The magnetic domain-refining techniques such as ball scratching, laser irradiation and plasma have been developed to reduce the domain wall spacing and thus iron losses in Fe-3%Si grain-oriented silicon steels. In view point of magnetic properties, it was supposed that the locally residual stresses change the magnetoelastic energy of the material and thus the spacing between $180^{\circ}$ domain walls decreases in order to reduce the magnetostatic energy. The effect of laser irradiation on iron loss and magnetostriction reduction for Fe-3%Si grain-oriented steel were investigated. Since the local tensile stresses were induced at the surface of Fe-3%Si steel by the laser irradiation, the minimum iron loss caused by reducing eddy current loss was obtained in spiete of the decrease of permeability by hindering eddy current loss was obtained in spite of the decrease of permeability by hindering the domain wall movement around the induced stress field. Furthermore, the laser treated 3%Si steel has lower magnetostriction as compared to non laser-treated steel and is less sensitive to applying pre-stresses due to the volume reduction of $90^{\circ}$ domain in materials.

A new compact, low-energy electron beam irradiator has been developed. The core-loss of silicon steels can be reduced by magnetic-domain refinement method. The irradiator was developed for the application of core-loss reduction using the method. The beam energy of the irradiator can be varied from 35 to 80 keV and the maximum current is 3mA. The irradiation area is designed to be $30\times30mm2$ now and will be upgraded to $30\times150mm2$ using a scanning magnet and scanning cone. The electron beam generated from 3 mm diameter LaB6 is extracted to the air for the irradiation of the silicon steels in the air. A special irradiation port was developed for this low-energy irradiator. A havar foil with $4.08{\mu}m$ thickness were used for the window and a cold air-cooling system keeps the foil structure by removing heat at the window. The irradiator system and its operation characteristics will be discussed.
In this paper, a novel loss minimization of an induction generator in wind energy generation systems is presented. The proposed algorithm is based on the flux level reduction, for which the generator d-axis current reference is estimated using support vector regression (SVR). Wind speed is employed as an input of the SVR and the samples of the generator d-axis current reference are used as output to train the SVR algorithm off-line. Data samples for wind speed and d-axis current are collected for the training process, which plots a relation of input and output. The predicted off-line function and the instantaneous wind speed are then used to determine the d-axis current reference. It is shown that the effect of loss minimization is more significant at low wind speed and the loss reduction is about to 40% at 4[m/s] wind speed. The validity of the proposed scheme has been verified by experimental results.
Every site has a different given geometrical and climatic condition, which influenced not only the lifestyle of the humanbeings but also the regional architecture. For example, on a cold region, the reduction of the energy loss is necessary, like an igloo, which has a littlest energy loss at hemisphere. Or on a warm region, the house must be protected thermally from the overheating at the sunshining. like a huge shading. An architectural interpretation in the (extreme) moderate climate, like Korea, has always tried to satisfy the both opposite demands simultaneously. A facade, which divides out- and inside, has an ideal position to lead the regulated regional climatic conditions into the room. The Double Facade System(DFS) is well known as an innovative solution in the european countries, like Germany. It provides an reasonable alternative, which can achieve these goals at the same time. A Double Facade System provides an effective sunshade, which means a cooling energy reduction at the warm season. In addition, it enables a natural ventilation at the cold season with the preheating at the system as well as spring and autumn. An ordinary Single Facade System with a inside or outside sun blind provides a solution just for a specified season, like a summer or winter. But the Double Facade System can deal with the various climatic conditions in the moderate climate.
The present paper presented and applied an exergy analysis method to evaluate the magnitudes and the locations of exergy losses in the conventional desuperheating and depressurizing process of high pressure and temperature steam delivery system. In addition, for the reduction of exergy losses occurred in conventional process, the present study proposed new alternative processes in which the pressure reducing valve and the desuperheater of conventional process are substituted with steam turbine and heat exchanger, and their effects on exergy loss reduction and exergy efficiency improvement are theoretically investigated and compared. From the present analysis results, the total exergy loss caused in conventional desuperheating and depressurizing process accounted for 66.5% of exergy input and 85% of the total exergy loss was due to the mixing between steam and cold water(e.g desuperheating). However, it was shown from the present analysis results that the present alternative processes can additionally reduce exergy loss by maximum 92.7% of the total exergy loss in conventional process, and can also produce additional and useful energy, the electricity of 220.6 kWh and the heat of 54.3 MJ/hr.
This paper is proposed three phase GTO PWM Inverter with energy recovery snubber circuit. The proposed energy recovery snubber circuit effective in reduction of the power loss in the Inverter system than asymmetry GTO snubber circuit.
Urban sewer systems are designed to operate in open-channel flow regime and energy loss at square manholes is usually not significant. However, the energy loss at surcharged manholes is considered as one of the major causes of inundation in urban area. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the head loss associated with manholes, especially in surcharged flow. Hydraulic experimental apparatus which can change the manhole inner profile(CASE I, II, III, and IV) and the invert types(CASE A, B, C) were installed for this study. The experimental discharge was $16{\ell}/sec$. As the ratio of b/D(manhole width/inflow pipe diameter) increases, head loss coefficient increases due to strong horizontal swirl motion. The head loss coefficients for CASE I, II, III, and IV were 0.46, 0.38, 0.28 and 0.37, respectively. Side covers increase considerably drainage capacity at surcharged square manhole when the ratio of d/D(side cover diameter/inflow pipe diameter) was 1.0. The head loss coefficients for CASE A, B, and C were 0.45, 0.37, and 0.30, respectively. Accordingly, U-invert is the most effective for energy loss reduction at surcharged square manhole. This head loss coefficients could be available to evaluate the urban sewer system with surcharged flow.

