At the LPG vehicle air intake system, most of dust particles in the air cleaner are removed. However very small particles are not removed and accumulated. The accumulation of carbon in air intake system is going to affect the idle speed control and sensor signal. It also causes engine chattering and transmission troubles of automatic transmission. This is study about cleaning up intake system using cleaning chemical. We can clean up the intake system by spraying cleaning liquid onto intake device when the engine is idling after intake hose is removed from warmed up vehicle. We can obtain the following experimental results by cleaning up ISC, surge tank, intake manifold, intake valves and combustion chamber. According to this results, the stroll valve works correctly and power rate of engine is up to the standard, it is smoothy to control the idling speed when a vehicle pulls up. After cleaning up CO grow down about 0.15%, HC does about 20~100 ppm.
New valve driving system to control for the best volumetric efficiency at each load of an internal combustion engine within one engine cycle has been developed. The system needs to reduce pumping loss that cause by throttle valve during the intake valve is opened. In this system the intake valve is driven by a linear DC electromagnetic actuator which is controlled by personal computer. The result is compared both installed and uninstalled actuator into the cylinder head. By both of experimental and numerical calculation, the responsibility of the valve driving system to the engine speed was examined
The objective of the research was to study the effects a Miller cycle. The engine was dedicated to natural gas usage by modifying pistons, fuel system and ignition systems. The engine was installed on a dynamometer and attached with various sensors and controllers. Intake valve timing, engine speed, load, injection timing and ignition timing are main parameters. Miller Cycle without supercharging can increase brake thermal efficiency 1.08% and reduce brake specific fuel consumption 4.58%. The injection timing must be synchronous with valve timing, speed and load to control the performances, emissions and knock margin. Throughout these tested speeds, original camshaft is recommended to obtain high volumetric efficiency.

This study is to consider that the helical intake port flow and fuel injection system have effects on the characteristics of engine performance and emissions in a turbocharged DI diesel engine of the displacement 9.4L. The swirl ratio for ports was modified by hand-working and measured by impulse torque swirl meter, For the effects on performance and emission, the brake torque, BSFC were measured by engine dynamometer and NOx, smoke were by gas analyzer and smoke meter. As a result of steady flow test, when the valve eccentricity ratio are closed to cylinder wall, the flow coefficient and swirl intensity are increased, And as the swirl is increased, the mean flow coefficient is decreasing, whereas the gulf factor is increasing. Also, through engine test its can be expected to meet performance and emission by the following applied parameter; the swirl ratio is 2.43, injection timing is BTDC $13^{\circ}$CA and compression is 15.5.

This paper describes the experimental investigations on the pressure variations of intake and exhaust manifold and mass flow rate through exhaust turbine of turbocharged 6-cylinder diesel engine. The turbocharger of experimental diesel engine is constructed with the radial ty pe exhaust turbine and blower driven by exhaust gases. The pressure variations were measur ed by pressure transducer at the points such as turbine inlet and outlet, compressor inlet and outlet, and inlet pipe and exhaust manifolds for normal and combined charging engines with the change of engine speed. The experimental results of this study show that the mass flow rate of exhaust turbine and the variations of pressure in intake and exhaust manifold are all increased with the increase of engine speed.
The combination of physical models of an advanced engine control system was proposed to obtain sophisticated combustion control in ultra-lean combustion, including homogeneous compression-ignition and activated radical combustion with a light load and in stoichiometric mixture combustion with a full load. Physical models of intake, combustion and engine thermodynamics were incorporated, in which the effects of residual gas from prior cycles on intake air mass and combustion were taken into consideration. The combined control of compression ignition at a light load and sparit ignition at full load for a high compession ratio engine was investigated using simulations. The control strategies of the variable valve timing and the intake pressure were clarified to keep auto-ignition at a light load and prevent knock at a full load.
The goals of this research are to understand the $NO_x$ emission in direct injected diesel engine with premixed hydrogen fuel. Hydrogen fuel was supplied into the test engine through the intake pipe. Amount of hydrogen-supplemented fuel was 70 percent basis heating value of the total fuel. The effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on $NO_x$ emission were studied. The exhaust gas was recirculated to the intake manifold and the amount of exhaust gas was controlled by the valve. The major conclusions of this work include: (i) the tested engine was run without backfire under 70 percent hydrogen fuel supplemented; (ii) the peak cylinder pressure was decreased with increase of EGR ratio due to the decrease of oxygen concentration in an intake pipe; and (iii) $NO_x$ emission was decreased by 77% with 30% EGR ratio. Therefore, it may be concluded that EGR is effective method to lower $NO_x$ emission in hydrogen fueled diesel engine.
Aircraft propulsion systems often use diffusing S-duct to convey air flow from the wing or fuselage intake to the engine compressor, Well designed S-duct should incur minimal total pressure losses and deliver nearly uniform flow with small transverse velocity components at the engine compressor entrance. Reduced total pressure recovery lowers propulsion efficiency and nonuniform flow conditions at the engine face lower engine stall limits. In this study, S-duct which has maximum total pressure recovery and nearly uniform flow profiles at the compressure intake should be found using design optimization methods with 3-dimensional Wavier-Stokes analyses.
A comparative evaluation of engine cleanliness was performed on the transport gasoline blended with bio- alcohols, and this study was considered to achieve the aim of greenhouse gas reduction in Korea. In particular, the fuel blended with bio-ethanol and bio-butanol showed the best engine cleaning performance both on combustion chamber deposits and intake valve deposits. The deposit control gasoline additive was effective to remove intake valve deposits. In contrast, the amount of combustion chamber deposits were tend to increase even though fuels blended with bio-alcohols were used. In overall, fuels blended with bio-alcohols, compared to fossil fuels, still showed outstanding performance in terms of engine cleanliness.
In a gasoline engine with port injection system, the fuel behavior in the intake port has significant influence on the HC emission and the precise A/F control. That is to say, it is inevitable that the injection direction and behavior of fuel injected in the intake port have an effect on the generation of unburned HC within a cylinder. In this paper, we visualized fuel behavior in the intake port using micro CCD camera synchronized with the stroboscope and investigated the fuel-film characteristics formed at the wall of intake port by processing image captured with VCR in the transparent intake port made of acryl. Using these measuring methods, it was found that fuel behavior and the formation of fuel-film in the intake port could be evaluated qualitatively. And results obtained by these methods show that 2-spray injector minimizes the fuel-film formed in the intake port of a DOHC gasoline engine.
