Boron nitride films were synthesized with $N_2$ion flux of low energy, up to 100 eV, at different substrate temperatures of no heating, 200, 400, 500, and $800^{\circ}C$, respectively. Boron was supplied by e-beam evaporation at the rate of $1.5\AA$/sec. For all the conditions, hexagonal BN (h-BN) phase was mainly synthesized and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) showed that (002) planes of h-BN phase were aligned vertical to the Si substrate. The maximum alignment occurred around $400^{\circ}C$. In addition to major h-BN phase, transmission electron diffraction (TED) rings identified the formation of cubic BN (c-BN) phase. But HRTEM showed no distinct and continuous c-BN layer. These results suggest that c-BN phase may form in a scattered form even when h-BN phase is mainly synthesized under small momentum transfer by bombarding ions, which are not reconciled with the macro compressive stress model for the c-BN formation.
The electronic structures of Al/RbF/tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminium ($Alq_3$) and $Al/CaF_2/Alq_3$interfaces were investigated using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). For both systems, the UPS showed a significant valence band shift following the deposition of the thin fluoride layers on $Alq_3$. However, the formation of gap state in valence region and the extra peak N 1s core level spectra showed different trends, suggesting that the alkali fluoride and alkali-earth fluoride interlayer have different reaction mechanisms at the interface between Al cathode and $Alq_3$. In addition, the deposition of Al has considerably less effect on the valence band shift compared to the deposition of both RbF and $CaF_2$. These results suggest that the charge transfer across the interface and the resulting gap state formation may have lesser effect on the enhancement of organic light-emitting device performance than the observed valence band shift, which is thought to lower the electron injection barrier.

The inhibition ability of N,N-bis(2,4-dihydroxyhydroxybenzaldehyde)-1,3-Propandiimine (DHBP) as a schiff base against the corrosion of API-5L-X65 steel in 1 M HCl solution was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization and scanning electron microscopy. Electrochemical impedance studies indicated that DHBP inhibited corrosion by blocking the active corrosion sites. The inhibition efficiency increased with increasing inhibitor concentrations. EIS data was analysed to equivalent circuit model and showed that the charge transfer resistance of steel increased with increasing inhibitor concentration whilst the double layer capacitance decreased. The adsorption of this compound obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Gibbs free energy of adsorption was calculated and indicated that adsorption occurred through physical and spontaneous process. The corrosion inhibition mechanism was studied by potential of zero charge. Polarization studies indicated that DHBP retards both the cathodic and anodic reactions through adsorption on steel surface. Scanning electron microscopy was used to study the steel surface with and without inhibitor.

In this study, we prepared red organic light-emitting-diode(OLED) with a fluorescent dye(Sq)-doped and inserted between emission and cathode layer 1,3-bis(5-p-t-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)benzene (OXD7) or/and tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum ($Alq_3$) layers for increasing electroluminescent(EL) efficiency. This inserting effect has been observed and EL mechanism characteristics have been examined. The hole transfer layer is a N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis-(3-methyl phenyl)-1,1'-diphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD), and the host and guest materials of emission layer is $Alq_3$ and bis[1-methyl-3,3'-dimethyl-2-indorindiylmethyl] squaraine (Sq), respectively. For the inserting of $Alq_3$, emission efficiency increased. But we can not obtained highly pure red emission owing to the emission of inserting $Alq_3$ layer. The inserting of OXD7 makes hole block and accumulate. Because of increasing recombination probability of electron and hole, highly pure red color can be held. Simultaneously brightness characteristics and emission efficiency could improve.
The micro emulsion method has been successfully used for preparing perovskite LaCoO3 with uniform, fine-shaped nanoparticles showing high activity as electro catalysts in oxygen reduction reactions (ORRs). They are, therefore, promising candidates for the air-cathode in metal-air rechargeable batteries. Since the activity of a catalyst is highly dependent on its specific surface area, nanoparticles of the perovskite catalyst are desirable for catalyzing both oxygen reduction and evolution reactions. Herein, LaCoO3 powder was also prepared by sol-gel method for comparison, with a broad particle distribution and high agglomeration. The electro catalytic properties of LaCoO3 and LaCoO3-carbon Super P mixture layers toward the ORR were studied comparatively using the rotating disk electrode technique in 0.1 M KOH electrolyte to elucidate the effect of carbon Super P. Koutecky-Levich theory was applied to acquire the overall electron transfer number (n) during the ORR, calculated to be ~3.74 for the LaCoO3-Super P mixture, quite close to the theoretical value (4.0), and ~2.7 for carbon-free LaCoO3. A synergistic effect toward the ORR is observed when carbon is present in the LaCoO3 layer. Carbon is assumed to be more than an additive, enhancing the electronic conductivity of the oxide catalyst. It is suggested that ORRs, catalyzed by the LaCoO3-Super P mixture, are dominated by a 2+2-electron transfer pathway to form the final, hydroxyl ion product.

