Comparative Study on the Users' Awareness and Choice Patterns on the Healthcare Environment Color Index, Focused on Koreans and Romanians

  • In contemporary times, there is an increasing demand for a dedicated healthcare environment, all over the world. The main motivation for this demand is the level of awareness manifested by the users and reflected on their expectations. Therefore new research strategies and design actions are investigated in order to answer to the users' needs and to provide objective design tools for the specialist. This study continues a series of previous developments of the Healthcare Environment Color Index that should be used for public facilities in Korea and abroad. The cross-cultural approach is a new opportunity for exchanging know-how and for testing and calibrating the perception of the users on the color index. The gathering of results was made based on the online survey provided in this phase in English version for the Romanian users. The survey was intended as an objective mean of research and an efficient way of disseminating information on the subject thus contributing to increasing the level of awareness of the users. A total of 86 Romanian and 89 Koreans with valid answers took part in the survey. Comparative visualizations of the results showed significant similarities concerning the patterns of color preferences but also cultural and emotional differences. As a result both categories of users proved to be aware of the relation between healthcare environment color and its effects on health. They also showed a common understanding on the potential of the color index. As a result the most appealing colors to be applied to the healthcare environment were the series G and B, and the most effective ones were proved to be the ranges of high lightness and low saturation but also the medium high lightness and medium saturation. Both the similarities and the differences of choice between Romanians and Koreans show that cultural and emotional differences of color recognition are important and that should be taken into consideration in design, in order to generate an inclusive and efficient healthcare environment.

  • In general, the size of index set of the emotion-based control is smaller than that of the logic-based control. And thus, by using the concept of emotion we can control the behavior's patterns of multiple persons more softly from the global viewpoint. The principle just mentioned, we think, can be applied on fille general purpose system. In this paper we presented a n : n negotiation model in the deal based on emotional agent. Through the emotional layers of the agents we tried to show that the flexible control of the negotiation process is possible especially in case of dynamic environment.

소비자 감성 분석 기반의 음악 추천 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Music Recommendation System based on Customer Sentiment Analysis)

  • 음악은 인간의 감성을 소리로 표현하는 창조적 예술 행위이다. 음악은 사람들의 기분을 우울하게 혹은 기쁘게 변화시킬 수 있다. 따라서 음악을 감상하는 데 있어 감성은 소비자에게 적합한 음악을 찾고 들려주는 데 매우 중요한 요소인데, 다양한 음원 서비스에서 제공하는 추천 알고리즘은 사용자의 기본적인 정보(성별, 나이, 감상 횟수 등)와 사용자의 플레이 기록에 기반한 음악 추천 방식을 주로 사용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 음악을 감상하는 개인의 감성을 고려하여 각 음원이 가지는 고유의 감성을 기본으로 한 음악 추천 알고리즘을 제안해 보고자 한다. 구체적으로, 사용자들이 자주 듣는 음악과 그렇지 않은 음악을 기준으로 '감정 패턴'을 추출 후 상관관계를 확인하고자 하며, 앞선 결과를 기반으로 사용자들이 원하는 노래에 대한 검색과 사용자 감성 기반 추천 방법을 도출해내보고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 사례기반추론 기법을 이용하여 사람들이 주로 듣는 음악과 비슷한 '감성 패턴'을 갖는 특정한 곡을 추천해주는 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 먼저, 분석에 필요한 감정 형용사를 정리하여 변수화 시키고, 의미 있는 것끼리 묶어 음악 감성지수를 개발하였고, 분석의 대상이 될 음원에 대해 고유의 감성지수 점수를 측정하였다. 마지막으로 도출된 점수의 결과를 통해 유사한 감정 패턴이 나오는 곡들을 유사 곡 리스트로 분류하고 사용자들에게 추천하는 과정을 거친다. 앞선 일련의 과정을 거처 도출된 결과는 음원 추천 시스템뿐만 아니라, 인기 있는 곡과 아닌 곡에 영향을 미치는 변수 도출 및 음원 출시 전, 해당 곡의 스트리밍 수 예측 모형 구축 등 다양한 용도로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • The emotional quality of the product have become an important factor in purchasing decision. Classical approach of product design has focused on providing proper functions of the product. However, as the life-cycle of products become shorter and the customer's needs get more diversified, it is now necessary to accommodate the customer's emotional requirement in product design. This study aims to analyze and interpret the emotional characteristics based customer preference survey. This study consisted of two part. First part was to search the optimal combination of design variables through DOE of predetermined 5 design variables. In the second part, we developed customer preference index model to measure the customer preferences about 16 different wood flooring product.

