  • The purpose of this study was to analyze water treatment characteristics, including the efficiency of removing algae from water purification plants, by installing a demonstration facility for decontamination of algae, including natural algae remover injection equipment, in the water purification plant. Jar-test showed that the optimum injection of natural decontaminant was 20 mg/L. Of the water contaminant treatment efficiency of the intake and water purification plants, Chl-a averaged 74.0% elimination efficiency from $5.0mg/m^3$ to $1.3mg/m^3$ and the maximum treatment efficiency was 91.5% removal efficiency when the inflow concentration of Chl-a was $11.8mg/m^3$. In addition, 51.2% and 47.1% of the taste and odor indicator items, geosmin and 2-MIB, resulted from the overgrowth and decaying of algae, respectively, to identify toxic substances and odor reduction effects. In addition, elimination efficiencies of SS and Turbidity materials were higher than 70.0%. In the injection of natural algae remover, no effects such as sudden changes in water quality due to secondary reactions were found, and appropriate levels were maintained under water treatment conditions.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to confirm effect of reducing inflammation of Coptis chinensis extract-ceramide complex through the endocannabinoid system (ECS) control in atopic dermatitis. Methods: 8-week-old ICR mice were divided into normal group (Ctrl), lipid barrier elimination group (ADE), palmitoylethanolamide treated group after lipid barrier elimination (PEAT), and Coptis chinensis extract-ceramide complex applied group after lipid barrier elimination (CRA). After inducing atopic dermatitis, cannabinoid receptor (CB) 1, CB2, CD68, p-I𝜅B, iNOS, substance P and serotonin were observed to confirm the regulation of the ECS, macrophage activity and mast cell activity. Results: CB1 and CB2 showed higher positive reactions in the CRA than in the ADE and PEAT. CD68, p-I𝜅B and iNOS showed higher positive reaction in the ADE, PEAT and CRA than in the Ctrl, but the increase in the positive reaction was lower in the CEA compared to the ADE and PEAT. Substance P and serotonin showed higher positive reaction in the ADE, PEAT and CRA than in the Ctrl, but the increase in the positive reaction was lower in the CEA compared to the ADE and PEAT. Conclusions: The effects of Coptis chinensis extract -ceramide complex were confirmed on the regulation of the ECS, macrophage activity and mast cell activity.

  • The reaction of sulfur dioxide with cupric oxide was investigated over a temperature range of 300-50$0^{\circ}C$, and the regenaration reaction was studied using cupric sulfate and hydrogen over a temperature range of 240-35$0^{\circ}C$ in a fixed bed reactor. The experimental results showed that the efficiencies for elimination and regenaration reactions were maximum at 45$0^{\circ}C$ and at 30$0^{\circ}C$ respectively. In both cases the experimental data could be interpreted properly by shrinking unreacted core model while the chemical reaction is rate controlling step. The reaction rate constants were determined to be 24.88 exp(-6724/RT) (cm/min) for elimination reaction, and 0.0165 exp(-2047/RT)(cm/min ) for regeneration reaction.

  • Reactions of n-propyl fluoroformate in a variety of pure and binary solvents have been studied at 40.0 {^{\circ}C}. The extended (two-term) Grunwald-Winstein equation has been applied to the specific rates of solvolysis of npropyl fluoroformate. The sensitivities (l = 1.80 ${\pm}$ 0.17 and m = 0.96 ${\pm}$ 0.10) to changes in solvent nucleophilicity and solvent ionizing power and the $k_F/k_{Cl}$ values are similar to those for solvolyses of n-octyl fluoroformate over the full range of solvents, suggesting that the addition step of an addition-elimination mechanism is ratedetermining. These observations are also compared with those previously reported for the corresponding chloroformate and fluoroformate esters.

  • The reactions of alkanesulfonyl chlorides with pyridines in the presence of various solvents have been studied by means of kinetic method. Alkanesulfonyl chlorides bearing ${\alpha}$-hydrogen with the normal attack of pyridine is found to be at the ${\alpha}$-hydrogen with elimination to form the sulfene intermediate evidently. From the mass spectra by the reaction of ethanesulfonyl chloride with 3-picoline in the presence of methanol-$d_1$, it has shown that the reaction has a witness favorable to the slulfene intermediate.

  • The rate constants for the nucleophilic substitution reactions of substituted benzoyl chlorides with p-nitroaniline in such solvents as acetone, acetonitrile, methanol, ethanol, etc. were conductometrically determined, and the activation thermodynamic parameters were also evaluated. In result, the reaction rates were faster in protic solvents than in aprotic solvent; in the solvents of similar property, the reaction rate in the solvent of the large dielectric constant was faster than that in the solvent of the small dielectric constant. Hammett plots in individual solvents showed the straight lines with positive slope; and we concluded that the reaction occurred via the addition-elimination mechanism.

  • The 3-formyl-2-cephem 4, available from 7-aminocephalosporanic acid has been converted to C-3 vinylic cephems. The reactions involved are the Grignard addition to 4, the conversion of the resulting alcohols to mesylates, and the elimination of the mesyl group by LiCl. When ethylmagnesium iodide is used, only 3-[(E)-1-propenyl] cephem is obtained, which is not easily available by conventional Wittig reaction.

  • Electric field induces cell fusion, electroporation on biological cells, including apoptosis. Apoptosis is expressed in a series of natural enzymatic reactions for the natural elimination of unhealthy, genetically damaged, or otherwise aberrant cels that are not needed or not advantageous to the well-being of the organism. Its markers involve cell shringkage, activation of intracellular caspase proteases, externalization of phosphatidylserine at the plasma membrane, and fragmentation of DNA.
