Purpose: Ground source heat pump system has been attracted in the horticulture industry for the reduction of energy costs and the increasing of farm income. Even though it has higher initial costs, if it uses in combination with heat storage, it is able to reduce the initial costs and operate efficiently. In order to have significant effect of heat storage type ground source heat pump system, it is required to design the capacity considering various conditions such as energy load pattern and operating schedule. Method: In this study, we have designed heat storage type ground source heat pump system in 5 cases by the operating schedule, and examined the system to find the most economic and having superb performance regarding the system COP(Coefficient of Performance) and energy consumption, using dynamic energy simulation, TRNSYS 17. Result: Conventional ground source heat pump system has lower energy consumption than heat storage type, but following the result of LCC(Life Cycle Cost) analysis, the heat storage type was more economic due to the initial costs. In addition, it has the most efficient performance and energy costs in the case of the smallest heat storage time.
This paper describes a method for size optimization of the major design variables for solar water heating systems at the stage of concept design. The widely used RETScreen simulation tool was used for optimization. Currently, the RETScreen tool itself does not provide a function for optimization of the design parameters. In this study, an optimizer was combined with the software. A comparative study was performed to evaluate the RETScreen-based approach with the case study of a solar heating system in an office building. The optimized results using the RETScreen model were compared to previously published results with the TRNSYS model. The objective function of the optimization is the life-cycle cost of the system. The optimized design results from the RETScreen model showed good agreement with the optimized TRNSYS results for the solar collector area and storage volume, but presented a slight difference for the collector slope angle in terms of the converged direction of the solutions. The energy cost, life-cycle cost, and thermal performance regarding collector efficiency, system efficiency, and solar fraction were compared as well, and the RETScreen model showed good agreement with the TRNSYS model for the conditions of the base case and optimized design.

A design study was performed to improve the limit aseismic performance (LSP) of a primary heat transport system (PHTS) pump. This pump is part of the primary equipment of a prototype generation IV sodium-cooled fast reactor (PGSFR). The LSP is the maximum allowable seismic load that still ensures structural integrity. To calculate the LSP of the PHTS pump, a structural analysis model of the pump was developed and its dynamic characteristics were obtained by modal analysis. The floor response spectrum (FRS) initiated from a safety shutdown earthquake (SSE), 0.3 g, was applied to the support points of the PHTS pump, and then the seismic induced stresses were calculated. The structural integrity was evaluated according to the ASME code, and the LSP of the PHTS pump was calculated from the evaluation results. Based on the results of the modal analysis and LSP of the PHTS pump, design parameters affecting the LSP were selected. Then, ways to improve the LSP were proposed from sensitivity analysis of the selected design variables.
In the nuclear industry, mechanical engineers spend a significant portion of their time designing equipment such as manipulators, bogies, mechanical grippers, and so on. Some customized designs can be considered as standard mechanical equipment in this area, although it is not unusual to find that an existing design cannot simply be copied from one project to another. Varied performance requirements can dictate that redesign, often quite extensive redesign, is required. However, if something similar has been done before, engineers could use that as a starting point for the new project. In this regard, this study presents several guidelines inspired by previous design knowledge for similar development cases. Moreover, this study presents more detailed suggestions such as design guidelines for an argon-based hot cell atmosphere and design experience for a large-scale practical hot cell facility. Design considerations and case studies dealt with in this study are dedicated to teleoperation manipulators that are used at a large-scale argon cell facility for pyroprocess integrated inactive demonstration (PRIDE), at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. In particular, for case studies to support the suggested recommendations, a fabricated telemanipulator system for PRIDE is introduced, and several kinds of experimental results associated with it are presented.
To obtain the dynamic characteristics of reactor secondary circuit under transient conditions, the system analysis program was developed in this study, where dynamic models of secondary circuit were established. The heat transfer process and the mechanical energy transfer process are modularized. Models of main equipment were built, including main turbine, condenser, steam pipe and feedwater system. The established models were verified by design value. The simulation of the secondary circuit system was conducted based on the verified models. The system response and characteristics were investigated based on the parameter transients under emergency shutdown and overload. Various operating conditions like turbine emergency shutdown and overspeed, condenser high water level, ejector failures were studied. The secondary circuit system ensures sufficient design margin to withstand the pressure and flow fluctuations. The adjustment of exhaust valve group could maintain the system pressure within a safe range, at the expense of steam quality. The condenser could rapidly take out most heat to avoid overpressure.
The purpose of this study is intended to improve the efficiency of energy harvesting through the optimal design of the PZT system and the electrical system. To improve the efficiency of energy harvesting, it is necessary to increase the output voltage generated from the PZT. In this study, first the mounting position and shape of the PZT which is attached to the cantilever were optimized. Second electric circuit was optimized by using a series connection of a circuit and the electrical resonance frequency. As a result, we improve the output voltage about 5V.
The Pressurizer Level Control System (PLCS) logic for YGN 5&6 was developed to incorporate the design changes on the Chemical and Volume Control System (CVCS). The YGN 5&6 CVCS uses the centrifugal charging pumps and letdown orifices replacing the positive displacement pumps and letdown control valves in the YGN 3&4 and UCN 3&4. The purpose of this study is to develop new PLCS as well as validate newly developed control logic and its implementation method in the simulation computer code. The analysis results show that the new PLCS has adequate ability to control the pressurizer level in response to the design bases events, and the simulation computer code is useful for YGN 5&6 NSSS design code.
Basic design of 3 MWth chemical looping combustion system for LNG combustion and steam generation was conducted based on the mass and energy balance and the previous reactivity test results of oxygen carrier particles. Process configuration including fast fluidized bed (air reactor), loop seal and bubbling fluidized bed (fuel reactor) was confirmed and their dimensions were determined by mass balance. Then, the external fluidized bed heat exchanger (FBHE) was adopted based on the energy balance to extract heat from the system. The optimum reactor design and operating condition was confirmed with sensitivity analysis by modifying system configuration based on the mass and energy balance.

The KAERI Spent Fuel Remote Technology Development (SFRTD) Department is developing the remote maintenance and repair equipment, which is used in a hot cell in an intense radiation field, as part of a project to develop the Advanced spent fuel Conditioning Process (ACP). Although several mechanical master-slave manipulators (MSMs) is mounted on the hot cell wall, their reach will be limited and cannot access areas for all the ACP equipment maintenance. A Bridge Transported ServoManipulator (BTSM) has been designed to overcome the limitation of access areas that is a drawback of MSMs for the ACP equipment maintenance. The BTSM system consists of four components: a transporter with telescoping tubeset, a slave manipulator, a master manipulator, and a remote control system. The BTSM system has been designed by Solid Edge that is a 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software, except for the remote control system. The master manipulator and the slave manipulator are kinematically similar in design, except for the handle and the tong, respectively. The manipulators have 6 degrees of freedom (DOF) plus the jaws motion. The transporter has traveling, traverse, and hoisting motion to position the slave manipulator.
