The purpose of sensor network is gathering the information from sensor nodes. If there are selfish node that deliberately avoid packet forwarding to save their own energy, the sensor network has trouble to collect information smoothly. To solve this problem we suggest a mechanism which uses credit payment schema according to the amount of forwarding packets. Sensor nodes use credits to send their own message and they forward packets of other sensor nodes to get credits. To offer authenticity we combined the roles of sink node and server, also we used piggybacking not to send additional report message. The packet trace route is almost fixed because sensor node doesn't have mobility. In this case, it happens that some sensor nodes which don't receive forwarding packets therefore they can't get credit. So, we suggested the way to give more credits to these sensor nodes. Finally, we simulated the suggested mechanism to evaluate performance with ns2(network simulator). As a result, packet transmission rate was kept on a high rate and the number of arrival packets to sink node was increased. Also, we could verify that more sensor nodes live longer due to deceasing the energy consumption of sensor nodes.

In order to save time and money needed in the purchase commonly used gamma-ray standard sources, a new radioactive standard source was manufactured by the neutron activation of some regent in the research reactor HANARO. The source was manufactured with an aqueous solution by mixing and dissolving the irradiated reagents. The manufactured source was compared with a commercial standard source. It was confirmed that it could be used as an efficiency calibration source. Also, in order to compare the variation of efficiency due to the volume difference for various containers used in radioactivity assay, the efficiency variation as a function of sample volume was investigated.

Dwelling environments that can help elderly farmers to live more safely, independently, and conveniently are becoming more and more important. Many rural houses are built without any particular architectural or energy-related criteria, so most of them have poor insulation. The construction technology used is also not precise, which increases the loads for heating and cooling. Therefore, rural houses need to be improved. Also, there is more and more need for plans to realize eco-friendly dwellings, so the principle of nature-oriented plans related to the direction, insulation, or landscaping of a house is being emphasized. Insulation is one of the most effective ways to save energy for heating and cooling. This preliminary study to improve the insulation of rural houses examined three regions in South Korea: the central region, the southern region, and the Jeju Island. A field investigation was conducted on a total of 18 houses, including six from each town in the selected regions. The information was used to figure out the current status of rural houses and the characteristics of the buildings. The main living spaces are the living room for the central region and the main room in the southern region and Jeju Island. The southern regions are plane shapes surrounded by rooms, and all ventilation is accomplished by windows. The studied houses were mostly masonry structures with slate rooftops. Additions and improvements included room expansions and bathroom interior installations.
Tall Buildings have been one of the most prominent symbols of economic growth for nearly a century. Yet, in the aftermath of the tragedies of September 11, "signature" Tall buildings have become the focus of much debate. The structural systems today are undergoing a major evolution to address the ability of providing flexibility in the design and use of the building together with sustainability (Green) and cost-effective system. This paper describes a new invented structural system, evolutionary structural analysis and design of Tall buildings, which involves the entire analysis process, including conceptual and design stages and comparison with the existing Tall building. This study presents an new innovative structural system, Beehive (Hexagrid), for Tall buildings. The final results are achieved by modeling an 80 story Tall building with the optimized angle and topology of hexagon members by using a computer analysis, ETABS finite element analysis. The objective function of this system is to use one structural system in order to both maximize Eigen frequency for resisting dynamic responses and minimize mean compliance for static responses. Finite element analysis is carried out by using standardized materials. Optimal Hexagrid topologies with the highest stiffness are finally determined to resist both static and dynamic behaviors. Holistic design integration approaches between structures and facades to save energy for environmental control are studied. Innovative design ideas to control structural motion as well as to utilize that motion to harness energy are discussed. Considering abundant emergence of tall buildings all over the world in recent years, the importance of the studies presented in this paper cannot be overemphasized for constructing more sustainable built environments.

In this paper, we propose an QoS aware multi-layer MAC(QAML-MAC) protocol in a wireless sensor networks. Since the proposed protocol is based on the sleep-awake architecture, which save node's energy to prolong the entire network lifetime. For this purpose the QAML-MAC first classifies incoming data according to their transmission urgency and then saves them. The protocol also adapts the cross-layer concept to re-arrange the order of transmission with the same destination. So the delay can be decreased, which can not be obtained with the previous related protocols. And high priority data such as real-time multimedia or critical value in the field monitoring applications can be transmitted quickly, Furthermore the proposed protocol has advantage of decreasing transmitted data collisions using multiple layers of idle listening when there is no high-priority data. So energy consumptions of sensor nodes can be saved and the network lifetime can be prolonged.

