  • A new type of high precision electromagnetic suspension (EMS) which can support heavy tray along long stroke rail is proposed in this paper. Compared with the conventional EMS, the suggested moving-core typed EMS has the levitation electromagnets (EMs) on the fixed rail. This scheme has high load capability caused by iron-core and enables simple tray structure. Also it does not have precision degradation caused by heat generation from EMs, which is a drawback of conventional EMS. With these merits, the proposed EMS can be an optimal contactless linear bearing in next generation flat panel display (FPD) manufacturing process if the ability of long stroke movement is proved. So a special Section Switching Algorithm (SSA) is derived from the resultant force and moment equations of the levitated tray which enables long stroke movement of the tray. In order to verify the feasibility of the suggested SSA, a simple test-setup of the EMS with 2 Section-changes is made up and servo-controlled in the simulation and experiment. The simulation shows the perfect changeover the EMs, and the experiment shows overall control performance of under ${\pm}40{\mu}m$ gap deviations. These results reveal that the newly suggested contactless linear bearing can simultaneously achieve high load capability and precision gap control as well as long stroke.

  • A power amplifier for subgigahertz short-range wireless communication using $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology is presented. It is designed as a differential structure to form easily a virtual ground node, to increase output power, and to design a cascode structure to prevent breakdown. The transistor gate width was determined to maximize the output power and power-added efficiency(PAE), and the balun was optimized through electromagnetic simulation to minimize the loss caused by the matching network. This power amplifier had a gain of more than 49.5 dB, a saturation power of 26.7 dBm, a peak PAE of 20.7 % in the frequency range of 860 to 960 MHz, and a chip size of $2.14mm^2$.

  • Crack instability propagation during coal and rock mass failure is the main reason for electromagnetic radiation (EMR) generation. However, original cracks on coal and rock mass are hard to study, making it complex to reveal EMR laws and mechanisms. In this paper, we prefabricated cracks of different inclinations in coal and rock samples as the analogues of the native cracks, carried out uniaxial compression experiments using these coal and rock samples, explored, the effects of the prefabricated cracks on EMR laws, and verified these laws by measuring the surface potential signals. The results show that prefabricated cracks are the main factor leading to the failure of coal and rock samples. When the inclination between the prefabricated crack and axial stress is smaller, the wing cracks occur first from the two tips of the prefabricated crack and expand to shear cracks or coplanar secondary cracks whose advance directions are coplanar or nearly coplanar with the prefabricated crack's direction. The sample failure is mainly due to the composited tensile and shear destructions of the wing cracks. When the inclination becomes bigger, the wing cracks appear at the early stage, extend to the direction of the maximum principal stress, and eventually run through both ends of the sample, resulting in the sample's tensile failure. The effect of prefabricated cracks of different inclinations on electromagnetic (EM) signals is different. For samples with prefabricated cracks of smaller inclination, EMR is mainly generated due to the variable motion of free charges generated due to crushing, friction, and slippage between the crack walls. For samples with larger inclination, EMR is generated due to friction and slippage in between the crack walls as well as the charge separation caused by tensile extension at the cracks' tips before sample failure. These conclusions are further verified by the surface potential distribution during the loading process.

  • It is generally well-known that the inevitable high power electromagnetic wave affects the malfunction and disorder of electronic equipments and serious damages in electronic communication systems. Hence, it is necessary to take measures against high power electromagnetic(HPEM) wave for protecting electronic devices as well as human resources. The topological analysis based on Baum-Liu-Tesche(BLT) equation simplifying the moving path of electromagnetic and the observation points and Power Balance Method(PWB) employing statistical electromagnetic analysis are introduced to analyze relatively electrically large cavity with little time consumption. In addition to the PWB method, full wave results for cylindrical cavity with apertures and incident plane wave are presented for comparison with time-consumption rate according to the cavity size.

  • From the dispersion relation of an electromagnetic (EM) wave propagating through plasmas, w$\^$2/ = w$\sub$p/$\^$2/+c$\^$2/k$\^$2/ the phase velocity (w/k) of the wave is large at high density where w$\sub$p/ is large, and small at low density Therefore, when a laser pulse is located on a downward density gradient of a plasma wave, the phase velocity of the back of the pulse becomes faster than that of the front of the pulse and the pulse wavelength decreases. • Recently, the need for subminiature storage systems has increased with the diversification of portable devices. An actuator for small optical disk drives has to satisfy performance requirements such as higher access speed, lower power consumption, and smaller size. In this paper, we proposed the miniaturized rotary type VCM actuator that had an effective focusing mechanism and secured sufficient bandwidth for small form factor (SFF) optical disk drive (ODD). Initial model was designed by electromagnetic (EM) and structural analyses. Such a model was improved using design of experiments (DOE) procedure based on a Blu-ray disk (BD) 1x specifications.

  • We designed an antenna structure with the circular polarization metamaterial superstrate which increases the directivity of the primary antenna as a lens. The metamaterial superstrate removes the necessity of the array antenna and complicated feed. Plus, it provides the Fabry-perot cavity with the circular polarization. With regard to the primary antenna, a CRLH antenna is adopted to have the size-reduction from the conventional half-wavelength patch antenna.

  • In this paper, electromagnetic wave scattering from a bianisotropicaly coated cylinder is formulated by using wave functions for bianisotropic media and boundary-value method. The cross section of the cylinder is made of a conducting core, a lossless dielectric layer which is both electrically magnetically bianisotropic, and a bianisotropic impedance sheet and a different uniaxial bianisotrpic coating. The solutions to arbitrary polarization angles are presented in two-dimensional. This paper presents and exact solution to the problem of scattering by a long composite circular cylinder using the boundary method. The validity of this solution is verified by comparing numerical results with those in literature. The numerical results for various geometrical and electrical parameters on bistatic scattering cross-section are presented.

  • In this article, new microstrip slow-wave bandpass filters using open loop resonator loaded with inter-digital capacitive fingers is proposed. The filter features not only compact in size, but also exhibits spurious stop-band rejection. Filters of this type with elliptic function and Chebyshev response are demonstrated. There is good agreement between experimental and full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulation results.

  • The state of the art for the design of swing ann actuators for optical disc drives is to obtain the high efficient dynamic characteristics, especially for the small size for the mobile information devices, It is affected by the need of consumers who wants the portable digital storage devices maintaining highly functional and removable characteristics of the optical disk drive (ODD). As a necessary consequence, the need of the small form factor (SFF) storage device has been considered as an important part in the information storage technology. In this paper. we suggest a new conceptual miniaturized swing arm type actuator that has high efficient dynamic characteristics as well as satisfies the sensitivity and the heat emission requirements for the SFF-ODD. It also uses a tracking electromagnetic (EM) circuit for a focusing motion. Due to the size constraint, the thermal problem of optical head arises; therefore, we design an efficiently heat emitted structure for the actuator.
