The purpose of this study was to describe nursing decision tasks, their characteristics, and problems associated with decision making. The subjects were 32 nurses who had at least one-year nursing experience and worked on medical-surgical units or intensive care units(ICU). They were asked to describe their decision making experiences in patient care situations and to identify the characteristics of each decisions. They were also asked to describe perceived problems associated with decision making in nursing. The responses on nursing decision tasks and problems were analyzed with content analysis and the decision characteristics were identified by statistical analysis of variance. It was found that there were 16 nursing decisions which are as follows : decisions related to interpreting and selecting appropriate strategies for pain management(6.6%) ; decisions related to providing emotional support (0.7%) ; decisions related to explaining the patient's condition and rationale for procedures(1.1%) ; decisions related to assisting patients to integrate the implications of illness and recovering into their lifestyles(2.9%) ; decisions related to detecting significant changes In patients and selecting appropriate intervention strategies (17.2%) ; decisions related to anticipating problems and selecting preventive measures(4.2%) ; decisions related to identifying emergency situations(0.4%) ; decisions related to effective management of patient crisis until physician assistance becomes available(2.8%) ; decisions related to starting and maintaining intravenous therapy(2.6%) ; decisions related to administering medications(8.1%) ; decisions related to combating the hazards of immobility(7.3%) : decisions related to treating wound management strategies(5.5%) ; decisions related to relieving patient discomfort(13.9) ; decisions related to selecting appropriate strategy according to the changing situation of the patient(18.2%) ; decisions related to selecting the best strategy for patient management(5.3%) ; and decisions related to coordinating, ordering, and meeting the various needs of the patient (3.1%). The nurses reported the fellowing problems in decision making : difficulties due to lack of knowledge and experience (18.6%) ; uncertainty and complexity of decision tasks(15.2%) ; lack of time to make decisions(2.9%) ; personal values which conflict with other staff(15.7%) ; lack of selection autonomy(30.0%) ; and organizational barriers(7.6%). Continuing education programs and decision support systems for frequent nursing decision tasks can be established on the basis of these results. Then decision ability in nurses will increase through the education programs and decision support systems, and then quality of nursing service will be better.
This paper has a purpose to find out the important points about linguistic factors suited to the assessment purpose and mathematics teaching/learning that a word-problem sentence has to possess. We also examine the degree of understanding of sentence and the perceptive/emotional reactions of students toward two different kinds of word-problem sentences that have same mathematical contents, but different linguistic structures. The objects of this thesis are 124 students from the third to sixth grade in an elementary school. We execute assessment of simple-sentence-word-problem and complex-sentence-word-problem that have same mathematical contexts, but different linguistic structures. Then we have compared and examined their own process of solving the two types word-problems and we make up questionnaire and have an interview with them. The conclusions are as followings: First, simple-sentence-word-problem is more successful to suggest an information for solving a problem than complex one. Second, it is hard to find the strategy for solving a problem in complex-sentence-word-problem than simple one. Third, students think that suggested information and mathematical knowledge are different according to the linguistic structure in the process of perceiving the information after reading a word-problem. Fourth, in spite of same sentence type, the negative mental reaction is showed greatly to complex-sentence-word-problem even before solving a problem.
This study analyzed the differences in parents' perceptions toward children's adjustments after grade skipping and early graduation. Parents of an early entrancer to K university(n=43) and parents of a non-early entrancer to K university(n=12) responded two kinds of questionnaires, one is for parents' perceptions towards children's needs for grade skipping and early graduation, and the other is for parents' perceptions toward children's adjustments to university experiences. Parents' responses were analyzed by MANOVA and MANCOVA. Results indicated that there was the significant difference in parents' perceptions for 'information about early graduation.' That is, parents of an early-entrancer had more 'information about early graduation' than their counterparts. However, there was no significant difference in parents' perceptions, after the effect of 'information about early graduation' on parents' perceptions toward children' academical and social-emotional adjustments. Thus, parents having more 'information about early graduation' considered more seriously the needs of grade skipping and early graduation in their children and worried less about their children's adjustments to university experiences.
The present study was designed to examine fathers' awareness and practice of picture book reading with toddlers. The subjects were 221 fathers who have toddlers, and the data collected by questionnaires were analysed by mean and standard deviation, and frequency analysis. As a result, approximately 59% of fathers stated that it is essential to read to their children who are 12 month old or less, and 36% of fathers answered that they read books as much as their children wanted. The majority considered the emotional aspect of picture book reading as being significant. Also, nearly half (46%) of the fathers read books to their children 1-2 times per week, and 37% of them spent 6-10 minutes at a time reading books. While reading books, 60% of the fathers explained text and pictures to their children and a fourth of the fathers answered their children's questions. Also, while reading books, fathers tried to accept their toddlers' responses positively. However, they did not have much time to read books to their children and had little knowledge on how to read books to infants. Further research and education programs on picture book reading for fathers are needed.
