Recently, the field of construction is putting a variety of effort into reducing CO2, since global warming is being accelerated due to climate changes and the increase of greenhouse gas. For reduction of CO2 in the field of construction, it is required to make plans to cut down heating energy of buildings and especially, it is urgently needed to cut down energy of residential buildings in rural area where occupies the majority of consumption of petroleum-based energy sources. Therefore, this research compared and analyzed the actual energy consumption, by evaluating energy performance of a detached house applying passive house design components for reduction of energy. As the result, energy consumption showed remarkable differences, according to the operation of a heat recovery ventilation unit which is one of passive house design components, and building energy consumption displayed remarkable differences, too, depending on the difference of airtightness performance during building energy simulation conducted in process of design. Based on these results, the importance of airtightness performance of passive house was verified. The result of the actual measurement of energy consumption demonstrated that LNG was most economical amongst several heat resources yielded, on the basis of LPG source energy consumption measured within a certain period of time, and it was followed by kerosene. LPG was analyzed to have a low economic efficiency, when used for heating.

The efficiency, reliability and performance of any heat pump unit can only be ascertained after it has been tested and rated. For this reason, specific facilities, equiped with testing plants are built. Heat pump calorimeter is the facilities used by most of these testing facilities in their rating and certification process. The ultimate function of calorimeters is to, control and maintain the constant standard test conditions (indoor/outdoor entering temperatures and flow rate etc) during testing period. In this study, the test standards of heat pump unit and the structure of the calorimeter are surveyed. In addition, this study analyzes the total energy consumption of a water to water heat pump calorimeter. Heat pump calorimeter consumed much energy to excute the heat pump tests. The energy consumption of the calorimeter was higher than the heat pump unit, and it was increased as the heat pump unit capacity decreased.
Paying an attention to the issue of energy poverty of low-income households and ensuing regressivity of energy consumption, this study empirically analyzes the effects of both household and housing characteristics on heating energy consumption in an integrated way and identifies their causal structure based on the 2016 Korea Housing Survey data provided by the Korean government. Multiple regression analysis shows that household income and deteriorated level of housing, such as age and degree of cracks have positive effects and floor area of housing has a negative effect on the heating energy consumption per unit area of housing (HECPUH). Path analyses further reveal that the direct effect of household income on HECPUH is offset by the indirect effects that are mediated by deteriorated level and floor area of housing, making the total effect statistically insignificant. As a result, there is no significant difference in HECPUH across all income strata, implying that low-income (high-income) households pay more (less) heating costs relative to their income level, since they reside in the houses with relatively low (high) energy efficiency. To deal with this regressive causal structure of energy consumption, a policy option is recommended to improve energy efficiency of low-income housing through the government assistance in its maintenance and repair.
Efforts are being made to respond to global warming. Interest in and demand for the private sector-led RE100 campaign is also increasing. Self-built solar power generation, one of the implementation tools for RE100, is not expanding. However, it can be an economical means of implementation in the long run. In this study, we intend to analyze the impact on the optimal ratio of self-solar power generation using HOMER simulation. OPR defines the optimal solar power generation ratio and looks into what changes there are in the optimal solar power ratio when self-power consumption increases and external power purchase price changes. As a result, the optimal rate of self-solar power generation has a low impact even if self-power consumption increases. As the external power unit price increases, the optimal ratio increases, and at a power unit price of 100 KRW/kWh, OPR is 24%; at 200 KRW/kWh OPR is 31%; and at 300 KRW/kWh OPR is 34%. This shows that the electricity price replaced during the life cycle has a high impact on the economic feasibility of solar power generation. However, when the external power unit price reached a certain level, the increase in OPR decreased. This shows that it is difficult for domestic companies to achieve RE100 based on the economic feasibility of solar energy alone. Therefore, efforts are needed to supply renewable energy in the public sector.
This study developed a KRESS program designed to find the optimization ratio for new and renewable energy systems and analyze the effects of building energy consumption characteristics on the ratio. In spite of clear differences in predicted energy consumption and energy consumption by the loads among 18 facilities, the current formula for obligatory supply ratios applies a correction coefficient according to the building purposes based on energy consumption per each unit area in medical facilities and thus reflects no energy consumption characteristics according to the building purposes. The optimization ratio for new and renewable energy systems was the same for all facilities when the correction coefficients by the building purposes and new and renewable energy sources were all applied. When the correction coefficients were not applied, however, the optimization ratio varied according to building energy consumption characteristics. The findings raise a need to test the correction coefficients in order to select new and renewable energy systems that take into account energy consumption characteristics by the building purposes and loads and reflect economy, environmental performance, and technology.