Amphiphilic graft copolymer from poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) was synthesized using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) for composite nanofiltration membranes. Direct initiation of the secondary fluorinated site of PVDF facilitates grafting of tert-butyl methacrylate (tBMA). Amphiphilic PVDF-g-PMAA graft copolymer with a 51:49 wt ratio was obtained by hydrolyzing poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) (PtBMA) to poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA). Wide angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) confirmed the decrease of crystallinity of PVDF upon graft copolymerization. Composite nanofiltration membranes were prepared from PVDF-g-PMAA as a top layer coated onto PVDF ultrafiltration (UF) support membrane. The morphology and hydrophilicity of membranes were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and contact angle measurement. The rejections of composite membranes were 80.2% for $Na_2SO_4$ and 28.4% for NaCl, and the solution flux were 9.5 and $14.5\;L/m^2\;h$ at 1.0 MPa pressure.
In this study, we synthesized a new red emitting material of a Red225 doped into $Alq_3$ (tris(8-quinolinolato)aluminum (III)) and fabricated white organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with a simple device structure. With a blue emitting material of DPVBi (4,4'-bis(2,2'-diphenylvinyl)1,1'-biphenyl) that can transfer effectively both a hole and an electron, OLEDs with a narrow emission layer could be possible without a hole-blocking layer. Consequently, the driving voltage and stability of devices have been improved. The devices show the Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of (0.36, 0.35) at luminance of 2000 cd/$m^2$. The luminous efficiency is about 3.5 cd/A, luminance is about 12000 cd/$m^2$ and current density is about 350 mA/$cm^2$ at 12 V, respectively.
Sonoluminescence (SL) characteristics such as pulse shape, radiance and spectrum radiance from submicron bubbles were investigated. In this study, a set of analytical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for the gas inside bubble and equations obtained from mass, momentum and energy equations for the liquid layer adjacent the bubble wall were used to estimate the gas temperature and pressure at the collapse point, which are crucial parameters to determine the SL characteristics. Heat transfer inside the gas bubble as well as at the liquid boundary layer, which was not considered in the most of previous studies on the sonoluminescence was taken it into account in the calculation of the temperature distribution inside the bubble. It was found that bremsstrahlung is a very possible mechanism of the light emission from either micron or submicron bubbles. It was also found that the peak temperature exceeding $10^{6}$ K in the submicron bubble driven at 1 MHz and 4 atm may be due to the rapid change of the bubble wall acceleration near the collapse point rather than shock formation.
Electrochemical behavior of surface active Osmium bipyridine complex adsorbed in a monomolecular layer on tin oxide electrodes by the Langmuir-Blodgett method was studied. Theoretical equation of cyclic voltammetry of electrode reactions for redox species adsorbed as monolayer form was discussed by reversible and quasi-reversible waves. The film was transferred onto the $SnO_2$ electrode surface and then amounts of charge on the electrode were measured in the technique of cyclic voltammetry. The electron transfer mediation of these monolayer with $Fe^{2+}$, TEMPOL and others were studied. And the cyclic voltammetry were simulated by taking into account the interaction parameters. From these values, we found it possible to fit almost all measured cyclic voltammograms with these parameters. The recent works and directions using LB method were introduced with various applicable field.
A hemoglobin/silver nanoparticle heterolayer was fabricated for bioelectronic device with electrochemical signal-enhancement effect. As a device element, a hemoglobin, the metalloprotein, contained the heme group that showed the redox property was introduced for charge storage element. For electron transfer facilitation, a silver nanoparticle was introduced for electrochemical signal facilitation, the hemoglobin was immobilized onto Au substrate using chemical linker 6-mercaptohexanoic acid (6-MHA). Then, the silver nanoparticle was immobilized onto fabricated hemoglobin/6-MHA heterolayers by layer-by-layer (LbL) method. The surface morphology and surface roughness of fabricated heterolayer were investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The redox property of hemoglobin/silver nanoparticle heterolayer was investigated by a cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiment for obtaining an oxidation potential and reduction potential. Moreover, for the assessing charge storage function, a chronoamperometry (CA) experiment was conducted to hemoglobin/silver nanoparticle-modified heterolayer electrode using oxidation and reduction potentials, respectively. Based on the results, the fabricated hemoglobin/silver nanoparticle heterolayer showed that an increased charge storage effect compared to hemoglobin monolayer-modified electrode.