Cognitive and Emotional Empathy in Young Adolescents: an fMRI Study

  • Objectives: We investigated the differences in cognitive and emotional empathic ability between adolescents and adults, and the differences of the brain activation during cognitive and emotional empathy tasks. Methods: Adolescents (aged 13-15 years, n=14) and adults (aged 19-29 years, n=17) completed a range of empathic ability questionnaires and were scanned functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during both cognitive and emotional empathy task. Differences in empathic ability and brain activation between the groups were analyzed. Results: Both cognitive and emotional empathic ability were significantly lower in the adolescent compared to the adult group. Comparing the adolescent to the adult group showed that brain activation was significantly greater in the right transverse temporal gyrus (BA 41), right insula (BA 13), right superior parietal lobule (BA 7), right precentral gyrus (BA 4), and right thalamus whilst performing emotional empathy tasks. No brain regions showed significantly greater activation in the adolescent compared to the adult group while performing cognitive empathy task. In the adolescent group, scores of the Fantasy Subscale in the Interpersonal Reactivity Index, which reflects cognitive empathic ability, negatively correlated with activity of right superior parietal lobule during emotional empathic situations (r=-0.739, p=0.006). Conclusion: These results strongly suggest that adolescents possess lower cognitive and emotional empathic abilities than adults do and require compensatory hyperactivation of the brain regions associated with emotional empathy or embodiment in emotional empathic situation. Compensatory hyperactivation in the emotional empathy-related brain areas among adolescents are likely associated with their lower cognitive empathic ability.

Development of Safety Index for Evaluation of Ship Navigation

  • As a sense of practical field, most researchers emphasize the importance of safety management to prevent marine accidents. The purpose of this paper is to develope a new safety evaluation method using Safety Index (SI) which is to measure the emotional feeling of navigation officer by traffic situations. In this study, the questionnaires with SI are used to investigate the degree of sensing levels of navigation officers according to the navigation situations. In addition, the traffic data obtained from AIS (Automatic Identification System) data are used to give actual situations in the questionnaire investigation. As results of questionaries investigations based upon the AIS data, it is shown that the Safety Index can be used as a criterion to determine the safety levels of ship navigating in a coastal areas.

월경주기에 따른 우울지수 정도와 음성특성과의 상관관계 분석 (The Correlation of Voice Characteristics and Depression Index Analysis in Accordance with Menstrual Cycle)

  • This study investigated the differences between emotional parameters BDI, VHI, STAI-X-I and STAI-X-II according to the menstrual cycles of the female and the relation between changes of the depression index and voice characteristics (jitter, shimmer, CPP, HNR, $pF0{\cdot}F1{\cdot}F2{\cdot}F3$, sF0, sF4, sB1, $H1_{c/u}$, $A1_u$, $A3_c$, $H1A3_{c/u}$, $H1A1_u$). Twenty three females ($30{\pm}4.4$ years old) living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province were participated in this study to answer the questionnaires and record their voice. The participants prolonged /a/ vowel for 5 seconds in a natural condition for their voice recording. Voice data were analyzed using the Matlab and Praat program. A t-test and a correlation analysis were conducted by using SPSS for the statistical analysis. The results are as follows. First, the BDI is significantly higher in group I (lurear phase contrast the menstrual period) and group II (follicular phase against the menstrual period) than group III (luteal phase for follicular phase) (p<.05). Second, shimmer, CPP, pF0 showed a statistically high correlation regarding the BDI in group I (lurear phase contrast the menstrual period). Voice parameters may be useful as supplement in evaluating the emotional change in the phase of menstrual cycle.

