  • Thin films (< 30 nm) of titanium carbide (TiC) are coated on carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which are directly grown on nano-sized ($\sim$ 500 nm in diameter) conical-type tungsten (W) tips, by employing an inductively coupled plasma-chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD) technique. Any modification in structural properties (such as length to diameter ratio, crystal quality, and growth behavior) of CNTs due to TiC-coating has been monitored by using high-resolution TEM, field-emission SEM, and Raman spectroscopy. Driving voltage for obtaining the same level of emission current in CNTs-emitter is significantly reduced by TiC-coating. It is also worthy of being noted that the degradation of emission current due to prolonged operation (up to 30 h) is remarkably suppressed by TiC-coating.

  • In order to realize full color display, two approaches were used. The first method is the patterning of red, green, and blue emitters using a selective deposition. Another approach is based on a white-emitting diode, from which the three primary colors could be obtained by micro-patterned color filters. White-light-emitting organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) are attracting much attention recently due to potential applications such as backlights in liquid crystal displays (LCDs) or other illumination purposes. In order for the white OLEDs to be used as backlights in LCDs, the light emission should be bright and have Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of (0.33, 0.33). For obtaining white emission from OLEDs, different colors should be mixed with proper balances even though there are a few different methods for mixing colors. In this study, we will report a white organic electroluminescent device based on an incomplete energy transfer. In which the blue and green emission come from the same layer via incomplete energy transfer.

  • Triode field emitters with planar-carbon-nanopaticle (CNP) cathodes were successfully fabricated using the conventional photolithography and the hotfilament chemical vapor deposition. Electron emission from a CNP triode emitter with a 12-${\mu}m$-diameter gate hole started at the gate voltage of 45 V, and the anode current reached the level of ${\sim}120$ nA at the gate voltage of 60 V, respectively. For the quantitative analysis of the Fowler-Nordheim (F-N) type emission from a CNP triode emitter, we carried out 2dimensional numerical calculation of electrostatic potential using the finite element method. As it turned out, a radial variation of electric field was very important to account for the emission from a planar emitting layer. By assuming the graphitic work function of 5 eV for CNPs, we were able to extract a consistent set of F-N parameters, together with the radial position of emitting sites.

  • This paper analyzed what kind of institutional scheme for domestic policy instruments to reduce GHG emissions are desirable for Korea in complying with the international efforts to mitigate climate change, by focusing on independent abatement(equivalent to the imposition of carbon tax) and domestic emission trading. It also examined the economic and environmental implications of recycling the government revenue created from implementation of those policies. By utilizing a dynamic CGE model, this study shows that the economic cost under independent abatement is projected to be higher than that under emission trading. It is because under independent abatement scheme each emitter in economy must meet its emission target regardless of the abatement cost. On the other hand, emission trading allows emitters to reduce the marginal cost of abatement through trading of emission permits. In designing future domestic policies and measure to address the climate change problem in Korea, therefore, this study proposes the introduction of domestic emission trading scheme as the main domestic policy instrument for GHG emission abatement. In terms of double dividend, in addition, this study shows that both independent abatement and emission trading schemes under various assumption on the revenue recycling may not generate the double dividend in Korea.

  • This paper analyzes the economic and environmental impacts of domestic policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by focusing on carbon tax, domestic emissions trading and the mixture of these policies. By utilizing a dynamic CGE model, KORTEM, this study shows that the economic cost under carbon tax is projected to be higher than that under emission trading. It is because under carbon tax scheme each emitter in economy must meet its emission target regardless of the abatement cost. On the other hand, emission trading allows emitters to reduce the marginal cost of abatement through trading of emission permits. • The technology of direction finding is very important to find the direction of emitters for ELINT(electronic intelligence) system. The principle of TDOA(time difference of arrival) is to receive an emitter signal with two antennas, measure the time difference between two antennas, and converse the time difference to direction difference. This technology can be used in broadband frequency system and make the system very simple because a phase-discriminator and a voltage comparator are not needed. For fine DF accuracy, high time resolution receiver and long basis line antennas are needed. The DF accuracy of noise added signals is simulated with different time

  • The effects of the field emission property in relation to the surface morphology and adhesion force were investigated. The single-wall-nanotube-based cathode was obtained by use of an in-situ arc discharge synthesis method, a screen-printing method and a spray method. The morphologies of the formed emitter layers were very different. The emission stability and uniformity were dramatically improved by employing an in-situ arc discharge synthesis method. In this study, it was confirmed that the current stability and uniformity of the field emission of the cathode depend on the surface morphology and adhesion force of the emitters. The current stability of the field emission device was also studied through an electrical aging process by varying the current and electric field.

  • We have fabricated the selective emitter solar cell using double textured nanowires structure. The $40{\times}40mm2$-sized silicon substrates were textured to form the pyramid-shaped surface and the nanowires were fabricated by metal assisted chemical etching process using Ag nanoparticles, subsequently. The heavily doped and shallow emitters for selectiv eemitter solar cells were prepared through the thermal $POCl_3$ diffusion and chemical etch-back process, respectively. The front and rear electrodes were prepared following conventional screen printing method and the widths of fingers have been optimized. The selective emitter solar cell using double textured nanowires structure achieved a conversion efficiency of 17.9% with improved absorption and short circuit current density.

  • A polymeric host for triplet emitters composed of N-alkylcarbazole and tetramethylbenzene units was successfully synthesized. Efficient energy transfer was observed between this polymeric host and green phosphorescent dyes. The device fabricated using 5 wt% green 1 in the polymeric host as the emitting layer showed the best performance. Thin films of this host-guest system, exhibiting clear stripe patterns could be prepared through the LITI process. The patterned films were then used to fabricate electrophosphorescent devices, which show performance characteristics similar to those of spin-coated devices. The new host material is a good candidate to be used in polymer-based full-color electrophosphorescent light-emitting displays.

  • The authors have demonstrated the various characteristics of hybrid white organic light-emitting diodes (HWOLED) using fluorescent blue and phosphorescent red emitters. We also demonstrated that two devices showed different characteristics in accordance with thickness of the 4,4′-N,N′-dicarbazole-biphenyl (CBP) spacer (CS) inserted between the blue and the red emitting layer. It was found that the device with a CS thickness of 70 $\AA$ showed a current efficiency 2.5 times higher than that of the control device with a CS thickness of 30 $\AA$ by preventing the triplet Dexter energy transfer from the red to the blue emitting layer. The HWOLED with the CS thickness of 70 $\AA$ exhibited a maximum luminance of 24500 cd/$m^2$, a maximum current efficiency of 42.9 cd/A, a power efficiency of 37.5 lm/W, and Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage coordinates of (0.37, 0.42).
