In recent years, electric power systems have been experiencing a rapid change due to the increasing electricity market. For the effective use of power system under the deregulated environment, it is important to make a fast and accurate calculation of the maximum available transfer capability (ATC) from a supply point to a demand point. In this paper, the purpose of this research is to calculate ATC fast and accurately for securing the stability of system and raising the efficiency as a result of anticipating transmission congestion according to transmission open access progressed in the future under the regulated environment of electricity market. In this paper, a study utilized a relation of the potential energy and energy function by which calculated CCT and then utilized a relation of PEBS for transient stability ATC calculation. In this paper, ATC was calculated as RPF and Energy Function method and calculation results of each method was compared. Contingence ranking method decided the weak bus by the Eigenvalues of Jacobian matrix and overloading branches by PI-index. As a result, a study proved the fast and accurate ATC calculation method considering transient stability suggested in this paper. Through the case study using New England 39 bus system, it is confirmed that the proposed method can be used for real time operation and the planning of electric market.
When the magnetotail is disturbed by an impulsive input such as the substorm onset, compressional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves play an important role in delivering perturbed energy and exciting various wave modes and currents. The plasmasheet, in which relatively hot plasmas exist, is surrounded by relatively cold plasmas at the plasma sheet boundary layer (PSBL) and the equatorial plasmasphere. Since the Alfven speed significantly varies near these regions, the compressional waves are expected to undergo mode conversion by inhomogeneity at the boundary between cold and hot plasma regions. We investigate how the initial compressional MHD wave energy is reflected, transmitted, and absorbed across that boundary by adopting the invariant imbedding method (IIM) which gives the exact reflection, transmission, and absorption coefficients without any theoretical approximations for given frequencies and wave numbers. The IIM method is very useful in quantifying the reflection and transmission of compressional waves in the sense that we can calculate how much fast mode wave energy is delievered into shear Alfven waves or field-aligned currents. Our results show that strongly localized absorption occurs at the boundary region. This feature suggests that localized field-aligned currents can be impulsively excited at such boundary regions by any compressional disturbances, which is highly associated with impulsive auroral brightening at the substorm onset. We compare our results with previous studies in cold inhomogeneous plasmas.
In this study, the effects of the dispersants, i.e., Hypermer KD-2 and poly(l-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP), and their concentration on the dispersion stability of Ni nanoparticles ($10nm{\sim}40nm$) in ethanol were investigated by using a visual inspection, a transmission profile (Turbiscan), and a zeta potential measurement. The transmission profiles measured by Turbiscan showed that the particle size increased over the entire height of the sample for suspensions with both the dispersants without showing any particle coalescence and sedimentation. The visual inspection also confirmed that the Ni suspensions with Hypermer KD-2 and PVP were very stable for more than a year. The zeta potential values varied from positive to negative with increasing the dispersant's concentration. The dispersion stability of the suspensions was not affected by both the dispersant's concentration and the zeta potential values. The observed suspension stability of Ni nanoparticles was attributed to the steric effect for the Hypermer KD-2 and to the bridging effect for the PVP.

Two-way relaying is an effective way of improving system spectral efficiency by making use of physical layer network coding. However, energy efficiency in OFDM-based bidirectional relaying with asymmetric traffic requirement has not been investigated. In this study, we focused on subcarrier transmission mode selection, bit loading, and power allocation in a multicarrier single amplified-and-forward relay system. In this scheme, each subcarrier can operate in two transmission modes: one-way relaying and two-way relaying. The problem is formulated as a mixed integer programming problem. We adopt a structural approximation optimization method that first decouples the original problem into two suboptimal problems with fixed subcarrier subsets and then finds the optimal subcarrier assignment subsets. Although the suboptimal problems are nonconvex, the results obtained for a single-tone system are used to transform them to convex problems. To find the optimal subcarrier assignment subsets, an iterative algorithm based on subcarrier ranking and matching is developed. Simulation results show that the proposed method can improve system performance compared with conventional methods. Some interesting insights are also obtained via simulation.
A high-resolution transmission electron microscopy study on the lattice defects formed in the high energy P ion implanted silicon was carried out on an atomic level. Results show that Lomer dislocations, 60$^{\circ}$perfect dislocations, 60$^{\circ}$ dislocation dipole and extrinsic stacking fault formed in the near Rp of as-implanted specimen. In the annelaed specimens, interstitial Frank loops, 60$^{\circ}$perfect disolations, 60$^{\circ}$dislocation dipoles, stacking faults, precipitates, perfect dislocation loops and <112> rodlike defects existed exclusively near in the Rp with various annealing temperature and time. From these results, it is concluded that extended secondary defects as well as the point defect clusters could be formed without annealing. Even at low temperature annealing such as 55$0^{\circ}C$, small interstitial Frank loops could be formed and precipitates were also formed by $700^{\circ}C$ annealing. The defect band annealed at 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr could be divided into two regions depending on the distribution of the secondary defects.
Having its roots in medical applications, industrial gamma ray CT has opened up new roads far investigating and modeling industrial processes. Using a line of research related to industrial gamma ray CT, the authors set up a system of single source and detector gamma transmission tomography for wood timber and a packed bed phantom. The hardware of the CT system consists of two servo motors, a data logger, a computer, a radiation source and a radiation detector. One motor simultaneously moves the source and the detector for a parallel beam scanning, whereas the other motor rotates the scan table at a preset projection angle. The image is reconstructed from the measured projections by the filtered back projection method. The phantom was designed to simulate a cross section of a packed bed with a void. The radiation source was 20mCi of Cs-137 and the detector was a 1 inch $\times$ 1 inch NaI (TI) scintillator shielded by a lead collimator. The experimental gamma ray CT image has sufficient resolution to reveal air holes and the density distribution inside the phantom. The system could possibly be applied to a packed bed column or a pipe flow in a petrochemical plant.

