  • The proposed paper presents an integrated linear actuator which combines Transverse Flux Linear Motor(TFLM) for Household elelctric applications. They both use the same primary magnetic circuit, but they have different secondary movers. The paper presents a new design of linear motor for a new electromagnetic linear actuator, an tintegrated TFLM. The calculated tthrust force is good agreement with experiments. We have studied a transient response of a linear actuator with a damping ratio, spring constant and specially a pressed power patterns for a constant stroke control.

  • In this study, we improved control performance of an EMV (electromechanical valve) system using a PM/EM (permanent magnet/electromagnet) hybrid EMA (electromagnetic actuator) and showed the feasibilities of both soft landing and fast transition of the EMV system using a simple PID control. The conventional EMV systems using only EM show significant nonlinear characteristics. Therefore, it is very difficult to control the valve position and several complex control schemes are used. This paper focused on the control performance improvement using a PM/EM hybrid actuator. In particular, a PM is used as a key design parameter such as a bias current of a magnetic bearing in order to improve the linear characteristic of the actuator, although most PM/EM hybrid actuators use a PM as a power saver during valve-open and -closed states. First, a FE (finite element) analysis was performed to confirm its linear static force characteristics. Then, both a test rig and a valve control system were built in order to prove experimentally the control performance improvement of the actuator. Finally, feasibilities of both soft landing and fast transition of the system were shown experimentally through gain-scheduled PID (proportional derivative integral) control.

  • The optical disc drive has used a high NA objective lens and a shorter wavelength laser diode for high recording density. But high NA and shorter wavelength cause several margins to become short. Focusing and tracking servo has to be more accurate and active tilt compensation mechanism is also needed for coma aberration compensation. In this paper, we proposed 3-axis moving magnet type actuator. For 3-DOF motion, moving coil actuator has to equip 6 wires for supplying 3 independent signals. However, moving magnet type actuator doesn't need to change the configuration of wires because coils are in stator. So, we added tilting mechanism to 2-axis moving magnet actuator which is designed in previous research. Addition of the tilting mechanism cuts down the focusing sensitivity. So, maximization the tilting sensitivity and securing the focusing sensitivity are objectivities of this research. DOE (design of experiments) procedures of electromagnetic circuit are performed for parameter study and the optimization is also performed to maximize the tilt sensitivity. And then the final design is suggested and its performance is verified by FE simulation.

  • An ElectroMagnetic Actuator (EMA) is designed and assessed numerically and experimentally. The EMA has the advantage to be without contact with the structure so it could be applied to light and small mechanism. Nevertheless, the open-loop instability and the nonlinear dynamic behavior with respect to the excitation frequency could limit its application field. The EMA is designed and dimensioned as a function of the experimental structure to be controlled. An inverse model of the EMA is proposed in order to implement a linear action block for the used frequency range. The control strategy is a fuzzy controller with displacements and velocities as inputs. A fuzzy controller of Takagi-Sugeno type is used. The air gap is estimated by using a modal approximation of the displacements issued from all measurements. Several configurations of control are assessed by using numerical simulations. The block diagram used for numerical simulations is implemented under Dspace$^{(R)}$ environment. The implemented controller was tested experimentally in the context of impact perturbations. The results obtained show the effectiveness of the developed procedures and the robustness of the implemented control.

  • This paper proposes a design optimization approach for core of solenoid actuators by combining optimization techniques with the finite element method (FEM). A solenoid is an important element part which hydraulically controls a transmission system, etc. The demanded feature of the solenoid is that it performs an electromagnetic force output being constant regardless of the stroke and being proportional to coil current. The plunger compresses a spring with a minimum force of 12 N over an 1.7 mm travel. The orthogonal array, analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques and response surface optimization, are employed to determine the main effects and their optimal design variables. The methodology is demonstrated as a optimization tool for the core design of a solenoid actuator.

  • Semiconductor piezoresistive type vibration sensor was fabricated by using semiconductor process and micromachining technology. To measure the micro electromagnetic force between coil and magnet, fabricated vibration sensor was used. Toapply micro electromagnetic force produced from the micro exciter, small-sized NdFeB permanent magnet was attached on the mass of the fabricated vibration sensor. The measured electromagnetic force are about 5~180dyne when the applied sinusoidal current of 1KHz in the range of 1.5~8mA. The measurement of micro electromagnetic forcewas performed by changing the distance between coil and magnet. Output characteristics of micro electromagnetic force according to the applied coil current were linear. Furthermore, output results were used to get the transfer constant that is important to decide the efficiency and the performance of the coil and magnet.

  • Refreshable Braille displays have already been developed in the past, but they remain quite bulky and expensive. Small displays contain only a single or a few Braille cells, with pins pushing into the fingertips. However, they are not as successful as larger displays because the skin is more sensitive to lateral movement than to orthogonal pressure. This, paper presents the design of linear electromagnetic actuators, which allows a considerable reduction in size and cost for such refreshable Braille displays. Different actuator concepts are compared. A new actuator is proposed and optimised by means of finite element simulations, which are verified with measurements on a prototype.

  • In this paper, we address an active vibration control system, which suppresses the vibration engaged by magnetically levitated stage. The stage system consists of a levitating platen with four permanent magnetic linear synchronous motors in parallel. Each motor generates vertical force for suspension against gravity and propulsion force horizontally as well. This stage can generate six degrees of freedom motion via the vertical and horizontal forces. In the stage system, which represents the settling-time critical system, the motion of the platen vibrates mechanically. We designed an active vibration control system for suppressing vibration due to the stage moving. The command feedforward with inertial feedback algorithm is used for solving stage system's critical problems. The components of the active vibration control system are accelerometers for detecting stage tables's vibrations, a digital controller with high precise signal converters. and electromagnetic actuators.
