Characteristics Analysis of the Ballast for HID Lamps According to Cable Length (케이블 길이에 따른 HID 램프용 안정기의 특성분석)

  • In this paper, we analyzed and measured the characteristics of the ballasts for HID lamps according to the cable properties. The ignition voltage and the steady state voltage and current are depend on the feature and the length of the cables. So we measured characteristics at 25[m] and 100[m] distances used by a low frequency electronic ballast a high frequency electronic ballast and a magnetic ballast. By measured and analyzed result of characteristics for various kinds of ballast and cables, we concluded that the electronic ballast driving with the low frequency is better than my other ballasts, and that the capacitance between the cables is important.

  • To recently, light of the sun and fuel cell etc. which is new and renewable energy is developed with the direct current energy source mostly. And it is necessary that the utilization plan which does supply it properly. In this case, the direct current illumination system can be a typical alternative of it. The system similar to the development system is composed of type which connects to each other the photovoltaic pannel, the charge kit, and the battery bank. I develop all-in-one system which the power supply system and photovoltaic pannel which can charge and use efficiently. Additionally, I exploit the DC lamp module of three wave which can separate the electronic ballasts from the module. Developed the DC Lamp module of all-in-one which can turn on or can turn off, by operation of ON/OFF button. It can be used semipermanently by changing just only electronic ballasts.

  • This paper deals with the analysis of the electronic ballast which is based on half-bridge type series inverters. First, design basis was described for the determination of the values, L and C. Next, the operation of the electronic ballast was analyzed theoritically. Finally. the digital simulations and experiments were carried out to prove the obtained theoritical results.

  • In recent years, various power factor correction(PFC) circuits for the electronic ballasts have been proposed. In this paper, we have studied several passive PFC and compared with their characteristics, used in the electronic ballast for fluorescent. Especially, Improved Valley Fill Circuit (IVF) and the circuit IVF PFC combined with Charge Pumping Capacitors(CPCs) have been reaserched for High Power Factor. In conclusion, we have researched characteristics of Passive PFC and proposed the most effective PFC method.

  • There are many articles about the HID lamps about it's characteristics and simulation methods for lamps design or ballast design. For the eletronic ballasts of HID lamps, There are some problems caused by acoustic resonance which destabilizes the arc of HID lamps. So, some studies suggest the methods to avoid it. For example, the methods to avoid it. For example, the methods suggested are high frequency driving over 100kHz, and mixed frequency driving which alternates high frequency and low frequency, and square wave driving etc. This study suggests the electronic ballast of HID lamps which solves the problems of acoustic resonance, and which can control the luminance by constant current boosted chopper of which frequency is 30kHz and by the sqarewave driving of which frequency is 55.5Hz. As follows, we have the good eletronic ballast for HID lamps which has the characteristics of a light weight, and a function of luminance control and a high quality luminosity and which saves electrical energy.

  • This paper proposed the voltage compulsion method that used chopper for light dimming control of fluorescent lamp. During the dimming period, electronic ballasts have the bad characteristics such as low power factor, high THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) and etc. The proposed dimmer improves power factor, THD of electronic ballast and has benefit such as low cost, simple build up.

  • Today there is an ever increasing effort to control high-pressure discharge lamps with electronic ballasts. HID lamps can be ignited by high-voltage pulses and need an ignitor to start them. An ignitor gives high-voltage pulses to HID lamps, which have the type of the arc discharge. Two kinds of ignitor circuits have been analyzed by the P-spice program and we have shown experimental results in this paper. The result of this study seems to be able to help to develope various ignitors.

  • In recent years, various power factor correction(PFC) circuits for the electronic ballast have been proposed. And these circuits have difference characteristics each other. We have researched several PFC circuits of them. And operational principles and characteristics of PFC circuits are compared by the cost and the electrical performance. Finally, we established the reference for the evaluation of PFC circuits with performance and the price.
