To address mounting concerns over global warming, the Paris Agreement was reached in December 2015, which aims to limit the increase in global average temperature. South Korea has set a highly ambitious target to reduce emissions and submitted an Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC). Based on the INDC, we investigated the impact of limiting carbon emissions on the power system and the electricity market in Korea. Through detailed simulations on assumed plausible scenarios, this work highlights a) the effects of different carbon emission targets on the annual carbon emission volumes, generation costs, and carbon price; b) the generation mix changes induced by carbon emission limits; and c) the difference in system marginal price and payments for generator owners that carbon emission constraint creates in electricity markets under three different pricing rules.

The growth in global population and industrialization has led to an increasing demand for electricity. Accordingly, the electricity providers need to increase the electricity generation. Due to the economical and environmental concerns associated with the generation of electricity from fossil fuels. Alternative power recourses that can potentially mitigate the economical and environmental are of interest. Renewable energy resources are promising recourses that can participate in producing power. Among renewable power resources, solar energy is an abundant resource and is currently a field of research interest. Photovoltaic solar power is a promising renewable energy resource. The power output of PV systems is mainly affected by the solar irradiation and ambient temperature. this paper investigates the utilization of machine learning unsupervised neural network techniques that potentially improves the reliability of PV solar power systems during integration into the electrical grid.

There has been a significant growth in global population and industrialization, as a consequence demand for electricity is increasing rapidly and the power systems need to increase the electricity generation. Currently, most of generated electricity is generated from fossil fuels. However, there are many financial and environmental concerns associated with the generation of electricity from such resource. Photovoltaic )PV) solar as a renewable resource is promising. The power output of PV systems is mainly affected by the solar irradiation and ambient temperature. This paper attempts at reducing the burden and improving the accuracy of the extensive simulations related to integrating PV systems into the electrical grid.

The demand for energy in Thailand has been continually increasing as the economic and social country grows. Approximately 60% of Thailand's primary energy is imported, mostly petroleum products. In 2008 Thailand's total energy consumption was 80,971 ktoe and the net price of energy imported was up to 1,161 billion Baht which is equivalent to 12.8% of GDP at the current price. The energy consumption or energy demand has been growing at an annual compounded growth rate of 6.42% and the peak electric power demand and electricity consumption was recorded at 22,568 MW and 148,264 GWh and grew at a rate of 7.0% and 7.5% per annum during the period from 1989 to 2008. The gross agriculture production in 2008 was recorded at 135.4 Mt which represents agriculture residue for energy at 65.73 Mt, which is equivalent to energy potential of about 561.64 PJ or 13,292 ktoe an increase in average of 5.59% and 5.44% per year respectively. The agricultural residues can converted to 15,600 GWh/year or 1,780 MW of power capacity. So, if government sector plan to install small biomass gasification for electricity generation 200 kW for Community. The residue agricultural is available for 8,900 plants nationwide. The small biomass power generation for electricity generation not only to reduce the energy imports, it also makes the job and income for people in rural areas as well. This paper's aim is to report the energy situation in Thailand and has studied 5 main agricultural products with high residue energy potential namely sugarcane, paddy, oil palm, cassava, and maize appropriate for small electricity production. These agricultural products can be found planted in many rural areas throughout Thailand. Finally, discuss the situation, methods and policies which the government uses to promote small private power producers supplying electricity into the grid.
We develop a hybrid model which allows the change in electricity generation mix by adding the electricity-sector components of bottom-up model to the conventional CGE model. The electricity sector is represented as a sum of separate generation technologies, each of which has the form of DRTS (Decreasing Returns to Scale) production function, unlike the conventional CGE model. We compare the effects of the 30% emission reduction target using the hybrid model with those using the conventional CGE model. The cost of meeting the target is lower with the hybrid model than the conventional CGE. It is consistent with previous studies in that adding the bottom-up components to the top-down model reduces the cost of emission reduction. In an extra analysis we find that an additional regulation like RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standard) increases the cost.

The objectives of this study are to analyze the energy independence plan and to propose a suitable sewage treatment plant in Korea. The total amount of electricity consumption for public sewage treatment plant was estimated as 1,812 GWh in 2007. It was estimated that total 16 sewage treatment plants with renewable energy systems produced electricity of 15 GWh per year, which could replace 0.8% of total electricity used for sewage treatment. It was found that domestic sewage treatment plants with power generation plants by digestion gas were installed in 7 places and produced electricity of 13 GWh per year. It was also found that the power generation plants by digestion gas were the most cost-effective for sewage treatment plant out of the renewable energy systems based on the benefit-cost analysis.

A considerable cost gap between three major power generation technologies, namely nuclear, coal, and combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT), has been a well-established fact in the Korean electricity market. Alternatively, this paper analyzes the levelized costs of electricity (LCOE) of the three technologies reflecting overall social costs of electricity generation including accident risk, $CO_2$ emission, and air pollution damage. The paper unveils to what extent current discriminative subsidies on fuels regarding the social costs, mostly through tax exemptions, affect economic competitiveness of the technologies. In particular, it finds relative positions of coal and CCGT could be altered depending on appreciation level of the social costs. It has limits in analyzing fixed costs of the technologies, however, due to limited data availability of nuclear power, and suggests further studies on the issue.

Dust in the fabric production sites is increased by the static electricity in air which is generated in the manufacturing process. The static electricity is shown in inverse proportion to humidity of the production sites. The optimum humidity rate for the filament in the production process has been established as 65~75%. Where as, average humidity rate of production site is estimated as 40%. Therefore, it is necessary to raise the humidity rate by 30% to maintain appropriate humidity to control generation of static electricity and dust in the production sites. In this study, a new air-jet water sprayer was developed and it can produce $10{\mu}m$ sprayed particles. When the air-jet water sprayer was operated on the production site dust generation rate was shown far below the environmental standard. It is assumed that when the air jet sprayers was applied to 1,000 fabric machines of 5 gloves making plants, its productivity and rates of operation will be improved by value of about 2.5 billion Won a year.
It is easily can be expected that Korea cannot be free under the regulation, because Korea is one of the major $CO_2$ emitter in the world. Even though Korea currently doesn't have any obligation to mitigate the carbon emission, power industry needs to study the effect of that. this paper aims to analyze the change of economic loading order for generation dispatch by various carbon price, looking at each plant's or generator's variable generation cost per unit electricity(kWh) that consists of basic generation price calculated by automatic generation system planning model, WASP 4.0, and $CO_2$ price per unit electricity generation.

Cogeneration is the simultaneous generation of heat and electricity in a single unit, and is a highly energy-efficient technology compared to the independent generation of both products. Therefore, cogeneration has been widely introduced in many countries for use in industrial, commercial and residential applications. However, there have been few models with an output of less than 100 kilowatt. In the present study, a spark ignited gas engine with electric generation output of 10 kilowatts was developed for micro cogeneration package. The gas engine shows 26.7% of electric generation efficiency, NOx emission less than 10 ppm at 13% oxygen, 82 dB of Noise level, and about 3 seconds of switching time from idling to nominal power.
