The optimum damping and tuning frequency ratio of the tuned mass damper-inerter (TMDI) for the base-isolated structure is obtained using the numerical searching technique under stationary white-noise and filtered white-noise earthquake excitation. The minimization of the isolated structure's mean-square relative displacement and absolute acceleration, as well as the maximization of the energy dissipation index, were chosen as the criteria for optimality. Using a curve-fitting technique, explicit formulae for TMDI damping and tuning frequency for white-noise excitation are then derived. The proposed empirical expressions for TMDI parameters are found to have a negligible error, making them useful for the effective design of base-isolated structures. The effectiveness of TMDI and its optimum parameters are influenced by the soil condition and isolation frequency, according to the comparison made of the optimized parameters and response with different soil profiles. The effectiveness of an optimally designed TMDI in controlling the displacement and acceleration response of the flexible isolated structure under real and pulse-type earthquakes is also observed and found to be increased as the inertance mass ratio increases.

Longitudinal quantification of brain changes due to development, aging or disease plays an important role in the filed of personalized-medicine applications. However, due to the temporal variability in shape and different imaging equipment and parameters, estimating anatomical changes in longitudinal studies is significantly challenging. In this paper, a longitudinal Magnetic Resonance(MR) brain image segmentation algorithm proposed by combining intensity information and anisotropic smoothness term which contain a spatial smoothness constraint and longitudinal consistent constraint into a variational framework. The minimization of the proposed energy functional is strictly and effectively derived from a fast optimization algorithm. A large number of experimental results show that the proposed method can guarantee segmentation accuracy and longitudinal consistency in both simulated and real longitudinal MR brain images for analysis of anatomical changes over time.
This paper proposes a method that can generate a smooth trajectory from the discontinuous trajectory in kinematic, dynamic, and task-space trajectory constraints. The problem is defined as the minimization of kinetic energy, and then the simulation is performed by using the MATLAB. Kinematic and inverse kinematic equations are derived for the simulation of the 6-DOF robotic arm. The simulation results showed that the trajectory of each joint is generated while satisfying the constraints without any discontinuity. There are small errors in the Cartesian trajectory, but unnecessary deceleration and acceleration can be eliminated. In addition, it is possible to quickly switch between the robotic tasks by applying the proposed method.
It is essential to decrease energy consumption and excess sludge to economically operate sewage treatment plant. This becomes more important along with a ban on sea dumping and exhaustion of resource. Therefore, many researchers have been study on energy consumption reduction and strategies for minimization of excess sludge production from the activated sludge process. The aeration cost account for a high proportion of maintenance cost because sufficient air is necessary to keep nitrifying bacteria activity of which the oxygen affinity is inferior to that of heterotrophic bacteria. Also, additional costs are incurred to stabilize excess sludge and decrease the volume of sludge. There were anoxic, aerobic, membrane, deairation and concentration zone in this MBR process. Continuous aeration was provided to prevent membrane fouling in membrane zone and intermittent aeration was provided in aerobic zone through ammonia sensor. So, there was the minimum oxygen to remove $NH_4-N$ below limited quantity that could be eliminated in membrane zone. As the result of this control, energy consumption of aeration system declined by between 10.4 % and 19.1 %. Besides, we could maintain high MLSS concentration in concentration zone and this induced the microorganisms to be in starved condition. Consequentially, the amount of excess sludge decrease by about 15 %.
Transcranial magnetic stimulation devices has been used mainly for diagnostic purposes by measuring the functions of the nervous system rather than for treatment purposes, and has a problem of considerable energy fluctuations per repeated pulse. The majority of strokes are caused by ischemia and result in brain tissue damage, leading to problems of the central nervous system including hemiparesis, dysfunction of language and consciousness, and dysfunction of perception. Control is difficult and the size is large due to the difficulty of digitalizing the energy stored in a capacitor, and there are many heavy devices. In addition, there are many constraints when it is used for a range of purposes such as head and neck diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of nerve palsy, muscle strengthening, treatment of urinary incontinence etc. Output stabilization and minimization of the energy variation rate are required as the level of the transcranial magnetic stimulation device is dramatically improved and the demand for therapeutic purposes increases. This study developed a compact, low cost transcranial magnetic stimulation device with minimal energy variation of a high repeated pulse and output stabilization using a real time capacitor charge discharge voltage. Ischemia was induced in male SD rats by closing off the common carotid artery for 5 minutes, after which the blood was re-perfused. In the cerebrum, the number of PARP reactive cells after 24 hours significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in the TMS group compared to the GI group. As a result, TMS showed the greatest effect on necrosis-related PARP immuno-reactive cells 24 hours after ischemia, indicating necrosis inhibition, blocking of neural cell death, and protection of neural cells.
This paper presents a method to segment the object of interest from a set of multi-view images with minimal user interaction. Specifically, after the user segments an initial image, we first estimate the transformations between foreground and background of the segmented image and the neighboring image, respectively. From these transformations, we obtain regions in the neighboring image that respectively correspond to the foreground and the background of the segmented image. We are then able to segment the neighboring image based on these regions, and iterate this process to segment the whole image set. Transformation of foregrounds are estimated by feature-based registration with free-form deformation, while transformation of backgrounds are estimated by homography constrained to affine transformation. Here, both are based on correspondence point pairs. Segmentation is done by estimating pixel color distributions and defining a shape prior based on the obtained foreground and background regions and applying them to a Markov random field (MRF) energy minimization framework for image segmentation. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This study was performed on the removal of Cs, one of the main high- radioactive nuclides contained in the high-radioactive seawater waste (HSW), by adsorption with IE911 (crystalline silicotitanate type). For the effective removal of Cs and the minimization of secondary solid waste generation, adsorption of Cs by IE911 (hereafter denoted as IE911-Cs) was effective to carry out in the m/V (ratio of absorbent weight to solution volume) ratio of 2.5 g/L, and the adsorption time of 1 hour. In these conditions, Cs and Sr were adsorbed about 99% and less than 5%, respectively. IE911-Cs could be also expressed as a Langmuir isotherm and a pseudo-second order rate equation. The adsorption rate constants (k2) were decreased with increasing initial Cs concentrations and particle sizes, and increased with increasing ratios of m/V, solution temperatures and agitation speeds. The activation energy of IE911-Cs was about 79.9 kJ/mol. It was suggested that IE911-Cs was dominated by a chemical adsorption having a strong bonding form. From the negative values of Gibbs free energy and enthalpy, it was indicated that the reaction of IE911-Cs was a forward, exothermic and relatively active at lower temperatures. Additionally, the negative entropy values were seen that the adsorbed Cs was evenly distributed on the IE911.

