Analysis of the Influence of Electrical Discharge Machining Parameters on Surface Roughness of CK45

  • Electrical discharge machining is an unconventional machining process in which successive sparks applied to machine the electrically conductive materials. Any changes in electrical discharge machining parameters lead to the pieces with distinct surface roughness. The electrical discharge machining process is well applied for high hardness materials or when it is difficult to use traditional techniques to do material removing. Furthermore, this method is widely applied in industries such as aerospace, automobile, molding, and tool making. CK45 is one of the important steels in industrial and electrical discharge machining can be considered as a proper way for its machining because of high hardness of CK45 after thermal operation of the electrical discharge machining process. Optimization of surface roughness as an output parameters as well as electrical discharge machining parameters including current, voltage and frequency for electrical discharge machining of CK45 has been studied using copper tools and kerosene as the dielectric. For such a purpose and to achieve the precise statistical analysis of the experiment results design of experiment was applied while non linear regression method was chosen to assess the response of surface roughness. Then, the results were analyzed by means of ANOVA method and machining parameters with more effects on the desired outputs were determined. Finally, mathematical model obtained for surface roughness.

  • In this research, the mechanism of micro-ECM was investigated with potentiodynamic method and the optimal condition for micro-ECM was selected by voltage-current-time curve with potentiostatic method. From the experimental result. it was confirmed that anodic voltage curve could be used very effectively for determining the optimal condition of micro-ECM, and the micro part which has extremely fine surface could be fabricated by use of micro-ECM with point electrode method.

미세 유동채널의 전기화학적 가공 파라미터 최적화를 위한 어닐링 시뮬레이션에 근거한 인공 뉴럴 네트워크에 관한 연구 (Research on ANN based on Simulated Annealing in Parameter Optimization of Micro-scaled Flow Channels Electrochemical Machining)

  • 논문에서는 어닐링 시뮬레이션에 근거한 인공 뉴럴 네트워크를 구축한다. 미세 유동채널의 전기화학적 가공 파라미터와 채널 형태 간의 매핑은 샘플의 학습에 의하여 이루어진다. 스텐리스강 표면에 대한 미세 유동채널의 전기화학적 가공의 깊이와 넓이가 예측되고, 형성된 네트워크 모델을 입증하기 위한 NaNO3 해 내부의 펄스 전원공급기와 함께 유동채널의 실험이 진행된다. 결과적으로, "4-7-2" 구조를 갖는 인공 뉴럴 네트워크에 의한 어닐링 시뮬레이션으로 예측된 채널의 깊이와 넓이는 실험값에 매우 근접한다. 그 오차는 5.3% 미만이다. 예측된 데이터와 실험 데이터는 전기화학적 가공 과정에서의 에칭 규격이 전압 및 전류의 밀도와 매우 밀접한 관계가 있음을 보여준다. 전압이 5V보다 작을 때에는 채널 내에 "작은 섬"이 형성된다; 반면에 전압이 40V보다 클 때에는 채널의 측면 에칭이 비교적 크고 채널 사이의 "댐"은 사라지게 된다. 전압이 25V일 때 채널의 가공 형태는 최적이 된다.

  • Micro Electrochemical Machining(Micro ECM) has traditionally been used in highly specialized fields such as those of the aerospace and defense industries. It is now increasingly being applied in other industries where parts with difficult-to-cut material, complex geometry and tribology such as compute. hard disk drive(HDD) are required. Pulse Electrochemical Micro-machining provides an economical and effective method for machining high strength, high tension, heat-resistant materials into complex shapes such as turbine blades of titanium and aluminum alloys. Usually aluminum alloys are used bearings to hard disk drive in computer. In order to apply aluminum alloys to bearing used in hard disk drive, this paper presents the characteristics of Micro ECM for aluminum alloy.

텅스텐 미세 전극을 이용한 전해 가공 (Electrochemical Machining Using Tungsten Microelectrode)

  • The feasibility of electrochemical drilling and milling on stainless steel are investigated using tungsten microelectrode with $10{\mu}m$ in diameter. For the development of environmentally friendly and safe electrochemical process, citric acid solution is used as electrolyte. A few hundred nanoseconds duration pulses are applied between the microelectrode and work material for dissolution localization. Tool fracture by Joule heating, micro welding, capillary phenomenon, tool wandering by the generated bubbles are observed and their effects on micro ECM are discussed. Occasionally, complex textures including micro pitting corrosion marks appeared on the hole inner surface. Metal growth is also observed under the weak electric conditions and it hinders further dissolutions for workpiece penetration. By adjusting appropriate pulse and chemical conditions, micro holes of $37{\mu}m$ in diameter with $100{\mu}m$ in depth and 26Jim in diameter with $50{\mu}m$ in depth are drilled on stainless steel 304. Also, micro grooves with $18{\mu}m$ width and complex micro hand pattern are machined by electrochemical milling.

  • With the development of micro machining, it becomes an important part to fabricate an electrode which has tens of ${\mu}m$ or less. There are two methods to get a narrow hole; non-contact type such as EDM(Electro-discharge machining) and contact type such as punching. A punch which has a tapered shape with a cylindrical tip is fabricated in this paper. To make this punch, a method which was used to fabricate a cylindrical shape by electrochemical process was applied. The control factors for the shape and their limits are verified through an experiment.

  • Micro-machining, one of the non-traditional machining techniques, can achieve a wanted shape of the surface using metal dissolution with electrochemical reaction and can be applied to the metal such as high tension, heat resistance and hardened steel. The workpiece dissolves when it is positioned close to the tool electrode in electrolyte and the current is applied. Traditional machining has been used in the industries such as cutting, deburring, drilling and shaping.
