  • This paper reviewed effects of global climatic changes on wetland biogeochemistry, Wetlands play key roles in global as well as local material cycle, which includes carbon sequestration, $CH_4$ emission and DOC leaching, Increased air temperature, elevated $CO_2$ levels and changed precipitation patterns are believed to affect those processes substantially by modifying oxygen supply, carbon sources, and decomposition rates. For example, elevated $CO_2$ may increase $CH_4$ emission as well as DOC leaching from wetlands. In addition, interactions of multiple effects warrant further investigation.

  • Recently, the hydroforming of high strength aluminum tubes has many studies and applications in manufacturing industry, especially in automotive industry. But high strength aluminum tube has limited expansion capability at most 15% at normal temperature. New manufacturing process, called hot air forming, is introduced to apply aluminum tube to the automotive sub frame components which have complex shape and require high expansion ratio about 40%. The process is carried out at the elevated temperature above $500^{\circ}C$, so numerous material properties and process parameters related to high temperature should be investigated and determined to get a sound product. In this paper, the hot air forming process of automotive sub frame was investigated. The effect of the forming parameters such as the temperature of tool, axial feeding and gas pressure are analyzes by using explicit finite element method.

  • Atmospheric concentrations of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in Seoul, South Korea between July 1999 and May 2000 were determined to investigate concentration distribution in air, relationship between concentrations and meteorological conditions, and apportionment of sources e.g. local sources (air- surface exchange) and long range transport. Endosulfan and $\alpha$-HCH were the highest concentrations in atmosphere with values typcally ranging from 10s to l00s of pg/㎥. These high concentrations may be attributed to their usage, period and chemical property (Koa). All OCPs also showed elevated levels during the summer and were positively correlated with temperature. This would suggest that a seasonal enhancement was due to (re)volatilization from secondary sources and application during the warmer months. The temperature dependence of atmospheric concentrations of OCPs were investigated using plots of the natural logarithm of partial pressure (In P) vs reciprocal mean temperatures (1/T), and environmental phase-transition energies were calculated for each of the pesticides. For OCPs, temperature dependence was statistically significant (at the 99.99% confidence level) and temperature accounted for 35~95% of the variability in concentrations. The relatively higher slopes and phase-transition energies for $\alpha$-, ${\gamma}$-chlordane, endosulfan and endosulfan sulfate suggested that volatilization from local sources influenced their concentrations. The relatively lower those for $\alpha$-, ${\gamma}$-HCH, p, p'-DDE and heptachlor epoxide also suggested that volatilization from local sources and long range transport influenced their concentrations.

  • The benefits of hydroforming technology are known as weight and cost savings through part consolidation and reduced post-forming processes such as welding and piercing. Hydroforming technology has some weaknesses in terms of process cycle times. But, as the hydraulic system and process designs are continuously developed, the cycle time is also reduced to acceptable and competitive levels. Hot air bulging is one of recently developed hydroforming techniques. Hot air bulging in order to further extend the forming degrees of Al lightweight material is investigated. A heated tube is placed in a heated die and sealed at the ends by sealing cylinders. The tube is subsequently expanded against the die cavity wall by internal pressure provided by air medium. The result of this study shows that axial feeding speed and air pressure have an effect on formability of Al air bulging at elevated temperature.

  • The showcase has insufficient temperature control, but it has excellent humidity control. The annual average temperature and relative humidity inside the showcase was $18.8^{\circ}C$ and 60.3%, respectively, and the showcase showed lower temperature and higher humidity than the exhibition room. The temperature inside the showcase appeared with high variation according to the seasons, while relative humidity was ranging from 59% to 61% regardless of the seasons. The showcase showed high temperature and humidity likewise the exhibition room in summer. In addition, lowering of temperature was elevated relative humidity according to the operation of air conditioner in summer. A moisture problem occurred because the temperature and humidity differences between the exhibition room and showcase were large according to the operation of air conditioner in winter. PI for temperature and relative humidity inside the showcase is 18.0%, and it means conservation environment for exhibition is unsuitable. In particular, continuous management of temperature and humidity inside the showcase is required because PI in the summer and winter is less than 1.0%.

