  • The effect of forward and reverse electrostatic discharge (ESD) on the electro-optical characteristics of oxide vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers is investigated using a human body model for the purpose of understanding degradation behavior. Forward ESD-induced degradation is complicated, showing three degradation phases depending on ESD voltage, while reverse ESD-induced degradation is relatively simple, exhibiting two phases of degradation divided by a sudden distinctive change in electro-optical characteristics. We demonstrate that the increase in the threshold current is mainly due to the increase in leakage current, nonradiative recombination current, and optical loss. The decrease in the slope efficiency is mainly due to the increase in optical loss.

  • The relationship between the DC degradation characteristics of the ZnO varistor and the ambient sintering-process is investigated in this study. ZnO varistors made of Matsuoka's composition were fabricated by standard ceramic techniques. The ambient sintering-process is performed at the extraordinary electrical-furnace which is equipped with the vacuum system. The Gas of sintering process was oxygen, nitrogen, argon, air respectively. The microstructure of ZnO varistors be made use of SEM equipment. The condition of DC degradation tests were conducted at $115\pm2^{\circ}C$ for periods up to 13 h. Current-voltage analysis is used to determine nonlinear coefficients($\alpha$). Resistance-frequency and capacitance-frequency analysis are accomplished to the understanding of electrical properties as DC degradation test. From above analysis, it is found that the ZnO varistor sintered in oxygen atmosphere showed superior properties at the DC degradation test.

  • The remaining life estimation for the aged components in power plants as well as chemical plants are very important beacuse mechanical properties of the components are degraded with time of service exposure in high temperature. Since it is difficult to take specimens from the operating components to evaluate mechanical properties of components nondestructive techniques are needed to estimate the degradation. In this study, test materials with 4 different degradation levels were prepared by isothermal aging heat treatment at 630$\^{C}$. And the DC potential drop method and destructive methods such as tensile, K(sub)IC and hardness tests were used in order to evaluate the degradation of 1-Cr-1Mo-0.25V steels. The objective of this study is to investigate the possibility of the application of DCPD method to estimated the material degradation, and to analyse the relationship between the electrical relationship between the electrical resistivity and the degree material degradation.

  • In case of developing new motor, many examinations was tested to decide a motor efficiency and reliability. To give reliability judgment, traction motor winding insulation was tested by electrical method after appling electrical, heat, mechanical, environmental stress. In this study, stator form-wound winding of traction motor in urban transit E.M.U was tested by accelerative thermal degradation test. Stator form-wound winding was tested on the accelerative degradation composed of heat, vibration, moisture, overvoltage and researched insulation resistance, dielectric loss, partial discharge for insulation degradation properties, evaluated withstand voltage. Degradation temperature was $230[^\circ{C}]$, $250[^\circ{C}]$, $270[^\circ{C}]$, for stator form-wound winding respectively. On the test results of accelerative thermal degradation, insulation properties were relied all temperature until 10 times and expected life was evaluated by the rule of reducing $10[^\circ{C}]$ life into halves. Expected life was 31.8 years. It is guaranteed insulation reliability because of exceeding 25 years life times as considering.

  • The objective of this paper is to demonstrate degradation phenomena through DC degradation tests and predicts degradation phenomena as a function of time from the tests. The ZnO varistor used in this investigation were fabricated by standard ceramic techniques. Especial, these were sintered in nitrogen atmosphere, at 2 h, for $1300^{\circ}C$. The conditions of DC degradation test were 115$\pm$$2^{\circ}C$for 0, 2, 4, and 8 h, respectively. To demonstrate the degradation phenomena of ZnO varistors, Voltagecurrent analyses were performed before and after the degradation test, and frequency analyses were used with the time of the degradation tests. It was found that the degradation occurred in not grain but grain boundary and the degradation behavior of varistors was unsymmetrically degraded with the direction of tests.

  • In this paper, Neural Networks is studied for estimation of XLPE cable specimen according to degradation. And these data making use of a computer-aided discharge analyser, a combination of statistical and discharge parameter was calculated to discrimination processing stage of degradation. NN has not bad recognition rate result of discrimination for degradation stage because discharge characteristics are very similar to between degradation stage. So, there is some improvement for applied NN.

  • In this paper, degradation in field-aged PV modules including degradation of interconnect, discoloration of encapsulant and hot spot have been observed and analyzed. From the results, photovoltaic module installed for 6 years shows around 16 % drop of electrical properties due to the interconnect degradation and PV module passed 18 years has been found to drop of around 20 % mainly by the encapsulant discoloration. Furthermore the difference between low and high temperature of PV array at hot spot goes up to 3$0^{\circ}C$ and it leads to interconnect degradation. On the other hands, the temperature difference was observed to be around 15$^{\circ}C$ at the encapsulant discoloration spot of PV array.

  • The ferritic 2.25CrMo steel has been used for high temperature structure applications such as turbine rotors, boilers and pressure vessels in fossil plant and petroleum chemical facilities. However, this steel is known to result in aging degradation due to temper embrittlement, carbide induced brittleness and softening of matrix after long time exposure to high temperature. This research investigated the microstructural and mechanical changes after artificial degradation treatment and evaluated the degree of degradation by several nondestructive methods. The decrease of electrical resistivity and increase of magnetic Barkhausen noise(RMS voltage) with increasing aging time were observed. The change of electrical resistivity and Barkhausen noise showed a good correlation with the ductile-brittle transition temperature.
