  • As the energy and environmental problems are increasingly severe, researches about carbon dioxide emissions has aroused widespread concern. The accurate prediction of carbon dioxide emissions is essential for carbon emissions controlling. In this paper, we analyze the relationship between carbon dioxide emissions and influencing factors in a comprehensive way through correlation analysis and regression analysis, achieving the effective screening of key factors from 16 preliminary selected factors including GDP, total population, total energy consumption, power generation, steel production coal consumption, private owned automobile quantity, etc. Then fruit fly algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of least squares support vector machine. And the optimized model is used for prediction, overcoming the blindness of parameter selection in least squares support vector machine and maximizing the training speed and global searching ability accordingly. The results show that the prediction accuracy of carbon dioxide emissions is improved effectively. Besides, we conclude economic and environmental policy implications on the basis of analysis and calculation.

  • This study assessed the nutrient consumption of children from lunch at day care centers and kindergartens. A total of 184 lunch plates were selected in two child day care centers and two kindergartens in Seoul. Weights of the menus in planned meals were measured and amount of served and consumed lunches were calculated using a digital photography technique. Nutrients of the planned, served, and consumed lunches were assessed using CAN-Pro 4.0 and the Index of Nutritional Quality (INQ) was calculated for each meal. Compared with the estimated energy requirement for lunch for 3-5 year old children, the planned meals of the child day care centers and kindergartens contributed 42.8% and 98.8% of the daily energy requirements, respectively. At a child day care center, a served meal provided more nutrients than a planned meal since some children requested more servings after eating the served meals. This showed that the planned meal did not meet children's needs as well as the nutrient requirements. At the other child care center, children were served less than the planned meal by 6.8%, which resulted in serving less energy, calcium, potassium, and vitamin C than the required nutrients for lunch. Kindergarten A served meals with the energy requirement for lunch of 101.8%, but Kindergarten B served a meal with the energy requirement of 83.5%. Since the served portions were too small to meet nutrient requirements of the children, they consumed almost all the food served, and their nutrient consumption was similar to the nutrients served. Even though they consumed all the food served, their nutrient consumption did not meet their nutritional requirements. When assessed by INQ, the quality of the meal was good; children could consume enough nutrients when served proper quantity. Teachers who are responsible for serving meals need to be educated on proper portion sizes and how to encourage children to practice healthy eating. To promote healthy eating among children, parents need to provide children with messages consistent with what they have learned at institutions and to be a good role model in daily dietary life.

  • Energy saving and environment-friendly dyeing method of cotton with reactive dyes is the ultra low liquor ratio dyeing because it reduces the total quantity of water, dye, salt and alkali during the dyeing process in the effluent as well as the energy consumption. However, this method may not guarantee the quality of the dyeing results due to the specs or unlevel dyeing depending upon the dyes used. The study has focused on the effect of leveling agents in the dyeing of cotton with reactive dyes under the ultra low liquor ratio (1:5). Especially Sunfix N/B MF-D which was selected for ULLR showed low-leveled dyeing comparing with the other MF-D series. A leveling agent having polycarbonate structure increased LDF values of Sunfix N/B MF-D without changing of dyeing fastness. We recommend some leveling agents to improve the leveling behavior for ULLR dyeing.

  • As a unutilized energy, treated sewage water locates widespread near urban areas. From the previous survey, the sewage water is reported to hold energy potential up to 36,000 Tcal/year, which was 2.1% of the total domestic energy consumption and 9.7% of the energy usage in the household and business sector in 2006. Temperature of the sewage water differs locally, but its range is observed in a range of $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ in summer and $8{\sim}13^{\circ}C$ in winter. Since the temperature range of the sewage water has a better seasonal distribution about $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ compared to ambient air, it is a promising heat sink for summer or heat source for winter. The sewage water is also a high quality heat source from its abundant quantity and uniform temperature. Considering the ambient temperature of Korea is very low in winter, a heat pump system using the sewage water can be an alternative to prevent problems of capacity deficiency and frost formation.

  • This study surveyed the fishing efficiency for Japanese common squid based on improvements made to LED fishing lamps by utilizing the training ship of Gangwon Provincial College. The training ship, Haesong-ho (24 tons), was equipped with seventy-two 150W electric power LED fishing lamps (10.8kW), and their fishing efficiency and fuel consumption level were surveyed for a total of ten times during the period between June 15, 2009 and July 27, 2009. In addition, the training ship was equipped with seventy-one 300W electric power LED fishing lamps (21.3kW) and their fishing efficiency and fuel consumption level were surveyed for a total of five times during the period between January 17, 2010 and August 4, 2010. In order to compare the fishing efficiency of LED fishing lamps, the catch of another fishing vessel equipped with Metal Halide (MH) fishing lamps of 120kW for the same period and at the same fishing grounds. The fuel consumption levels during the fishing operation of Haesong-ho was about 1,047.7 liters which was approximately 19.9% of the total fuel consumption level of 5,262.6 liters, and the fuel consumption level per operation hour was on average 9.2 liters. The number of Japanese common squid caught by the LED fishing lamp-equipped fishing vessel ranged from 12 to 1,640 squid for each fishing trial and the average quantity was 652. The number of Japanese common squid caught by the MH fishing lamp-equipped 10 fishing vessels ranged from 40 to 4,800 squid and the average quantity was 2,055. The fishing of Japanese common squid was done by the use of hand lines and an automatic jigging machine. The number of Japanese common squid caught per hand line and a single roller of the automatic jigging machine was in the proportion of 50.8% to 49.2% with respect to the LED fishing lamp-equipped fishing vessel. However, the number of Japanese common squid caught per hand line and a single roller of the automatic jigging machine was in the proportion of 86.4% to 13.6% with respect to the MH fishing lamp-equipped fishing vessel where most of the catch was made by hand lines. On the other hand, in comparing the number of Japanese common squid caught per automatic jigging machine, the number of squid caught by the LED fishing lamp-equipped fishing vessel was about the same or greater than the number of squid caught by the MH fishing lamp-equipped fishing vessel.

