Capturing the carbon dioxide emitted from coal-fired power plants will be necessary if targeted reduction in carbon emissions is to be achieved. Modelling and simulation are the base for optimal operation and control in thermal power plant and also play an important role in energy savings. This study aims to analyze the performance of supercritical coal fired power plant through steady and dynamic simulation using a commercial software gCCS. A whole power plant has been modeled and validated with design data of 500 MWe power plant, base and part load operations of the plant were also evaluated, consequently it had been proven that the simulated result had a good agreement with actual operating data. In addition, the effect of co-firng on the plant efficiency and flue gases were investigated using gCCS simulator.
The MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) techniques are employed in photovoltaic (PV) systems to maximize the PV array output power which depends on solar irradiance and temperature. The dynamic MPPT performance under varying irradiance conditions affects the impact on overall PV system performance. This paper presents the improved MPPT algorithm by the simulation comparison with other algorithms. The simulation models are made by the Matlab & Simulink. The result of simulation, the dynamic MPPT efficiency of proposed algorithm is higher than the other algorithms.

The load-following operation of small modular reactors (SMRs) requires accurate prediction of transient behaviors that can occur in the balance of plants (BOP) and the nuclear steam supply system (NSSS). However, 1-D thermal-hydraulics analysis codes developed for safety and performance analysis have conventionally excluded the BOP from the simulation by assuming ideal boundary conditions for the main steam and feed water (MS/FW) systems, i.e., an open loop. In this study, we introduced a lumped model of BOP fluid system and coupled it with NSSS without any ideal boundary conditions, i.e., in a closed loop. Various methods for coupling boundary conditions at MS/FW were tested to validate their combination in terms of minimizing numerical instability, which mainly arises from the coupled boundaries. The method exhibiting the best performance was selected and applied to a transient simulation of an integrated NSSS and BOP system of a SMART. For a transient event with core power change of 100-20-100%, the simulation exhibited numerical stability throughout the system without any significant perturbation of thermal-hydraulic parameters. Thus, the introduced boundary-condition coupling method and BOP fluid system model can expectedly be employed for the transient simulation and performance analysis of SMRs requiring daily load-following operations.
The purpose of the current study is to examine the aerodynamic characteristics of hypersonic waverider vehicle by simulation and experiment. The simulation was accomplished using NS aerodynamic codes developed in Northwestern Polytechncal University. The objective of experiment are twofold. The first is to examine the accuracy of simulation. The second is to examine the effects of shockwave an d boundary layer interactions on aero dynamic performance hypersonic configurations.
UTAC(unglazed transpired air collector) system has unique advantage for space heating and tempering ventilation air over the conventional collector system such as flat plate and vacuum collector. UTAC can improve radiative and convective loss due to nonglazed component and enhanced plate surface configuration. and heating energy and its equivalent green house emission performance can be improved from the use of this like collector in building application. The Option D Calibration simulation approach of IPMVP(International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol) in ESCO businesses has been recommended to use of the calibrated computer modules like these Energy-10. DOE2.1E and TRNSYS(transient system simulation). This study is to develop subroutine type-203 of TRNSYS15.2 program and appraise thermal performance of UTAC. With newely addeded subroutine type-203. 1) Thermal performance of unglazed transpired collector could be possible based on dimensionless variables such as efficiency and heat exchanger effectiveness. and 2) Assessement of energy consists of solar useful and insulation saving for UTAC could be possible.
In this paper, a fundamental study for developing and introducing a new assessment method of the 'Energy Performance' in G-SEED that uses dynamic building energy simulations was conducted by comparing and analyzing the corresponding issues of domestic and foreign green building certification systems. The most significant part of the new assessment method to be developed was a development of a modeling guideline for a reference building using dynamic building energy simulations. In this paper, the composition and detailed contents of the guideline was created to comply with domestic energy codes. In addition, one of the most influential part of the result in the simulations, the 24-hour building operation schedule for a reference building, was created considering the equity with the ECO2 program that is the evaluation tool of one of the current assessment methods in the "Energy Performance". In order to improve the completeness of this guideline, it is necessary to continue the process of supplementation in the future, however, this paper is expected to be of great significance as the beginning of the research.
Energy simulation tools can provide information on the amount of heat transfer through building envelope components, which are considered the main sources of heat loss in buildings. Therefore, it is important to improve the quality of outputs from energy simulation tools and also the process of obtaining them. In this paper, a new Building Energy Performance Assessment Tool (BEPAT) is introduced, which provides users with granular data related to heat transfer through every single wall, window, door, roof, and floor in a building and automatically saves all the related data in text files. This information can be used to identify the envelope components for thermal improvement through energy retrofit or during the design phase. The generated data can also be adopted in the design of energy smart homes, building design tools, and energy retrofit tools as a supplementary dataset. BEPAT is developed by modifying EnergyPlus source code as the energy simulation engine using C++, which only requires Input Data File (IDF) and weather file to perform the energy simulation and automatically provide detailed output. To validate the BEPAT results, a computer model is developed in Revit for use in BEPAT. Validating BEPAT's output with EnergyPlus "advanced output" shows a difference of less than 2% and thus establishing the capability of this tool to facilitate the provision of detailed output on the quantity of heat transfer through walls, fenestrations, roofs, and floors.
Heat pump drying has a great potential for energy saving due to its high energy efficiency in comparison with conventional air drying. In the present study, the performance simulation for the basic design of a heat pump dryer has been carried out. The simulation includes one-stage heat pump cycle, simple drying process using the drying efficiency. As an example, the heat pump cycle with Refrigerant 134a has been investigated. For the operating conditions such as the average temperature of the condenser, the heat rate released in the condenser, the flow rate of drying air, and drying efficiency, the simulation has been carried out to figure out the performance of the dryer. The parameters considered in the design of the dryer are COP, MER, SMER, the rate of dehumidification, the temperature and humidity of drying air and those parameters are compared for different conditions after carrying out the simulation.
The purpose of this work is to investigate main factors to design a solid-state hydrogen stroage system with magnesium hydride with 10 wt% graphite using numerical simulation tools. The heat transfer characteristic of this material was measured in order to perform the highly reliable simulation for this system. Based on the measured effective thermal conductivity, a transient heat and mass transfer simulation revealed that the total performance of hydrogen storage system is prone to depend on heat and mass transfer behaviors of hydrogen storage medium instead of its inherent kinetic rate for hydrogen adsorption. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the thermodynamic aspect between equlibrium presssure and temperature is one of key factor to design the hydrogen storage system with high performance using magnesium hydride.
It is very important to improve the insulation performance of curtain wall anchoring unit since it is composed of materials with high thermal conductivity, such as aluminium, steel and so on. This study aims to evaluate the heating energy performance and economical efficiency of various alternatives which are different in position and material of insulation. As results, alternative of inserting the urethane washer & pad and coating the anchoring unit with urethane foam can improve the heating energy performance and L.C.C(Life Cycle Cost) by 6.33% and 0.95%, respectively, as compared with the existing case.
