Objectives: The associations between the eating behavior and energy and macronutrient intake from meals and snacks consumed during different times of the day across the menstrual cycle were investigated in 74 healthy female college students. Methods: A 9-day food record was collected during the last 3 days before menstrual onset (phase 1) and the first 3 days after menstrual onset (phase 2) and from the 4th to the 6th day after menstrual onset (phase 3), respectively. Anthropometry was assessed and eating behaviors were measured using the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ). Results: External eating was the most prevalent type of eating behavior, followed by restrained eating and emotional eating. Restrained eating was positively associated with energy, carbohydrate and lipid intake at the breakfast and midmorning snack during phase 3. However, emotional eating was also positively related to energy and macronutrient intake at the dinner and after-dinner snack during phase 1 and phase 3, with higher level detected in the phase 1. The association of emotional eating with the snack consumption was highest in phase 1. External eating was positively associated with energy and macronutrient intakes at the dinner and after-dinner snack across the three phases, the highest level being phase 1. In addition, restrained eating was positively associated with the weight, body mass index(BMI), fat mass, waist and hip girth of the subjects. Conclusions: Eating behaviors varied with regard to meals and snacks consumed during different times of the day across the three menstrual phases. Dinner and afterdinner snack consumption in premenstrual phase could be considered as a time when women are more prone to overconsumption and uncontrolled eating.
Objectives: This study aimed to confirm the relationship between toothbrushing practice after lunch and typical oral health behaviors in children and adolescents according to the subject and type of social support. Methods: The study used data from the 2010 Korean Survey on the Health of Youth and Children and selected 8,704 elementary, middle, and high school students as final targets. Multiple logistic regression was conducted to confirm the link between social support and toothbrushing after lunch. Results: The results showed that in elementary and vocational high school students, statistical significance of all social support variables disappeared after controlling for both demographic and social factors and oral symptom experience. However, in the middle school students, the emotional support of the neighbors and the emotional support of the teachers showed statistically significant effect on brushing daily after lunch (p<0.05). In general high school students, there was a significant association between family emotional support and toothbrushing after lunch (p<0.01). Conclusions: The oral health promotion program for children and adolescents needs to be integrated and coordinated with the overall health promotion program. In particular, it is believed that the school-based program can strengthen the practice of health behaviors by inducing behavioral changes based on the formation of healthy relationships and trust of colleagues and teachers. Therefore, it is necessary to develop social network-based programs including social support such as emotional health and healthy relationships that can be applied among children for oral health promotion.
Parenting or parenting behaviors has been a key subject during the last three decades. Studies on the parenting mainly focused on either the associations between mothers' parenting and child outcomes or variables predicting parenting behaviors. Regarding child outcomes, social-emotional development of children has been more frequently studied than their cognitive development. Also, the characteristics of parents, children, and contextual environments have received attention in predicting mothers' parenting behaviors. Recently, there have been attempts in identifying the processes that are hypothesized to mediate or moderate the relationships between parenting and developmental outcomes. Furthermore, the studies using longitudinal data have been increased as well. For a future direction, the age-specific and culturally sensitive measures assessing Korean mothers' parenting behaviors are needed. Research efforts and policies should be directed toward supporting parents and their children from diverse backgrounds in the rapidly changing Korean society.
In the age of digital convergence, it is expected that quality of life of human beings can be improved by converged devices and services. Researches concerning change of buying patterns and consumer behaviors in these contexts have to be progressed actively. To investigate future trend of consumer behaviors, we used focus group interview for Qualitative approach in the first step and then conducted questionnaire survey for experts in order to get validity and feasibility of research results. As result of research we suggested eight propositions by FGI for 20s target consumers. Additionally, on the basis of qualitative research, by questionnaire survey for 22 experts two perspectives of positive and negative views In future trends were proposed. Results can give lots of Implications and research motivations to academia, practices and workers in public policies who have interests in change of consumer behaviors, thinking styles, and life style under digital convergent environment.
According to previous literature, love involves a feeling of emotional bonds, attachment, and commitment to a specific target from a long-term perspective. In contrast, lust is defined as a sexual desire to engage in sexual activities from a short-term perspective. This research investigates the influence of feelings of love or lust on consumers' long-term benefit-seeking and risk-taking behaviors. Study 1 examined whether consumers' long-term benefit-seeking behaviors depend on feelings of love or lust. As a result, consumers who experienced feelings of love were more likely to prefer products that provide long-term benefits (e.g., a hybrid car) than those who experienced feelings of lust. Study 2 investigated consumers' risk-taking behaviors, depending on feelings of love or lust. The results showed that consumers in the lust condition were more willing to take a risk (e.g., a trip to a hazardous area) than those in the love condition. Taken together, this research demonstrates that consumers' long-term benefit-seeking and risk-taking behaviors depend on feelings of love or lust. Practical and theoretical implications are further discussed.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to examine the level of social support, health promoting behaviors and depression among unmarried pregnant women and to identify the relationship between social support, health promoting behaviors and depression. Method: A descriptive correlational study was conducted. The participants were 102 unmarried pregnant women receiving shelter services from four facilities in two metropolitan cities. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA and Pearson correlation were used for data analysis. Results: The level of social support and health promoting behaviors were relatively lower and the level of depression was relatively higher than those of married pregnant women. The participants received especially low social support from their unmarried partner. There was a positive relationship between social support and health promoting behaviors. Moreover, there were negative relationships between social support and depression and between health promoting behaviors and depression. Conclusions: To promote physical and emotional health of unmarried pregnant women, more attention is necessary to increase their social support. A nursing intervention program to increase social support among unmarried pregnant women in needed.
