  • Axial magnetic field(AMF) type electrode can increase the interrupting capability of vacuum interrupters. But, this interrupting capability vary with design parameters such as shape of electrode, slits of contact, material of contact and so on. In this paper, shown arc characteristics of unipolar axial magnetic field type electrode for vacuum interrupter by design parameters such as shape of contact slits and diameter of contact. And, confirmed vacuum arc configuration by individual design parameter using high speed camera.

  • One of the most important issues in AC PDP is the improvement of luminous efficiency. One possible method for achieving this aim is by increasing Xe partial pressure in discharge gas mixture. The increase of Xe ratio, however, causes the driving voltage to rise, even if brightness is increased. In this study, a new electrode shape is proposed. A test panel fabricated by using a new electrode shows that efficacy has improved by 25 % and sustain voltage has decreased by 20 % compared with the conventional structure.

  • Forging operations are non-stationary processes occurring because of indirect pressure, generally, under conditions of three-dimensional stress and deformation. Furthermore, due to friction and the constraints of die geometry, deformation is not homogeneous. Material flow and deformation are largely determined by the shape of the tools. It is well known that net-shape forging can improve the mechanical strength of the final product as well as reduce material waste. Oxygen-free copper that is used for electrical and electronic components has excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. Oxygen-free copper parts have a low productivity in cutting process. Thus, the forging process is performed in order to improve the low productivity in cutting process. The forging of oxygen-free copper for electrode body parts was modeled using finite element simulation and forging experiments that were conducted for producing electrode body parts at room temperature. In order to reduce the cost of cutting products, the forging was performed in a closed cavity to obtain near-net or net-shape parts.

  • The relationships between discharge characteristics and sustain electrode shape are studied in AC PDP by calculating the electric field and measuring discharge voltage, luminance and current. The maximum electric field is obtained for the triangle shape electrode. It is 1.8 times larger than uniform electric field type. It has been shown thatthe firing voltage is largely affected by the degree of electric field concentration. But, as the difference of the maximum and minimum value of electric field in a cell increases, the luminance and luminance efficiency decrease. And, the charge variation during discharge is proportional to the area of electrode.

  • In this paper, we investigated $\phi-q-n$ distribution to inquire discharge characteristic according to variation of electrode. Also, we investigated Weible distribution of discharge number using Weible analysis to search the relationship between a part discharge and shape of electrode. We increased voltage 1[kV] AC 60[Hz] of impressed voltage, data is acquired a generating discharge for 10 seconds after impressing voltage. Also, as we repeated the experiment 10 times at same condition, analyzed foible using data except for maximum and minimum. As the result, we confirmed that discharge generating and discharge quantity were significantly increased narrowing radius of electrode, also discharge frequency was close to shape of a standard distribution.

  • This study analyzes the effect of anodizing conditions on nanopore formation on a cylindrical aluminum roll. In general, a nanopore is formed at the center of a concave base-pattern. Occasionally, multiple nanopores are formed on a single base-pattern. However, to control the diameter and interpore distance precisely, single nanopores are required. In this study, the ratio of the number of single nanopores to the total number of nanopores was investigated by varying anodizing conditions such as electrode area, electrolyte concentration, and rotation speed of the roll mold. The areal ratio of the counter-electrode to the working electrode (aluminum), electrolyte concentration, and the roll-mold rotation speed were varied from 0.4% to 42%, 0.07 M to 0.3 M, and 5 rpm to 75 rpm, respectively. The experimental results showed that the single-nanopore ratio increased with increasing counter-electrode area and electrolyte concentration. However, the rotation speed had no significant effect on nanopore shape.

  • Existing cooling technologies no longer provide adequate heat dissipation due to excessive heat generation caused by the growing component density on electronic devices. An ionic gas pump can be used for the thermal management of micro-electronic devices, since the size of pump can be reduced to a micrometer scale. In addition, the gas pump allows for gas flow control and generation without moving parts. This ideal property of gas pump gives rise to a variety of applications. However, all these applications require maximizing the wind velocity of gas pump. In this study a barrier discharge type gas pump, with a needle-shaped corona electrode instead of a plate-shaped corona electrode, has been investigated by focusing on the corona electrode shape on the wind velocity and wind generation yield. As a result, the enhanced wind velocity and wind generation yield of 1.76 and 3.37 times were obtained with the needle-shaped corona electrode as compared with the plate-shaped corona electrode of the proposed barrier discharge type gas pump.

  • In manufacturing a micro die with half spherical cavity by MEDM, it is necessary to prepare an electrode with the same shape. This paper suggests a simple method to manufacture a half spherical electrode based on tool wear. The tool wears more rapidly at the edge of a cylindrical electrode. In order to make a half spherical micro electrode, cylindrical electrode was fed into the workpiece by the distance of its radius. The d/R(depth/Radius) value varied with respect to capacitance and electrode diameter. The smaller the size of electrode was, the closer the electrode tip geometry approached to a half sphere.

  • A solid state Hg(Au)/HgO reference electrode was prepared utilizing gold amalgam solid particles. Solid fine powder of the gold amalgam was prepared by chemical reduction of Au(III) with NaBH4 followed by reduction of Hg(II) in the presence of gold fine particles. The solid content in the suspension of the gold amalgam particles and fine mercury oxide particles in DMF containing PVC was precipitated by the addition of a large amount of water to give solid Hg(Au)/HgO/PVC mixture. After drying, the mixture was pressure-molded to a physically stable Hg(Au)/HgO composite reference electrode material. The electrochemical characteristics of the electrode as a reference electrode were very similar to an ordinary Hg/HgO reference electrode. The electrode material can be molded and fabricated in any desired shape and size. The surface can be renewed by a simple polishing process whenever contaminated or deactivated. The applicability of the electrode in the electrochemical detection of carbohydrates after anion exchange separation was evaluated.

  • It is difficult to control welding variables during spot welding of non-ferrous metals like aluminum because of the low electrical resistance of the material. It has been suggested that a solid state welding process such as friction stir spot welding or extru-spot welding can be used to spot weld aluminum plates. In the extru-spot welding, there is a need to increase the weld strength by improving the shape of the welding die. The current study shows that the weld strength for an extru-spot welding can be increased by using a pin placed on the inside of the upper electrode in the welding die. In the current study, the deformed shape of the insert rivet and the stress distribution in the welding zone were analyzed by simulation. Extru-rivet spot welding experiments were performed by changing the height of pin on the inside of the upper electrode. From the experimental result, it is shown that the weld strength for an extru-rivet spot welding can be increased by adjusting the height of the pin. The optimal shape of the deformed rivet after the extru-rivet spot welding can be observed from the simulation results. The deformed shape of the insert rivet can also be controlled by the height of pin.
