makes convenient society. But, our country's energy is depending on most import. Also, energy and environmental issue are important problem in community of nations. The purpose of this study is to analysis the energy consumption and environmental load of EHP and GHP in Medium and small-scaled office building. The annual energy consumption used to cooling and heating by EHP was 10 percent more than GHP. And annual energy cost of EHP was 33 percent more expensive than GHP. But, Compared to the annual $CO_2$ emission, EHP was 6 percent less than GHP. Therefore, equipment selection should be consider environmental load as well as energy consumption and cost.

  • This paper reports on the ACQA(Animated agent for Conversational Question Answering) project conducted at LIMSI. The aim is to design an expressive animated conversational agent(ACA) for conducting research along two main lines: 1/ perceptual experiments(eg perception of expressivity and 3D movements in both audio and visual channels): 2/ design of human-computer interfaces requiring head models at different resolutions and the integration of the talking head in virtual scenes. The target application of this expressive ACA is a real-time question and answer speech based system developed at LIMSI(RITEL). The architecture of the system is based on distributed modules exchanging messages through a network protocol. The main components of the system are: RITEL a question and answer system searching raw text, which is able to produce a text(the answer) and attitudinal information; this attitudinal information is then processed for delivering expressive tags; the text is converted into phoneme, viseme, and prosodic descriptions. Audio speech is generated by the LIMSI selection-concatenation text-to-speech engine. Visual speech is using MPEG4 keypoint-based animation, and is rendered in real-time by Virtual Choreographer (VirChor), a GPU-based 3D engine. Finally, visual and audio speech is played in a 3D audio and visual scene. The project also puts a lot of effort for realistic visual and audio 3D rendering. A new model of phoneme-dependant human radiation patterns is included in the speech synthesis system, so that the ACA can move in the virtual scene with realistic 3D visual and audio rendering.

  • Recently, portable devices which require small area and low power consumption employ applications using 3D graphics such as 3D games and 3D graphical user interfaces. We propose an efficient clipping engine algorithm which is suitable in 3D graphics pipeline. The clipping operation is divided into two steps: one is the selection process in the transformation engine and the other is the pixel clipping process in the scan conversion unit. The clipping operation is possible with addition of simple comparator. The clipping for the Y-axis is achieved in the edge walk stage and that for the X and Z-axis is performed in the span processing. The proposed clipping algorithm reduces the operation cycles and the area of of 3D graphics pipelines. We designed a 3D graphics pipeline with the proposed clipping algorithm using Verilog-HDL and verifies the operation using an FPGA.

  • Gasoline direct injection(GDI) engine has a high thermal efficiency, but it has a problem to increase carbon emissions such as soot and $CO_x$. In this study, the objective is to analyze numerically a problem for adding the hydrogen during the intake stroke so as to reduce the injected amount of gasoline in GDI engines. For selection of the base model, the cylinder pressure of simulation is matched to experimental data. The numerical analysis are carried out by a CFD model with the hydrogen addition of 2%, 3% and 4% on the volume basis. In the case of 3% hydrogen addition, the injected gasoline amount is only changed to match the maximum pressure of simulation to that of the base model for additional study. It is found that the combustion temperature and pressure increase with the hydrogen addition. And NO emission also increases because of the higher combustion temperature. $CO_x$ emissions, however, are reduced due to the decrease of injected gasoline amount. Also, as the injected gasoline amount is reduced for the same hydrogen addition ratio, the gross indicated work is no significant, But NO and $CO_x$ emissions are considerably decreased. On the order hand, $CO_x$ emissions of two cases are more decreased and their gross indicated works are higher obtained than those of the base model.

  • Most of the vibration and noise generating in small boats come from shipboard machinery such as main engine, generator and auxiliary machinery etc. In order to build up the comfortable environment for the crew and to reduce the ambient noise, and provide basic materials for reasoning selection application, the design under allowable vibration & noise conditions and the examination of vibration condition of the new ships, this paper researches the frequency spectrum and order analysis of vibration and noise. The obtained results are summarized as follows : Through comparing the small boat internal noise with the regulation of IMO and DNV, it revealed that the noise level of main engine room accords with the standard, and the noise of other places are beyond the values. In this paper, two boats are analyzed, which are same type, same size and power, but the main engines noise of them is different. In order to search the noise source, the noise of main engine room and relative parts are measured. The third order of measured points is dominant in frequency domain by the order analysis.

  • Conceptual design process is defined for the air-launching rocket by including analysis modules like mission analysis, staging, propulsion analysis, configuration, weight analysis, aerodynamics analysis and trajectory analysis. As a result of the conceptual design, the supersonic(M=1.5) air-launching rocket with hybrid engine for first stage propulsion system is designed. For the best system alternative selection, trade study for the 1st stage engine type and launching speeds using sequential optimization and confirming feasibility of baseline air-launching rocket has been performed. As a result of trade study, all alternatives are competitive in total weight and show only small difference in total weight per unit payload weight. Therefore, it is confirmed that the baseline air-launching rocket which has advantage in system safety especially in supersonic launching is feasible.

  • Numerical simulations and experiments have been carried out to investigate the effect of fuel injection nozzles on the combustion and NOx formation processes in a medium-speed marine diesel engine. Spray visualization experiment was performed in the constant-volume high-pressure chamber to verify the numerical results on the spray characteristics such as spray angle and spray tip penetration. Time-resolved spray behaviors were captured by high-speed digital camera and analyzed to extract the information on the spray parameters. Spray and combustion phenomena were examined numerically using FIRE code. Wave breakup and Zeldovich models were adopted to describe the atomization characteristics and NOx formation processes. Numerical results were verified with experimental data such as cylinder pressure, heat release rate and NOx emission. Finally, the effects of fuel injection nozzles on the engine performance were investigated numerically to find the optimum nozzle parameters such as fuel injection angle, nozzle hole diameter and number of nozzle holes. From this study, the optimum fuel injection nozzle (nozzle hole diameter, 0.32 mm, number of nozzle holes, 8 and fuel injection angle, $148^{\circ}$) was selected to reduce both the fuel consumption and NOx emission. The reason for this selection could be explained from the highest fuel-air mixing in the early phase of injection due to the longest spray tip penetration and the highest heat release rate after $19^{\circ}$ ATDC due to the increased injection duration.

  • This paper proposes architecture of a cognitive radio engine platform and the allowable frequency channel reasoning method that enables acquisition of the allowable channels for the military tactical network environment. The current military tactical wireless communication system is increasing need to secure a supplementary radio frequency to ensure that multiple wireless networks for different military wireless devices coexist, so that tactical wireless communication between the same or different systems can be operated effectively. This paper presents the allowable frequency channel reasoning method based on cognitive radio engine for realizing DSA(Dynamic Spectrum Access) as an optimal available frequency channel. To this end, a case-based allowable frequency channel reasoning method for cognitive radio devices is proposed through modeling of primary user's traffic status and calculation of channel occupancy probability. Also through the simulation of the performance analysis, changing rate of collision probability between the primary users' occupancy channel and the available channel acquisition information that can be used by the cognitive radio device was analysed.
