Load Dispatching Control of Multiple-Parallel-Converters Rectifier to Maximize Conversion Efficiency

  • In the context of increasing electric energy consumption in a data center, energy efficiency improvement is strongly emphasized. In a data center, electric energy is largely consumed by DC power supply system, which is based on a rectifier composed by multiple parallel converters. Therefore, rectifier efficiency must be improved for minimizing loss of DC power supply system. Rectifier efficiency can be modulated by load allocation to converters because converter efficiency depends on input AC power. In this paper, we propose a new control method to maximize rectifier efficiency. The method can control load allocation to converters by introducing active power converter control scheme and start-and-stop of converters. In order to illustrate optimal load allocations in a rectifier, a maximization problem of rectifier efficiency is formulated as a nonlinear optimization one. The problem is solved by Lagrangian relaxation method and the computation results provide the validity of proposed method.

  • Islanding phenomenon is undesirable because it lead to a safety hazard to utility service personnel and may cause damage to power generation and power supply facilities as a result of unsynchronized reclosure. In order to prevent this phenomenon, various anti-islanding methods have been studied. Even though the slip mode frequency shift (SMS) method has been regarded as a highly effective anti-islanding method, the analytical design method of that was not cleared. This paper proposes a modeling of the SMS method using non-detection zone (NDZ) and evaluation of the method according to the test conditions of IEEE Std. 929-2000. The SMS method is derived analytically through the modeling and verified visually by simulation and experiment.

  • A breaking layer was introduced to conventional decal transfer method in membrane electrolyte assembly fabrication for high catalyst transfer ratio. In this study, the modified decal transfer method with high catalyst transfer ratio was introduced and its performance is studied. The structural features of electrodes made by decal method were investigated using scanning electron microscopy and current-voltage polarization measurement.

  • Background: Positional release muscle energy technique (PRMET) is a method joined positional release technique and muscle energy technique. Methods: Subjects those who have low back pain from the acute to chronic phase, were applied PRMET method on psoas major muscle and measured the changes in pain and disfunction. Results: PRMET method is effective for reducing pain and disfunction on psoas major muscle. Conclusions: The advantages of PRMET method are minimized patient inconvenience, shortening of treatment time and effective for improvement. In the future research, methods need to be improved so that this can be applied to other muscles.

Second order effects of external prestress on frequencies of simply supported beam by energy method

  • Based on the energy method considering the second order effects, the natural frequencies of externally prestressed simply supported beam and the compression softening effect of external prestress force were analyzed. It is concluded that the compression softening effect depends on the loss of external tendon eccentricity. As the number of deviators increases from zero to a large number, the compression softening effect of external prestress force decreases from the effect of axial compression to almost zero, which is consistent with the conclusion mathematically rigorously proven. The frequencies calculated by the energy method conform well to the frequencies by FEM which can simulate the frictionless slide between the external tendon and deviator, the accuracy of the energy method is validated. The calculation results show that the compression softening effect of external prestress force is negligible for the beam with 2 or more deviators due to slight loss of external tendon eccentricity. As the eccentricity and area of tendon increase, the first natural frequency of the simply supported beams noticeably increases, however the effect of the external tendon on other frequencies is negligible.

Determination of Polonium Nuclides in a Water Sample with Solvent Extraction Method

  • A method is described for the determination of the Po nuclides in a water sample. After the Po nuclides were purified from interfering elements in a water sample using a manganese dioxide precipitation followed by a solvent extraction method, the Po nuclides were deposited onto the silver plate. A large volume of the water sample was effectively pretreated with manganese dioxide precipitation method. To determine the optimum conditions for plating Po, the effects of the pH, volume, temperature and time on the Po deposition were investigated in hydrochloric acid solution. The investigated determination method of Po nuclides with solvent extraction was applied to a tap water sample.

  • Coupling beams subject to cyclic loads exhibit different behavioral characteristics and energy dissipation capacity varying with re-bar layouts. In the present study, nonlinear analysis method was developed using analogous truss model. Using the numerical method, parametric studies were performed to investigate the behavioral characteristics and the energy dissipation mechanism of coupling beams with various re-bar layouts subject to cyclic loading. Based on the investigation, a simple and practical method for evaluating the energy dissipation capacity of coupling beams was developed and verified by experiments. The proposed method accurately predicted the dissipated energy during cyclic loading addressing design parameters such as re-bar layouts, re-bar ratio, and deformation. The proposed method can be easily applied to nonlinear static and dynamic methods for seismic analysis and design.

  • In a situation that building energy consumption is increasing worldwide, the research utilizing BIM technology to analyze building energy has been actively conducted. On the other hand, data input method of the building energy analysis has been still manually entered. This paper proposed a improved input method of required information for building energy analysis using the ECO2-OD program. As a result, although some required information of BIM based design software could be almost entered when it comes to general information and architectural sector, it has a problem to be handled in HVAC sector. Therefore, in the both of general and architectural sectors, the BIM information from the BIM-based design software could be directly used to automatically and systematically input the information. Future research should be studied the algorism and method in connection with data exchange to utilize input method of ECO2-OD from BIM data.