In many cases, geothemal wells will not be opened up a geothermal reservoir under such conditions that an extraction of geothermal energy is economically viable without any further measures. Geothermal wells often have to be stimulated, in order to increase productivity. For the non-volcanic area, such as Korea, the hydraulic stimulation is necessary to complete geothermal power plant. The analysis of induced seismic event showed that the thermal resource might have a much wider extent and a much higher generation potential than previously assumed. In order to record compressional and shear waves emitted during fracture stimulation, three-component geophones are placed in a seismometer. The recorded data from one seismometer is the convolution of the source magnitude, the transmission media, and the sensitivity of the instrument.

In this paper, an energy regeneration algorithm is proposed to make the maximum use of the regenerative braking energy for a parallel hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) equipped with a continuous variable transmission(CVT). The regenerative algorithm is developed by considering the battery state of charge(SOC), vehicle velocity and motor capacity. The hydraulic module consists of a reducing valve and a power unit to supply the front wheel brake pressure according to the control algorithm. In order to evaluate the performance of the regenerative braking algorithm and the hydraulic module, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) is performed. In the HILS system, the brake system consists of four wheel brakes and the hydraulic module. Dynamic characteristics of the HEV are simulated using an HEV simulator. In the HEV simulator, each element of the HEV powertrain such as internal combustion engine, motor, battery and CVT is modelled using MATLAB/$Simulink^{(R)}$. In the HILS, a driver operates the brake pedal with his or her foot while the vehicle speed is displayed on the monitor in real time. It is found from the HILS that the regenerative braking algorithm and the hydraulic module suggested in this paper provide a satisfactory braking performance in tracking the driving schedule and maintaining the battery state of charge.

There have been lots of researches on the optimal relay selection in relay-based systems. However, most researches have been focused on the maximization of transmission capacity with a constraint of sum power at both transmitter and relays. In Ad-hoc networks where relays have batteries of limited power, it is imperative to minimize the energy consumption while maintaining the required quality-of-service (QoS). In this paper, we propose an optimal relay selection strategy to minimize the relay power consumption while satisfying the required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Through intensive simulations, we show the proposed method is more effective in terms of energy consumption and guarantee lower transmission failure probability in multi-hop Ad-hoc environments.

Wireless networks composed of multimedia-enabled resource-constrained sensor nodes have enriched a large set of monitoring sensing applications. In such communication scenario, however, new challenges in data transmission and energy-efficiency have arisen due to the stringent requirements of those sensor networks. Generally, congested nodes may deplete the energy of the active congested paths toward the sink and incur in undesired communication delay and packet dropping, while bit errors during transmission may negatively impact the end-to-end quality of the received data. Many approaches have been proposed to face congestion and provide reliable communications in wireless sensor networks, usually employing some transport protocol that address one or both of these issues. Nevertheless, due to the unique characteristics of multimedia-based wireless sensor networks, notably minimum bandwidth demand, bounded delay and reduced energy consumption requirement, communication protocols from traditional scalar wireless sensor networks are not suitable for multimedia sensor networks. In the last decade, such requirements have fostered research in adapting existing protocols or proposing new protocols from scratch. We survey the state of the art of transport protocols for wireless multimedia sensor networks, addressing the recent developments and proposed strategies for congestion control and loss recovery. Future research directions are also discussed, outlining the remaining challenges and promising investigation areas.