  • Experiments were conducted in a constant pressure combustion chamber using schlieren system to investigate the effects of carbon dioxide/nitrogen/helium diluents on cellular instabilities of syngas-air premixed flames at room temperature and elevated pressures. Laminar burning velocities and Markstein lengths were calculated by analyzing high-speed schlieren images at various diluent concentrations and equivalence ratios. Experimental results showed substantial reduction of the laminar burning velocities and of the Markstein lengths with the diluent additions in the fuel blends. Effective Lewis numbers of helium-diluted syngas-air flames increased but those of carbon dioxide- and nitrogen-diluted syngas-air flames decreased in increase of diluents in the reactant mixtures. With helium diluent, the propensity for cells formation was significantly diminished, whereas the cellular instabilities for carbon dioxide-diluted and nitrogen-diluted syngas-air flames were not suppressed.

  • In the present study, the effects of various heat treatments on the microstructure and mechanical properties of dual phase ODS steels were investigated to enhance the high strength at elevated temperature. Dual phase ODS steels have been designed by the control of ferrite and austenite formers, i.e., Cr, W and Ni, C in Fe-based alloys. The ODS steels were fabricated by mechanical alloying and a hot isostatic pressing process. Heat treatments, including hot rolling-tempering and normalizing-tempering with air- and furnace-cooling, were carefully carried out. It was revealed that the grain size and oxide distributions of the ODS steels can be changed by heat treatment, which significantly affected the strengths at elevated temperature. Therefore, the high temperature strength of dual phase ODS steel can be enhanced by a proper heat treatment process with a good combination of ferrite grains, nano-oxide particles, and grain boundary sliding.

  • This work presents an experimental investigation to study $NO_x$ emissions under stoichiometric air ratio and elevated pressure (2~10bar) in a High Press Combustor(HPC) equiped with double cone burner which was designed by Pusan Clean Coal Center(PC3). Exaust gas temperature and $NO_x$ emissions were measured at the end of the combustion chamber. The $OH^*$ radical concentration and $NO_x$ emission were decreased as a function of increasing ${\lambda}$ generally. On the other hand, $OH^*$ radical concentration and $NO_x$ emission increased with ${\lambda}$ pressure of the combustion chamber. $NO_x$ emissions which were governed by thermal $NO_x$, were highly increased under the elevated pressure, but slightly increased at sufficiently low fuel concentrations (${\lambda}>2.0$).

  • In this study, high temperature integrity evaluation on a pressure vessel of the expansion tank operating at elevated temperature of $510^{\circ}C$ in the sodium test facility of the SEFLA(Sodium Thermal-hydraulic Experiment Loop for Finned-tube Sodium-to-Air heat exchanger) to be constructed at KAERI has been performed. Evaluations of creep-fatigue damage based on a full 3D finite element analyses were conducted for the expansion tank according to the recent elevated temperature design codes of ASME Section III Subsection NH and French RCC-MRx. It was shown that the expansion tank maintains its integrity under the intended creep-fatigue loads. Quantitative code comparisons were conducted for the pressure vessel of austenitic stainless steel 316L.

  • A combustion chamber is designed and fabricated for studying the combustion characteristics of counterflow flames at elevated pressure and establishing the fundamental combustion database of counterflow flames. The combustion chamber design aims to allow the maximum operating pressure of 11 bar and be able to conduct flame visualization and the measurements of flame extinction limits, flame temperature and combustion emissions at elevated pressure. Preliminary tests for counterflow nonpremixed $CH_4-NH_3-N_2$/air flames at 1-3 bar have been conducted, and the results confirm the proper operation of the designed chamber.