This study was done to develop a Maternal Identity Scale for Pregnant Women and to test the validity and reliability of the scale. A convenience sample of 161 pregnant women were asked to complete the MISP questionnaire which consisted of 45 item, this was done from December 20, 1995 to January 15, 1996. The research procedure were as follows. The first step was to identify a conceptual definition of maternal identity using Robin(1984)'s maternal identity and maternal experience during pregnancy. The second step was to operationalize the maternal identity, that is, perception of image possible of selves as mother, maternal role play by imagination, and the experiences of various emotional responses which are embedded in the mother-fetus dyad. The third step was item development which resulted in 45 items as appropriate measurement of maternal identity are except for the perception of image possible of selves as mother. The result findings were as follows : 1) Four factors for MISP (finally 40 items) were extracted through the principal component analysis and varimax rotation, and these contributed 49.3% of the variance in the total score. All 40 items in the scale loaded above .43 on one of 4 factors. 2) Each factor was named : factor 1 was named maternal role imagery and has 10 items, factor 2 was named happiness and has 11 items, factor 3 was named maternal fetal interaction and has 10 items, and the last factor 4 was named negative emotion and has 9 items. 3) Cronbach's -alpha coefficient for internal consistsncy was .92 for the total 40 items and .89, .90, .86, .78 for the four subscales in that order. Recommendations are suggested below : 1) The developed MISP be used to assess maternal readiness in pregnancy. 2) Replication study be done to test validity and relaibility. 3) For the overall measure of Maternal Identity in Pregnancy, scale for the perception of image possible of selves as mother, and cognitive domain be reorganized for the maternal identity in pregnancy. 4) It is necessary to identify variables that influences maternal pregnancy. 5) It Is necessary to identify that maternal identity in pregnancy is a reliable index of motherhood, to do correlation studies on maternal identity and major maternal variables in maternal transition period, to reoperationalize the maternal identity in postpartum, and finally to designate a longitudinal study of the maternal identity changes or stabilities.
This study was performed to identify the level of stress recognized by the parents as a support system for their infant patients who were hospitalized in an emergency department, thus to provide the resulting data as the basic material of care intervention for the families of infant patients. This study subjected the parents with infant patients who were hospitalized in emergency department of C University Hospital in Daejeon, and the data was collected from questionnaires for them, dating from Mar. 20, to Jun. 24, 2001 This study used the tool(30 questions) which was originally developed by Ji, Dong-ok (1992) for measuring the stress of families of infant patients in emergency room, and then was modified and complemented by this researcher suitably for infant patients. Collected data was statistically analyzed with frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, by using SPSS WIN10.0 program, and the results were as follows: 1. The stress of parents with infant patients hospitalized in emergency department averaged 3.31 on the basis of 5-point measure, which means that they felt stress beyond means. 2. The factor with high average out of stress factors the parents of infant patients recognized included the followings: 'about the pain of infant patients due to examination(3.91±1.00)'; 'about rare opportunity to be in contact with physician(3.78±1.09)'; 'delay in emergent treatment required for infant patients(3.75±1.31)'; 'delay in the general treatment of infant patients(3.72±1.32)'. Factors of the stress level includes the followings: 'care and medical treatment'(3.46±.72); 'body and diseases'(3.41±.97)'; 'lack of information and supportable resources (3.25±.77)'; and so on. 3. For the stress level according to general characteristics, there were statistically significant differences in the result of the condition of infant patients, medical treatment(P<.01), religion, the procedure of treatment(P<.05). With little preceding studies for infant patients hospitalized in emergency department, this study looked through the level of stress recognized by the parents of infant patients. Based on the comprehension on the parents with infant patients and the knowledge on stress factors recognized by the parents, it is expected that we can seek the methods of care intervention such as explanation of care and treatment procedures, unit policies, continuous interest and emotional supports as well as the provision of information to understand the responses of parents and reduce accompanied stresses.
Crosstalk between G-protein signaling and glutamatergic transmission within the brain reward circuits is critical for long-term emotional effects (depression and anxiety), cravings, and negative withdrawal symptoms associated with opioid addiction. A previous study showed that Regulator of G-protein signaling 4 (RGS4) may be implicated in opiate action in the nucleus accumbens (NAc). However, the mechanism of the NAc-specific RGS4 actions that induce the behavioral responses to opiates remains largely unknown. The present study used a short hairpin RNA (shRNA)-mediated knock-down of RGS4 in the NAc of the mouse brain to investigate the relationship between the activation of ionotropic glutamate receptors and RGS4 in the NAc during morphine reward. Additionally, the shRNA-mediated RGS4 knock-down was implemented in NAc/striatal primary-cultured neurons to investigate the role that striatal neurons have in the morphine-induced activation of ionotropic glutamate receptors. The results of this study show that the NAc-specific knock-down of RGS4 significantly increased the behaviors associated with morphine and did so by phosphorylation of the GluR1 (Ser831) and NR2A (Tyr1325) glutamate receptors in the NAc. Furthermore, the knock-down of RGS4 enhanced the phosphorylation of the GluR1 and NR2A glutamate receptors in the primary NAc/striatal neurons during spontaneous morphine withdrawal. These findings show a novel molecular mechanism of RGS4 in glutamatergic transmission that underlies the negative symptoms associated with morphine administration.
