Solar Energy Development in Viet Nam: Opportunities and Challenges

  • Nowadays Viet Nam's energy supply which is mainly produced by fossil fuels energy such as coal, gas, and oil. However, the operation of fossil fuel power plants is one of the major causes of environmental pollution and climate change as well. It has a serious impact on the survival of human beings in general. As can be seen, the manufacturing industry is strongly invested, the demand for energy is also increasing. As traditional fossil fuels are being depleted and to minimize environmental pollution, renewable energy is the solution widely used by many countries in the world. Therefore, renewable energy has a significant role in maintaining the sustainability of world economy. Renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, geothermal energy can supply clean and nature-sourced energy to replace fossil fuels. Encouraging development of renewables is a general trend in the world today, which is also a common goal of COP21 commitment on global GHG reduction. The objective of this study is to assess the opportunities and challenges for renewable energy development in Vietnam, particularly for solar power. This study also discusses policies to promote the development of solar energy in Vietnam. While solar power provides ecological, economic and social benefits, it is exploited very modestly in Vietnam, where there are many barriers to slow down the development of renewable energy.

석탄화력발전 해외수출의 경제적 파급효과 분석 (The Effects of Coal Thermal Power Plant Exports on the National Economy)

  • 국내 전력시장은 포화상태로 해외시장 개척을 통해 국내 전력산업의 한계를 극복하기 위한 방안을 모색하려 한다. 해외 전력시장에서 우리나라의 전력산업이 경쟁력을 갖추고 지속적인 성장을 추구하기 위해서 해외시장에 적극적인 투자를 추진하고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 여러 전력산업에서 가장 대표적인 화력발전 중 석탄화력발전의 해외수출이 국내 경제에 미치는 파급효과를 분석하고자 한다. 특히 경제적 파급효과로 생산유발효과, 부가가치 유발효과, 취업유발효과의 3가지를 분석하되, 수요유도형 모형을 적용한 분석 결과를 제시한다. 한국은행 산업연관표 통합소분류 기준 168부문 중에서 17개부문을 석탄화력발전 관련 부문이라 정의한 후, 석탄화력발전 관련 산업을 중심에 놓고 이를 외생화하여 분석한다. 과거 석탄화력발전 수출 사례를 적용하여 석탄화력발전 해외수출의 경제적 파급효과를 분석한다. 석탄화력발전 해외수출의 생산유발효과, 부가가치 유발효과, 취업유발효과는 각각 28,525억원, 9,725억원, 14,761명으로 분석되었다.

  • Development and implementation of food irradiation was driven by needs pertaining to food safety improvement, food spoilage reduction, and quarantine/trade. The need for food safety is caused by the increasing morbidity and mortality caused by food-borne diseases worldwide, and it affects national economy and world-trade. Radiation technology can serve to ameliorate the vulnerability of our food supply system.

  • Supercapacitors as novel energy storage devices between conventional capacitors and batteries, with more specific capacitance and energy densities than conventional capacitors and more power densities than batteries are to be used in many fields. And, social demand on fuel economy and reducing pollution needs equipment of new function such as energy storage system with good power performance, high cyclability and good energy efficiency. Supercapacitor is regarded as one of good alternatives for meeting the requirement of market with excellent power performance and high cyclability. This paper deals with the fundamental characteristics of supercapacitor unit and charge and discharge behavior of supercapacitor module for developing 42V hybrid energy storage system with lead acid battery and supercapacitor in order to adopt to 42V power net for vehicle.

  • The work in this paper presents development of fuzzy logic-based energy management strategy for a fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle. In order for the fuel cell system to overcome the inherent limitation such as slow response time and low fuel economy especially at the low power region, the battery system has come to compensate for the fuel cell system. This type of hybrid configuration has many advantages, however, the energy management strategy between power sources is essentially required. For the optimal power distribution between the fuel cell system and the battery system, a fuzzy logic-based energy management strategy is proposed. In order to show the validity and the robustness of suggested strategy, some simulations are performed for the standard drive cycles.

  • South Korea's solar energy industry has been made vertical integration and specialization as part of the restructuring in the downturn of the world economy and the oversupply situation of raw materials. This study is to understand the characteristics of the solar energy industry, using data to systematic approach. In this study, it was defined the major business of firms as 22 business types and classified into 5 enterprise groups as technology and business strategy. After that, It was deduced features of Enterprise group by the statistical analysis and looked to draw a map of the industrial structure by social network analysis using the information on companies' demand and supply.

  • This paper shows the study on application of the law temperature energy in the deep seawater. Deep, cold seawater has long been recognized as a valuable ocean energy resource. Recently, research and experimentation has been conducted on energy systems using deep seawater: deep seawater air conditioning system, ice-making device, salt and fresh-water manufacturing system and the Spray freeze drying system for extracting valuable material of the deep seawater. They are technically and economically feasible today: once installed, the energy is inexhaustible and there are no adverse environmental impacts. Because of the economy of scale in the air conditioning system, the seawater A/C system is most appropriate for supplying multiple buildings or hotels in a coastal area.

Hydrox Gas 혼합연소특성 에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Mixed Combustion for Hydrox Gas)

  • Hydrox gas which is the mixed gas of hydrogen and oxygen gained fromwater electrolysis is one of the new clean energy sources and thus is researched and commercialized actively. Especially, it can be replaced the fossil energy and shows the better quality compared to the conventional energy such as LPG or acetylene gas. The mixed gas of hydrogen and oxygen is gained from water electrolysis reaction. It has constant volume ratio 2:1 of hydrogen and oxygen, and it is used as a source of thermal energy by combustion reaction. Further, hydrox gas is nearly a mixed ideal gas combusting itself completely and its combustion shows anunique characteristics of implosion. In this study, temperature rise effects on hydrox gas content through mixed combustion test of kerosene and hydrox gas and LPG and hydrox gas are investigated. it is also confirmed that economy of mixed combustion of hydrox gas as effective energy is fairly probable.

Challenges in Green Innovation Policy after the Fukushima Nuclear Accident

  • This paper examines Japan's Science and Technology (S&T) Basic Plans in accordance with its S&T Basic Law. The Basic Plans promote two major innovation (Green Innovation and Life Innovation) towards the creation of new markets and jobs, specifically under the Fourth S&T Basic Plan enacted on August 2011. Successful smart community demonstration projects at four urban localities were launched under plans to promote Green Innovation research and development of renewable energy technologies. However, the expectation that renewable energy such as solar or wind power can replace nuclear power is not backed by sufficient evidence. Furthermore, the electricity produced by these sources is expensive and unstable owing to its reliance on weather conditions. The Fukushima nuclear power plant accident on March 2011 has also seriously affected Japan's future energy plans. According to a government estimate, electricity charges would double if nuclear power generation were abandoned, imposing a heavy burden on the Japanese economy. Japan is in need of energy policies designed on the basis of more far-sighted initiatives.

농업용 보에 적용된 카프란 수차 발전기의 동작 분석 (Characteristic Analysis of Kaplan Water Turbine Generator Applied to Agricultural Reservoirs)

  • Recently, many advanced countries are devoted to the development of eco-friendly new-renewable energy to prepare for the depletion of resources. Korea belongs to the absolute lack of energy to import from abroad 97% of energy use. So, development and supply of eco-friendly energy such as small hydro power has been required even more. Our country has a large number of small-sized reservoirs and dams. So, hydro generator has been installed at the small reservoirs and dams with the economy. Since the discharge flow of agricultural reservoir is not constant, the guide vane of wicket gate is used for adjusting the output of the generator.