남편의 정서적 지지 및 어머니-교사협력이 어머니의 양육스트레스에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Husband's Emotional Support and Mother-teacher Partnership on Maternal Parenting Stress)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of husband's emotional support and mother-teacher partnership on maternal parenting stress. The participants in this study consisted of 216 mothers with children(aged 4-5years). Husband's emotional support was measured by the Parenting Alliance Inventory(PAI, R. R. Abidin, 1988) revised by R. R. Abidin and J. F. Brunner(1995). Mother-teacher partnership was measured using the Caregiver-Parent Partnership Scale(A. M. Ware, B. Barfoot, A. S. Rusher & M. T. Owen, 1995) revised by M. T. Owen, A. M. Ware and B. Barfoot(2000). Parental Stress was measured by the Parenting Stress Index-Short Form(PSI-SF, R. R. Abidin, 1995) revised by M. E. Haskett, L. S. Ahern, C. S. Ward and J. C. Allaire(2006). The data were analyzed through mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows: First, the mean score of husband's emotional support was higher than average and the mean score of mother-teacher partnership was an average level. Parenting stress was lower than average. Second, there were statistically differences in maternal parental stress according to number of children and mother's educational level. Third, husband's emotional support and mother-teacher partnership were influenced by maternal parental stress. The results of this study are important because they show mothers, fathers, and teachers ways to reduce maternal parental stress.

온라인 패션광고의 지속가능발전 지표 평가 연구 (A Study on the Assessment of the Index for Sustainable Development of On-line Fashion Advertising)

  • The purpose of this research was to evaluate the possibility of sustainable development of online advertisements conducted by fashion companies. Factors composed of sustainable development indexes of online advertisement that had been developed in previous studies were identified, and then the relevance between purchase intention and advertisement experience was evaluated. An online survey of 573 persons in the 20 to 40 age range who own mobile phone and have experienced online advertisements of a fashion brand or a fashion company was conducted. The data collected from the survey and the results are as follows. First, the validity and reliability from confirmatory factor analysis of six factors (namely, personal information protection, web use infringement, advertisement expression harmfulness, advertisement expression objectivity, emotional responsibility, and environment-friendly) and 21 questions was confirmed. Second, it confirmed that consumers gave low points to the evaluation of sustainable development indexes of online advertisement of fashion companies. In particular, that consumers gave low points with regard to both environmental friendliness and web use infringement. Third, it was identified that personal indexes such as personal information protection, web use infringement, and indexes relating to advertisement expressions do not directly influence the consumer's purchase intention. However, social indexes like emotional responsibility and environmental friendliness do have an influence on the consumer's positive action intention.

음성장애가 있는 직업적 음성사용자와 비직업적 음성사용자의 음성장애 중증도와 유형에 따른 자기보고식 음성평가 차이 (Comparison of Self-Reporting Voice Evaluations between Professional and Non-Professional Voice Users with Voice Disorders by Severity and Type)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare professional (Pro) and non-professional (Non-pro) voice users with voice disorders in self-reporting voice evaluation using Korean-Voice Handicap Index (K-VHI) and Korean-Voice Related Quality of Life (K-VRQOL). In addition, those were compared by voice quality and voice disorder type. 94 Pro and 106 Non-pro were asked to fill out the K-VHI and K-VRQOL, perceptually evaluated on GRBAS scales, and divided into three types of voice disorders (functional, organic and neurologic) by an experienced speech-language pathologist and an otolaryngologist. The results showed that the functional (F) and physical (P) scores of K-VHI in Pro group were significantly higher than those in Non-pro group. As the voice quality evaluated by G scale got worse, the scores of all aspects except emotional (E) of K-VHI and social-emotional (SE) of K-VRQOL were higher. All scores of K-VHI and K-VRQOL in neurologic voice disorders were significantly higher than those in functional and organic voice disorders. In conclusion, professional voice users are more sensitive to their functional and physical handicap resulted by their voice problems and that goes double for the patients with severe and neurologic voice disorders.