The purpose of this study was to verify the basic emotion theory based on the emotion-related research using functional brain imaging technology. For this purpose, a meta-analysis on the functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies was performed. Six individual emotions-joy, happiness, fear, anger, disgust, sadness-were selected. In order to collect the fMRI data of individual emotions, we searched the electronic journals such as Medline, PsychInfo, PubMed for the past 10 years. fMRI experiment data aimed at healthy subjects for 6 emotions were collected, and only studies reported in Talairach or MNI standard coordinate system were included. In order to eliminate the difference between Talairach and MNI coordinate systems, we analyzed fMRI data based on the Talairach coordinate system. A meta-analysis using GingerALE 2.3 program adopting the activation likelihood estimates (ALE) techniques was performed. In this study, we confirmed that the individual emotions are associated with consistent and distinguishable regional brain responses within the framework of the basic emotion theory. The conclusion of this study of the brain areas associated with each individual emotional reaction was substantially consistent with the results of existing review articles. Finally, the limitations of this study and some suggestions for the future research were presented.
With the development of information technology (IT), various information systems (IS) such as Web-based systems and mobile systems have appeared utilizing different technologies. However, recent studies on IS use and user satisfaction rarely account for technological differences among IS and environmental characteristics where IS are intended to be used. The purpose of this research is to investigate the determinants of the use of Web-based ticketing systems for cultural activities and to empirically validate their relationships. Environmental psychology suggests that human beings respond to external stimuli from environments with their emotions, and their emotional states influence human actions, e.g., IS use in this research. Applying environmental psychology to the use of Web-based systems in the culture and entertainment industry, we propose that web site characteristics first influence a user's internal state of mind (i.e., flow) and then the flow state influences the IS use. Studies related to the state of flow collectively affirm the key role played by the flow construct in shaping individual attitudes and behaviors toward IS. Users' flow states are captured by their shopping enjoyment, perceived behavioral control, and the level of concentration on the IS use. Referring to social presence theory, we have included such web site characteristics as content quality, context of web site, and community quality. In our research model, a second order construct is utilized to represent web site quality, because flow theory suggests that holistic experiences with web-based systems (rather than individual characteristics of the web site) are important in explaining the IS use. Further, we have included trust as another important factor influencing the IS use since business transactions on the web encompass higher uncertainty comparing to offline transactions. In order to test our hypotheses, we have conducted an online survey which results in 1,141 valid responses in the final sample. The data were collected from respondents who have experiences in Internet ticketing systems. Although it was a convenient sample, the sample represents a wide variety of user demographics. Validity and reliability of the research instrument were tested and research hypotheses were examined using PLS Graph 3.0. The results indicate that web site characteristics significantly influence the level of user concentration, user's enjoyment in shopping, and perceived behavioral control. Further, the use of Internet ticketing systems is influenced by users' flow states and trust in the web channel. User satisfaction is turned out to be affected by the use of Internet ticketing systems. Unlike extant research on the relationship between web site characteristics and its use, our study has found that, in the culture and entertainment industry, the impact of web site characteristics on IS use is mediated by a user's flow state. This finding has a practical implication that web site design should include as many features that enhance shopping enjoyment and concentration. Other practical implications of these findings and future research implications are also discussed.

We investigate factors affecting chatbot use intention of online shopping mall users. We identify theoretical foundations from the literature and postulate that accuracy, personalization level, intelligence, intimacy, social presence, and piracy concern should affect intention to use more or negative intention to use. Based on 300 responses from online shopping mall chatbot users in Korea, we run the statistical analysis to assure the reliability and validity of the measurements. From the multiple regression analysis, we find that personalization level, intelligence, social presence, and privacy concerns significantly affect intention to use more. In contrast, we find that accuracy and privacy concerns significantly affect negative intention to use. This work will present pragmatic implications upon the design and management of chatbot in order to not only incent customers to use more but reduce factors that may cause negative use intention. Among functional factors, personalization and intelligence increases the intention to use more while accuracy decreases negative intention to use. Among emotional factors such as intimacy and social presence, we find that only social presence significantly increases intention to use more. Privacy concerns is found to decrease intention to use and increase negative intention to use.