  • The development of coal-fired power plants to ensure energy security and electricity consumption is a matter for the Vietnam economy. However, the huge amount of ash discharged is a major environmental challenge. It is estimated that by the end of 2017, the amount of ash in the country is about 40 million tons and annually emitted over 16.4 million tons. While the quantity of coal-fired power plant is rising, the ash content will increase year by year if the ash doesn't treat well. The ash will be increased from 61 million tons in 2018 to 109 million tons in 2020, 248 million tons in 2025 and 422 million tons in 2030. The difficulties of coal-fired power plants are the problem of ash handling, some plants are at risk of closure because there are not enough dump capacity to storage. Therefore, Vietnam is in need of urgent measures to treat a large amount of waste from coal-fired power plants. The specific objectives of this study were as follows: (1) provide an overview of coal ash situation produced by coal-fired power plants in Vietnam; (2) study about regulations related to coal ash treatment; (3) comprehend the literature review of the cement sector status.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the milling characteristics of white rice depending on the guide angles of the cutting roller's induced guide, as well as to verify optimum milling conditions for the cutting-type milling machine. Methods: Brown rice, which was produced in Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, Republic of Korea, in 2014, was used as the experimental material. The milling characteristics of white rice were measured under six different guide angle levels of the cutting roller, which were none, $0^{\circ}$, $5^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, and $20^{\circ}$. The quantity of brown rice for each experiment was 500 kg, and the milling characteristics were measured according to the whiteness, rice temperature, cracked rice ratio, broken rice ratio, and energy consumption. Results: The whiteness of white rice maintained a uniform level, indicating at range of $38{\pm}0.5$, regardless of the cutting roller guide angles under all conditions. The rice temperature rise during milling was found to be rather low, at $13.9^{\circ}C$ and $13.6^{\circ}C$ at $10^{\circ}$ and $15^{\circ}$ guide angles, respectively. The cracked rice ratio after milling was 18.67%-19.47%, and the broken rice ratio was 0.68% at a $10^{\circ}$ guide angle, which is the lowest in comparison to other guide angles. Energy consumption was lower when the guide was used compared to that with-out the use of the guide. The energy consumption tended to increase as the cutting roller guide angle increased. Conclusions: From the above results, we conclude that the cutting roller guide angles of $0^{\circ}$ and $10^{\circ}$ are suitable for producing high quality rice during milling with a cutting-type milling machine.

  • As the elderly population has increased in recent years in Korea chronic degenerative diseases prevalent in the aged have garnered attention in relation to food behavior. In general, dietary intakes of elderly Koreans were inadequate in quality as well as in quantity. Especially, intakes of Ca, vitamin A, and riboflavin along with total energy were insufficient. They tended to consume high carbohydrate and low fat energy rates which may be resulted from long standing vegetable-based flood patterns. Relationships between dietary intakes and indices of cardiovascular diseases revealed that blood pressures and serum lipids patterns tended to be poor in individuals having high abdominal fat accumulations which seemed to be related with dietary consumption of high carbohydrate and insufficient intake of many nutrients. These results suggested that a nutritionally balanced diet including animal sources floods is needed in order to prevent an abdominal obesity and cardiovascular diseases. The bone health status of the Korean elderly appeared poor. It was more serious in women recording a higher prevalence rate of osteopenia and osteoporosis than in men. There were strong associations between dietary factors and bone health status. Bone mineral density was found to be higher with higher intakes of protein energy rate, the total amount of feeds, and many nutrients including Ca and p, indicating that a good quality diet is essential in maintaining healthy bone status in later life. mental health condition of the elderly as measured by cognitive function and the degree of depression was also inadequate and had strong association with dietary consumption. The positive results were obtained in individuals having an adequate dict. Therefore, it could be summarized that the physical as well as mental health in elderly Koreans are highly related with their dietary patterns. Thus, the older adults need te consume nutritionally well balanced diet in sufficient amount, which contains various flood items including significant amounts of animal source floods in a daily diet in order to maintain healthy condition.
