  • In smart grid, privacy implications to individuals and their families are an important issue because of the fine-grained usage data collection. Wireless communications are utilized by many utility companies to obtain information. Network coding is exploited in smart grids, to enhance network performance in terms of throughput, delay, robustness, and energy consumption. However, random linear network coding introduces a new challenge for privacy preserving due to the encoding of data and updating of coefficients in forwarder nodes. We propose a distributed privacy preserving scheme for random linear network coding in smart grid that considers the converged flows character of the smart grid and exploits a homomorphic encryption function to decrease the complexities in the forwarder node. It offers a data confidentiality privacy preserving feature, which can efficiently thwart traffic analysis. The data of the packet is encrypted and the tag of the packet is encrypted by a homomorphic encryption function. The forwarder node random linearly codes the encrypted data and directly processes the cryptotext tags based on the homomorphism feature. Extensive security analysis and performance evaluations demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed scheme.

  • During the last decade most of coordinated security breaches are performed by the means of botnets, which is a large overlay network of compromised computers being controlled by remote botmaster. Due to high volumes of traffic to be analyzed, the challenge is posed by managing tradeoff between system scalability and accuracy. We propose a novel Hadoop-based P2P botnet detection method solving the problem of scalability and having high accuracy. Moreover, our approach is characterized not to require labeled data and applicable to encrypted traffic as well.

  • One widely-used technique by which network attackers attain anonymity and complicate their apprehension is by employing stepping stones: they launch attacks not from their own computer but from intermediary hosts that they previously compromised. We develop an efficient algorithm for detecting stepping stones by monitoring a site's Internet access link. The algorithm is based on the distinctive characteristics(packet size, timing) of interactive traffic, and not on connection contents, and hence can be used to find stepping stones even when the traffic is encrypted. We evaluate the algorithm on large Internet access traces and find that it Performs quite well. However, the success of the algorithm is tempered by the discovery that large sites have many users who routinely traverse stepping stones for a variety of legitimate reasons.

  • Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) have become increasingly significant in intelligent transportation systems, they play a great role in improving traffic safety and efficiency. In the deployment of intelligent VANETs, intelligent vehicles can efficiently exchange important or urgent traffic information and make driving decisions. Meanwhile, secure data communication and vehicle's identity privacy have been highlighted. To cope with these security issues, in this paper, we construct an efficient anonymous authentication scheme with secure communication in intelligent VANETs. Combing the ElGamal encryption technique with a modified Schnorr signature technique, the proposed scheme provides secure anonymous authentication process for encrypted message in the vehicle-to-infrastructure communication model, and achieves identity privacy, forward security, and reply attack resistance simultaneously. Moreover, except the trusted authority (TA), any outside entity cannot trace the real identity of an intelligent vehicle. The proposed scheme is designed on an identity-based system, which can remove the costs of establishing public key infrastructure (PKI) and certificates management. Compared with existing authentication schemes, the proposed scheme is much more practical in intelligent VANETs.

  • As digital transformation and remote work environment advanced by Covid-19 become more common, the scale of leakage damage to industrial secrets and personal information caused by information leakage attacks is increasing. Recently, advanced and persistent information leakage attacks have become a serious security threat because they do not quickly leak large amounts of information, but continuously leak small amounts of information over a long period of time. In this study, we propose a framework for detecting advanced and persistent information leakage attacks based on traffic characteristics. The proposed method can effectively detect advanced and persistent information leakage attacks using traffic patterns, packet sizes, and metadata, even if the payload is encrypted.

  • RTP payload must be encrypted for providing commercial VOD service or private video conference over the Internet. Encryption/decryption delay is minimized because there are constraints in transporting a multimedia data through the Internet. Therefore, encryption algorithm is changed with considering network traffic md load. During many users participate in the same multimedia service, an user who already left the service can receive and decrypt the RTP payload because of knowing the encryption key. In this paper, Security Control Protocol for RTP is designed and implemented for changing the encryption algorithm and the key.

  • Message-locked encryption (MLE) is a widespread cryptographic primitive that enables the deduplication of encrypted data stored within the cloud. Practical client-side contributions of MLE, however, are vulnerable to a poison attack, and server-side MLE schemes require large bandwidth consumption. In this paper, we propose a new client-side secure deduplication method that prevents a poison attack, reduces the amount of traffic to be transmitted over a network, and requires fewer cryptographic operations to execute the protocol. The proposed primitive was analyzed in terms of security, communication costs, and computational requirements. We also compared our proposal with existing MLE schemes.

  • Since the day the Internet became a common and reliable mechanism for communication and data transfer, security officers and enthusiasts rallied to enforce security standards on data transported over the globe. Whenever a user tries communicating with another recipient on the Internet, vital information is sent over different networks until the information is dropped, intercepted, or normally reaches the recipient. Critical information traversing networks is usually encrypted. In order to conceal the sender's identity, different implementations have proven successful - one of which is the invention of anonymous networks. This paper thoroughly investigates one of the most common and existing techniques used during data communication for avoiding traffic analysis as well as assuring data integrity - the onion router (TOR). The paper also scrupulously presents the benefits and drawbacks of TOR.