This study examined the influence of mothers' and children's emotional expressiveness on children's social competence. Sixty-five kindergarten children and their mothers were observed in a lab setting which included 5 free play and 5 task episodes. The children's and mothers' behaviors during these episodes were videotaped and rated by two coders in terms of emotional expressiveness, sociability to others, ability to regulate frustration, compliance, and autonomy. Intercoder reliability between the two coders for each behavioral category ranged from .84 to .99. The results showed that children's social competence was significantly influenced by their positive expressiveness, indicating that children with higher expressiveness were more sociable to others and less frustrated in a stressful situation. Significant relationships were also found between mothers' and children's negative expressiveness, and children's compliance and autonomy. In particular, the consistency between mothers' and children's levels of negative expressiveness significantly predicted the children's compliance and autonomy. The socialization of emotion between mothers and children was discussed, as was the relationship between emotional and social competence. Suggestions for future study were also presented.
Purpose - The purpose of this research is twofold; first, it attempts to categories customer demands into challenging and hindrance stressors, second, it investigates the effect of customer challenging stressors, hindrance stressors and customer resources on job satisfaction, emotional exhaustion and turnover intention of frontline employees. Research design, data, and methodology - A quantitative research method with an online survey was adopted to test the proposed hypotheses. Sample was collected from 186 frontline employees. And, structural equation model was conducted through AMOS 20.0 to verify the proposed hypotheses. Results - First, customer challenging stressors and customer resources positively affect job satisfaction. Second, customer hindrance stressors negatively affect job satisfaction and positively affect emotional exhaustion. Finally, job satisfaction negatively affects turnover intention whereas emotional exhaustion positively affects turnover intention of frontline employees. Contributions - In term of theoretical contributions, the current study categorized the customer demands into challenging and hindrance stressors and empirically tested the effect of challenging and hindrance stressors on emotional exhaustion, job satisfaction and turnover intention of frontline employees. Managerially, this study provides insights to the firm by highlighting the presence of challenging stressors and customer resources which have positive effect on the attitudes and behaviors of the frontline employees.
Even though gratitude is considered as an important virtue to possess for successful adulthood, little is known about what cultivates gratitude and its benefits associated with psychological well-being among adolescents. By examining gratitude as a daily mood, this study asked (1) whether adolescents' daily grateful mood varied as a function of daily parental emotional support and (2) whether adolescents' psychological well-being varied as a function of daily grateful mood within person across seven days. The sample consisted of 70 adolescents in 8th grade recruited from a public middle school. Participants completed daily diary checklists online each evening for seven days. On days when adolescents perceived greater parental emotional support from mother or father than they typically did during the week, they rated their grateful mood to be higher than other days. With more emotional support from father, adolescents reported more grateful mood not only on that day, but also the following day. While this result highlights the important role that parents play in adolescents' experience of grateful mood, emotionally supportive behaviors of fathers appear particularly promising for cultivating gratitude. Further, daily grateful mood on a given day accounted for the significant variance in adolescents' psychological well-being not only on the same day, but also the following day. Research and practical implications of the results are discussed.
Purpose - In recent years, management scholars have expressed growing interest in the concept of person-Job fit because of having many benefits for employees' attitudes and behaviors. The related research is needed to determine what specific types of fit are related to each other, and to get important individual outcomes. Person-job fit of employees in service organization plays an important role in company as well as person in service industry. Person-job fit, representing the consistency between person (service provider) and job (service provided to the customers), gives significant and positive effects on the attitude and behavior of service provider. On the basis of the study background, the purpose of this study is as follows. First, we would like to examine the effects of person-job fit of service provider on their emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is divided into four sub-factors such as self-understanding, understanding others, emotional utilization, and emotional regulation. Second, we would like to identify the relationships between job satisfaction and sub-factors such as self-understanding, understanding others, emotional utilization, and emotional regulation. Research design, data, and methodology - We performed structural equation model using Spss 18.0 and Amos 20.0 in order to verify the hypotheses. Subjects were golf service assistants who were high-touching service with high degree in interaction and long contact time with customers. 178 out of the total 200 surveys were used in evaluation from helpers of golf service working as full-time service provider after selecting two locations of golf course located near Busan. From the evaluation of reliability and validity with variables used in this research, they satisfied and confirmed certain standard. Results - The results are as follows. First, as the results of identifying the relationships between person-job fit and emotional intelligence of service provider, person-job fit did not have positive and significant effect on self-understanding. On the other hand, it affected positively and significantly other factors in emotional intelligence such as emotion to others, emotional utilization, and emotional regulation. Second, as the results of identifying the relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction, sub-factors in emotional intelligence such as emotion to others, emotional utilization, and emotional regulation except self-emotion affected significantly and positively job satisfaction. However, self-emotion did not have significant and positive effects on job satisfaction. Conclusion - These results will be valuable and used for service providers. In addition, many service providers will recognize that person-job fit is very important to get a job. This research has a purpose on the assumption that appropriateness between individual and task in service industry shall act as major influence in emotional intelligence of service provider. Recognitive ability of service provider is also very important per characteristics of service, but emotional intelligence that interacts and connected directly with most customers can be a very meaningful factor as well. Emotional intelligence allows people to recognize, understand, and empathize the emotion of customers shall be a positive reinforcement for customers to evaluate the service ultimately.