Recently, owing to increased interest in low-carbon energy supplies, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics and wind turbines in distribution networks have received considerable attention for generating clean and unlimited energy. The presence of energy storage systems (ESSs) in the promising field of active distribution networks (ADNs) would have direct impact on power system problems such as encountered in probabilistic distributed generation (DG) model studies. Hence, the optimal procedure is offered herein, in which the simultaneous placement of an ESS, photovoltaic-based DG, and wind turbine-based DG in an ADN is taken into account. The main goal of this paper is to maximize the net present value of the loss reduction benefit by considering the price of electricity for each load state. The proposed framework consists of a scenario tree method for covering the existing uncertainties in the distribution network's load demand as well as DG. The collected results verify the considerable effect of concurrent installation of probabilistic DG models and an ESS in defining the optimum site of DG and the ESS and they demonstrate that the optimum operation of an ESS in the ADN is consequently related to the highest value of the loss reduction benefit in long-term planning as well. The results obtained are encouraging.
The comparison for the performance of heating systems, district heating and separate heating and power, is carried out in terms of energy consumption and environment on the basis of real operating data. The efficiency of boiler and the heat loss within the housing are assumed with reasonable manner due to the lack of reliable data regarding those quantities. The assessment for the established criteria of previous studies is performed and the new criteria for the analysis is proposed. It is shown that the district heating system is superior to the separate heating and power system from the point of view of reduction of energy use and environment improvement. The sensitivity study for those quantities with uncertainty such as the boiler efficiency and heat loss within the housing is carried out also and the reasons for the analysis results are discussed in detail.

This paper deals with energy-saving effort in the hydraulic power steering system. Commonly, the hydraulic power steering systems are used for passenger cars and the reduction of pumping loss under non-steering condition is important to improve fuel economy. Experiments and simulations are performed simultaneously to examine the main factors to reduce the pumping loss-pressure loss and flow rate of the power steering systems. Fuel economy effect of the optimal design of power steering system is verified by vehicle test - more than 1% fuel consuming reduction is attained.