This study aims to compare the energy consumption characteristics of high-rise and general apartments and propose policy implications in Incheon City where high-rise apartments are planned. The method of analysis is to select the cases, to conduct field survey, drawing review, analysis of Electric Architectural administration Information System. The study derived the current status of energy consumption in high-rise and general apartment complexes located in the same region, Yeonsu-gu Incheon City, and performed comparative analysis on their characteristics. First, electrical energy in the high-rise apartment complexes was consumed excessively, by 1.63 to 2.5 times more than that of the general apartment complexes. Second, the gas energy usage in the high-rise apartment complexes was higher than that of the general complexes, by 1.09 to 1.2 times. Third, the energy consumption per unit area in the high-rises was also higher, by 1.042 to 1.3 times. As individual elements such as incomes, living standards, and life patterns of the residents affect energy consumption, the high-rise apartment complex consumed more energy per unit area than the general apartment complex did. However, this study did not consider the elements of energy expenditure and satisfaction level, which are the limitations of this research.

Air-cooled split-type air conditioners (AC) are very popular in high-rise residential and commercial buildings in Korea. The performance of such AC systems varies significantly with system characteristics and environmental conditions. Particularly, the outdoor condensing unit of the system, if poorly cooled due to high density of AC distribution and restricted outdoor space, will result in large decrease of cooling efficiency and increase of electrical energy consumption and may further jeopardize the system reliability. This paper presents a numerical analysis on the thermal and energy performance of a group of air-cooled air conditioners installed at a courtyard of a high-rise building. The study introduces a series of new energy performance indices to assess the group performance of the AC condensers with different outdoor unit layouts. The results not only indicate the COP of the systems, but also quantify the system capacity and energy consumption. The evaluation method and indices developed are useful for guiding the design of the distribution plan of the AC units at building re-entrants.
The use of the air conditioner is increasing due to the rise of the outdoor temperature during summer, and the problems of the fire and the cooling performance deterioration are caused due to lack of maintenance of the outdoor unit. In particular, overall performance of cooling system and efficiency in outdoor units have been degraded due to an intake of high-temperature outdoor air thereby increasing cooling energy and operating cost. Thus, this study aimed to increase efficiency of outdoor units by evaporating and cooling intake air through mist spray at the intake port surface in the outdoor unit. The measurements results showed that total power consumption of misting outdoor unit compared to that of conventional outdoor units was reduced by 21% approximately, and total power consumption of the entire system including pump was reduced by 16.7%. In addition, the operating cost including water use was reduced by 13.5% approximately. In summary, if a mist-spray nozzle kit is installed in air-cooled outdoor units, the reduction in the usage of cooling energy and operating cost will be achieved without replacement of existing cooling systems or a large scale of repairs.

As people are getting concerned to Environment recently, researches on the environmentally-friendly and effective railway system have been conducted in every aspects. Especially as it became known that the pattern of train driving causes the difference in energy consumption, the researches on the train driving to minimize the energy consumption are gaining a lot of interest. The main study showed the optimal driving to minimize energy consumption while driving after analyzing real driving data measured by EMU of Bundang-line real driving, determining the impact on energy consumption due to train driving pattern changes, executing a variety of simulation on real driving patterns by Matlab Simulink and finally driving between stations by given driving times.
Train driving should be satisfied to run fixed distance within given time, and it is desirable to minimize energy consumption. Minimizing energy consumption depends on the train operation modes by driver or automatic operation. In this article, an optimal operation to minimize energy consumption by changing modes of train operation by a driver is investigated. First, powering model, braking model and consumed energy calculation model are introduced by using Matlab software. The accuracy of the model established by simulation is compared with the real experimental data, which is obtained from an authorized institution. Second, several simulations under a variety of operations in the ideal track are executed, and then the optimal pattern of train driving is found.