In this paper, a depth estimate method is proposed using GPU(Graphics Processing Unit) in monocular image. a monocular image is a 2D image with missing 3D depth information due to the camera projection and we used a monocular cue to recover the lost depth information by the projection present. The proposed algorithm uses an energy function which takes a variety of cues to create a more generalized and reliable depth map. But, a processing time is late because energy function is defined from the various monocular cues. Therefore, we propose a depth estimate method using GPGPU(General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit). The objective effectiveness of the algorithm is shown using PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio), a processing time is decrease by 61.22%.

In order to extract the contour of interesting object in the image, Kass suggested the Active Contour Model called "Snakes". Snakes is a model which defines the contour of image energy. It also can find the contour of object by minimizing these energy functions. The speed of this model is slow and this model is sensitive of initialization. In order to improve these problems, Gunn extracted the accurate contour by using two initialization. and operated to less sensitive of initialization. This method could extract more accurate contour than the existing method, but it had no effect in the speed and it was sensitive of noise. This paper applied to the Energy Minimization Algorithm about only the pixel within the window applying the window of 8$\times$8 size at each contour point consisting Snakes in order to solve these problems. The method offered in this paper is applied to extract the contour of original image and cup image added to gaussian noise. By tracking the face using this offered method, it is applied to virtual reality and motion tracking. tracking.
This paper proposes a method of moving object detection in crowded scene using clustered trajectory. Unlike previous appearance based approaches, the proposed method employes motion information only to isolate moving objects. In the proposed method, feature points are extracted from input frames first and then feature tracking is followed to create feature trajectories. Based on an assumption that feature points originated from the same objects shows similar motion as the object moves, the proposed method detects moving objects by clustering trajectories of similar motions. For this purpose an energy function based on spatial proximity, motion coherence, and temporal continuity is defined to measure the similarity between two trajectories and the clustering is achieved by minimizing the energy function in CRFs (conditional random fields). Compared to previous methods, which are unable to separate falsely merged trajectories during the clustering process, the proposed method is able to rearrange the falsely merged trajectories during iteration because the clustering is solved my energy minimization in CRFs. Experiment results with three different crowded scenes show about 94% detection rate with 7% false alarm rate.
