  • In recent years, scientific community has found renewed interest in hypersonic flight research. These hypersonic vehicles undergo severe aero-thermal environment during their flight regimes. During reentry and hypersonic flight of these vehicles through atmosphere real gas effects come into play. The analysis of such hypersonic flows is critical for proper aero-thermal design of these vehicles. The numerical simulation of hypersonic real gas flows is a very challenging task. The present work emphasizes numerical simulation of hypersonic flows with thermal non-equilibrium. Hyperbolic system of equations with stiff relaxation method are identified in recent literature as a novel method of predicting long time behaviour of systems such as gas at high temperature. In present work, Energy Relaxation Method (ERM) has been considered to simulate the real gas flows. Navier-Stokes equations A numerical scheme Advection Upstream Splitting Method (AUSM) has been selected. Navier-Stokes solver along with relaxation method has been used for the simulation of real flow over a circular cylinder. Pressure distribution and heat flux over the surface of cylinder has been compared with experiment results of Hannemann. Present heat flux results over the cylinder compared well with experiment. Thus, real gas effects in hypersonic flows can be modeled through energy relaxation method.

  • In recent years, scientific community has found renewed interest in hypersonic flight research. These hypersonic vehicles undergo severe aero-thermal environments during their flight regimes. One of the most important topics of research in hypersonic aerodynamics is to find a reasonable way of calculating either the surface temperature or the heat flux to surface when its temperature is held fixed. This requires modeling of physical and chemical processes. Hyperbolic system of equations with stiff relaxation method are being identified in recent literature as a novel method of predicting long time behavior of systems such as gas at high temperatures. In present work, Energy Relaxation Method (ERM) has been considered to simulate the real gas flow over a 2-D cylinder. Present heat flux results over the cylinder compared well with the experiment. Thus, real gas effects in hypersonic flows can be modeled through energy relaxation method.

  • Linear response theory is proposed to be applied for theoretical description of the phenomena in mechanical spectroscopy of solid high polymers below glass transition temperatures. The energy dissipation by sample is given in terms of certain time correlation functions. It is shown that the result leads to the result by Kirkwood on the energy loss and relaxation of cross-linked polymers, if the Liouville operator is replaced by the diffusion equation operator of Kirkwood. An approximation method of calculating the correlation functions is considered in order to show a way to calculate relaxation times. Using the approximation method, we consider a double-well potential model for energy relaxation, in order to see a connection between the present theory and a model theory used in mechanical energy relaxation phenomena of solid polymers containing pendant cyclohexyl groups at low temperature.

  • Two methodologies for predicting thermal relaxation time of tissue subjected to pulsed laser irradiation is introduced by the calculation the optical penetration depth and by the investigation of the temperature diffusion behavior. First approach is that both x-axial and y-axial thermal relaxation times are predicted and they are superposed to achieve the thermal relaxation time (${\tau}_1$) for two-dimensional square tissue model. Another approach to achieve thermal relaxation time (${\tau}_2$) is measuring the time required for local temperature drop until $e^{-1}$ of the maximum laser induced heating.

  • A zero-dimensional direct simulation Monte Carlo(DSMC) model is developed for simulating diatomic gas including vibrational kinetics. The method is applied to the simulation of two systems: vibrational relaxation of a simple harmonic oscillator and translational-rotational-vibrational energy exchange process under heating and cooling. In the present DSMC method, the variable hard sphere molecular model and no time counter technique are used to simulate the molecular collision kinetics. For simulation of diatomic gas flows, the Borgnakke-Larsen phenomenological model is adopted to redistribute the translational and internal energies.

  • In this paper, the properties of Thermally Stimulated Current was studied to understand carrier's behavior of $PVF_2$ film, to be regarded as the excellent piezo and pyroelectricity. The complex relaxation curve of Thermally Stimulated Current was divided into single relaxation style using Thermal Cleaning method. As a result of Applying the numerical method of asymtotic estimation to the divided single relaxation peak, we could calculated the physical factors related to charged particles of the specimen, more accurately.

  • In this paper, the main emphasis and focus will be to study and illuminate the nature of Plastic Energy Dissipation (PED) in variety of polymers. This PED term represents the heat generated during the irreversible deformation of a polymer solid. A series of experiments for various polymers have been conducted in direct measurement method and indirect evaluation method - the incremental strain stress relaxation ((ISSR) method. The experimental evidence to relate the stress relaxation and the sensible temperature rise were revealed by the series of direct method experiments.

  • In this article we prove the existence of the solution to the mixed problem for Euler-Bernoulli beam equation with memory condition at the boundary and we study the asymptotic behavior of the corresponding solutions. We proved that the energy decay with the same rate of decay of the relaxation function, that is, the energy decays exponentially when the relaxation function decay exponentially and polynomially when the relaxation function decay polynomially.

  • In this paper the transient electron transport in GaAs bulk is simulated by using ensemble Monte Carlo method. To analyze the transient electron transport the 10000 electrons in the .GAMMA. valley are simulated simultaneously for 10 picoseconds. The electric field-velocity relation is obtained. The high impurity density reduces the negative differential resistance effect. The result of transient average velocity shows the electron velocity in the transient state is faster than that in the steady state. This transient velocity overshoot is caused by the intervalley scattering mechanism. And we confirmed the fact that the energy relaxation time is longer than the momentum relaxation time.