When ZigBee network supports beacon transmission mechanism, ZigBee devices have the restriction of the transmission range from the coordinator. On the contrary, when it does not support beacon transmission, it is not easy to save the energy through turning into sleep mode. This paper proposes active slot allocation method that allocates a transmission time and does not use the beacon transmission mechanism. It is based on the ZigBee's distributed address assignment mechanism and supports the scalability. This paper explains the active slot structure and the allocation order and describes the operation of ZigBee devices. We verify the proposed mechanism through the simulation and show the performance evaluation. It can be useful on the industrial automation and the environmental surveillance.
Heavy metal adsorption on peat was studied to examine the utilization of abundant natural resouces as pollution control. The smaller the peat particle size, the more the heavy metals studied were adsorbed. Adsorption of heavy metals on peat was greater in single metal solutions than in mixed solutions, and the order of adsorption amount on peat was Cu > Cd > Zn. The most effective pH range of the adsorption of Cd, Zn, and Cu was between 4 and 6. With increasing the concentration of heavy metals the amount of adsorption on peat was increased, but the adsorption ratio was decreased. The adsorption of heavy metals on peat was fitted to the Freundlich isotherm and peat was appeared to be an effective adsorbent of the heavy metals. The treatment of polyethyleneimine(PEI) on the peat surface effectively increased adsorption capacity of the heavy metals. Because of its higher energy content, the heavy metal adsorbed peat could be utilized as a energy source. After burning the peat, the reduced peat volume could be save the expenses for waste disposal.
This paper discusses definition, concepts, approach methods, application areas, and evaluation of avoided generation costs based on the Korea's official long-term generation expansion plan. The main objective to evaluate avoided costs of resources is to supply decision makers with the breakeven costs of the resources. For the evaluation of avoided costs based on the Korea's generation system, we consider a DSM option which has 1,000MW peak savings, load factor with 70 percents, and life-time with 25 years. The DSM resource can save the fuel spending and capacity additions of a electric utility during its life time. The capacity and fuel savings are evaluated from two different cashflows with and without the DSM option, which are supplied with on the basis of the generation system optimization model (WASP-II), independently. The breakeven kWh costs of the DSM option is projected to be 31.3 [won/kWh], which is composed of generation capacity and fuel avoided costs with 15.0[won/kWh] and 16.3[won/kWh], respectively.
Many embedded real - lime systems have adopted processors supported with dynamic voltage scal-ing(DVS) recently. Power is one of the important metrics for Optimization in the design and operation of embedded real-time systems. We can save considerable energy by using slowdown of processor sup-ported with DVS. In this paper, we improved the previous algorithm at a point of view of time complexity to calculate task slowdown factors for an efficient energy consumption in embedded real-time systems with task synchronization. We grasped the properties of the previous algorithm having $O(n^{2})$ time complexity through mathematical analysis and s simulation. Using its properties we proposed the improved algorithms with O(nlogn) and O(n) time complexity which have the same performance as the previous algorithm has.
In the embedded system domain, both memory requirement and energy consumption are great concerns. To save memory and energy, the 32 bit ARM processor supports the 16 bit Thumb instruction set. For a given program, the Thumb code is typically smaller than the ARM code. However, the limitations of the Thumb instruction set can often lead to generation of poorer quality code. To generate codes with smaller size but a little slower execution speed, Krishnaswarmy suggests a profiling guided selection algorithm at module level for generating mixed ARM and Thumb codes for application programs. The resulting codes of the algorithm give significant code size reductions with a little loss in performance. When the instruction set is selected at module level, some functions, which should be compiled in Thumb mode to reduce code size, are compiled to ARM code. It means we have additional code size reduction chance. In this paper, we propose a profile guided selection algorithm at function level for generating mixed ARM and Thumb codes for application programs so that the resulting codes give additional code size reductions without loss in performance compared to the module level algorithm. We can reduce 2.7% code size additionally with no performance penalty
