  • In this study, we propose a model for constructing a producer-centered self-publishing repository for the personal digital records and three operational process for practical application of the operational model. 1) As essential requirements for constructing a DSpace-based self-publishing repository, we propose producer-centered service provision, management subject, operation and management plan, how to activate the repository of digital personal records producers, copyright issues, development and dissemination process. 2) The repository model constructs a producer-centered circular structure considering these requirements. 3) Through a repository model with multiple agencies, it provides various services such as content distribution, keyword search, usage statistics, recommendation system, and open access to portal users and electronic publishers as well as individual users.

  • In the previous C/S publishing system, the editor or contributor can arbitrarily modify the document created by the author, in which case it is difficult to identify the changes made in the document. Another shortcoming is in that when the document is in need of tracking or editing, the client must have the respective editing system. To solve this problem, the gist of the document must be preserved along with the document itself, and the process of handling the document must be standardized. Publishing on the web ensures a more stable and accurate result in processing documents. The significance of web publishing is made clear, when we consider the importance of information per se and the growing demand for immediate publication in the present day. The need for a simple and straightforward apache-based PDF publishing system, in which HTML and CSS are supported, and a converting engine provides PDF standard security application support, is prominent. This provides a library in which one can directly create a PDF via Windows, Linux, or Unix without having to rely on a client, allowing high-speed PDF creation. The development of a web-accessed PDF converting engine forms the basis for e-transactions, online brochures, electronic B/L, and many other industrial sectors.

  • This research aims at understanding the differences between expert and general users' perceptions regarding publication preferences for Korean classics collations and translations in order to formulate future directions for these materials. For this purpose, an overview of changes in publishing in general as well as current status of collation/translation of Korean classics in particular are being identified. An online questionnaire was carried out in order to collect data regarding perceptions and preferences of expert users and general users of Korean classics. The results are based on the analyses of more than 1,000 responses. The analyses show that electronic books will not completely replace printed books and publishing both electronic and printed books in tandem for the time being is most preferable in order to satisfy varying user needs. Statistical analysis shows differences in terms of use value, value from possession, and readability of electronic and printed books in the two groups of users. However, as for the value of preservation by relevant institutions, there was a statistical difference between two groups towards printed books unlike their electronic equivalents. The research shows strong preference towards printed forms of classics collations and translations for the purpose of scholarly research and translation. Actual usage statistics reveal much heavy use of online database of classics translations compared to the use of available electronic books. For future publishing decisions for classics collations and translations will need to take into consideration of their special characteristics and symbolic nature. Proper representation of these materials into electronic format would require a standardized platform that enable various uses in different environments.

And, the cost of delivering an electronic version to end-users were more expensive. 2. More sophisticated markup software and display software system are needed for fully structured text versions of articles. 3. Coordination of effort is essential in order that we maximize the end-users access requirements against resonable protection for the intellecture effort of the scholarly writer. 4. The success of an electronic journals will depend on the improved communication and cooperation between libraries, users, author, publishers, and information technology specialists. • The study on the critical success factors (CSF) for electronic commerce systems has been a hot topic in both academe and industry. On the basis of reviewing papers on CSF and analyzing their problems, this paper designs the initial assessment indictors and website features and functions influencing EC success. Using Delphi survey and data analysis, we get the five important assessment indictors and seven important web features and functions. Furthermore, the hypothesis of CSF model is proposed. Finally, we conduct a survey on the Chinese Publishing Industry to test the hypothesis. The result shows that the hypothesis is partly supported, which means useful and understandable information, complete and timely information, credible and accurate information, all product-related information are the critical success factors for EC publishing industry. This research not only impels EC research in China, but also has instructional effect on the implementation of EC for enterprises to increase the success rate of EC.

  • Scholarly communication plays a significant role in the development and dissemination of research outputs in library and information science (LIS). This study presents findings from a survey which examines the key attributes that characterize the publishing by Pakistani LIS scholars, i.e. academics and professionals, in national journals. A pilot-tested, electronic questionnaire was used to collect the data from the target population. 104 respondents (or 69.3% of target) provided feedback on areas such as number of articles published, number of citations, and the nature of any collaboration with other authors. The findings of this survey revealed that, among the various designated regions of Pakistan, the Punjab region was the most highly represented. In articles published in national journals, there was a clear preference among all respondents to collaborate with at least one other author. The citation metrics for LIS articles in national journals were relatively low (30.22%), which aligns with Scimago’s Journal and Country Rankings. The uptake of social scholarly networks mirrors international trends. Respondents were asked to score factors which could impact negatively on their ability to undertake research and/or publish the results. The study recommends that concerned stakeholders work together, as appropriate, to address concerns. In addition, it recommends that further research be undertaken to define patterns of Pakistani co-authorship in the social sciences.

An electronic book has marked its birth, sending out the contents of a book in digital and not using paper books but tile exclusive terminal. As far as systems are concerned, reading and publishing are going the separate ways is kind of impediments should be overcome by introducing the on-line order and sales service and constituting a network interworking service which delivers digital book contents on-line. This paper concerned the book publishing mode which would help to overcome the impediments. The last system is the one with broadcasting and communication as well as computers and the Internet mixed in a very complex way.
