  • This paper proposes the concept of “Artificial Emotion”(AE). The goal of AE is simulation, extension and expansion of natural emotion, especially human emotion. The object of AE is machine emotion and emotion machine. The contents of AE are emotion recognition, emotion measurement, emotion understanding emotion representation emotion generation, emotion processing, emotion control and emotion communication.   • Emotion affects many parts of human life such as learning ability, behavior and judgment. It is important to understand human nature. Emotion can only be inferred from facial expressions or gestures, what it actually is. In particular, emotion is difficult to classify not only because individuals feel differently about emotion but also because visually induced emotion does not sustain during whole testing period. To solve the problem, we acquired bio-signals and extracted features from those signals, which offer objective information about emotion stimulus. The emotion pattern classifier was composed of unsupervised learning algorithm with hidden nodes and feature vectors. Restricted Boltzmann machine (RBM) based on probability estimation was used in the unsupervised learning and maps emotion features to transformed dimensions. The emotion was characterized by non-linear classifiers with hidden nodes of a multi layer neural network, named deep belief network (DBN). The accuracy of DBN (about 94 %) was better than that of back-propagation neural network (about 40 %). The DBN showed good performance as the emotion pattern classifier.

  • Recently, we are getting to interest in a user friendly machine. The emotion is one of most important conditions to be familiar with people. The machine uses sound or image to express or recognize the emotion. This paper deals with the method of recognizing emotion from the sound. The most important emotional component of sound is a tone. Also, the inference ability of a brain takes part in the emotion recognition. This paper finds empirically the emotional components from the speech and experiment on the emotion recognition. This paper also proposes the recognition method using these emotional components and the transition probability.

  • One of the most active areas of research in the field of affective computing and signal processing is emotion recognition. This paper proposes emotion recognition of low-resource (Sindhi) language. This work's uniqueness is that it examines the emotions of languages for which there is currently no publicly accessible dataset. The proposed effort has provided a dataset named MAVDESS (Mehran Audio-Visual Dataset Mehran Audio-Visual Database of Emotional Speech in Sindhi) for the academic community of a significant Sindhi language that is mainly spoken in Pakistan; however, no generic data for such languages is accessible in machine learning except few. Furthermore, the analysis of various emotions of Sindhi language in MAVDESS has been carried out to annotate the emotions using line features such as pitch, volume, and base, as well as toolkits such as OpenSmile, Scikit-Learn, and some important classification schemes such as LR, SVC, DT, and KNN, which will be further classified and computed to the machine via Python language for training a machine.   • In human and robot interaction, the role of emotion becomes more important Therefore, robots need the emotion expression mechanism similar to human. In this paper, we suggest a new emotion expression system based on the psychological studies and it consists of five affective elements, i.e., the emotion, the mood, the personality, the tendency, and the machine rhythm. Each element has somewhat peculiar influence on the emotion expression pattern change according to their characteristics. As a result, although robots were exposed to the same external stimuli, each robot can show a different emotion expression pattern. The proposed system may contribute to make a rather natural and human-friendly human-robot interaction and to promote more intimate relationships between people and robots.

A Korean Emotion Features Extraction Method and Their Availability Evaluation for Sentiment Classification (감정 분류를 위한 한국어 감정 자질 추출 기법과 감정 자질의 유용성 평가)

  • In this paper, we propose an effective emotion feature extraction method for Korean and evaluate their availability in sentiment classification. Korean emotion features are expanded from several representative emotion words and they play an important role in building in an effective sentiment classification system. Firstly, synonym information of English word thesaurus is used to extract effective emotion features and then the extracted English emotion features are translated into Korean. To evaluate the extracted Korean emotion features, we represent each document using the extracted features and classify it using SVM(Support Vector Machine). In experimental results, the sentiment classification system using the extracted Korean emotion features obtained more improved performance(14.1%) than the system using content-words based features which have generally used in common text classification systems.

Music Emotion Classification Based On Three-Level Structure (3 레벨 구조 기반의 음악 무드분류)

  • This paper presents the automatic music emotion classification on acoustic data. A three-level structure is developed. The low-level extracts the timbre and rhythm features. The middle-level estimates the indication functions that represent the emotion probability of a single analysis unit. The high-level predicts the emotion result based on the indication function values. Experiments are carried out on 695 homogeneous music pieces labeled with four emotions, including pleasant, calm, sad, and excited. Three machine learning methods, GMM, MLP, and SVM, are compared on the high-level. The best result of 90.16% is obtained by MLP method.

Emotion Recognition in Arabic Speech from Saudi Dialect Corpus Using Machine Learning and Deep Learning Algorithms

  • Speech can actively elicit feelings and attitudes by using words. It is important for researchers to identify the emotional content contained in speech signals as well as the sort of emotion that resulted from the speech that was made. In this study, we studied the emotion recognition system using a database in Arabic, especially in the Saudi dialect, the database is from a YouTube channel called Telfaz11, The four emotions that were examined were anger, happiness, sadness, and neutral. In our experiments, we extracted features from audio signals, such as Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) and Zero-Crossing Rate (ZCR), then we classified emotions using many classification algorithms such as machine learning algorithms (Support Vector Machine (SVM) and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN)) and deep learning algorithms such as (Convolution Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM)). Our Experiments showed that the MFCC feature extraction method and CNN model obtained the best accuracy result with 95%, proving the effectiveness of this classification system in recognizing Arabic spoken emotions.

Use of Word Clustering to Improve Emotion Recognition from Short Text

  • Emotion recognition is an important component of affective computing, and is significant in the implementation of natural and friendly human-computer interaction. An effective approach to recognizing emotion from text is based on a machine learning technique, which deals with emotion recognition as a classification problem. However, in emotion recognition, the texts involved are usually very short, leaving a very large, sparse feature space, which decreases the performance of emotion classification. This paper proposes to resolve the problem of feature sparseness, and largely improve the emotion recognition performance from short texts by doing the following: representing short texts with word cluster features, offering a novel word clustering algorithm, and using a new feature weighting scheme. Emotion classification experiments were performed with different features and weighting schemes on a publicly available dataset. The experimental results suggest that the word cluster features and the proposed weighting scheme can partly resolve problems with feature sparseness and emotion recognition performance.
