  • In this paper, personal electrical stimulation medcial devices using bioelectrical stimulating was developed. Therapy effect of RET(resistive electric transfer) was more effective than CET(capacitive electric transfer), but CET was adopted because of safety issue. Then, the optimum parameters that may be effective in thin skin or facial wrinkles was set. For example, the frequency of the pulse voltage for stimulation is 1.8[MHz], burst frequency is 7[kHz] or 400[Hz], the development of devices was to have ON/OFF control and frequency control. When burst frequency was adjusted 7[kHz], heat was generated in the electrode. The case of 400[Hz] the heat was little generated. The microcontroller ATmega128-based experimental results show that the proposed personal high frequency electrical stimulation devices can be applied to medical equipment using therapy effect successfully.

  • Many manufacturing processes damage the structure of meat products and this often contributes to lipid oxidation which could influence warmed-over flavor (WOF) in precooked beef that is reheated beef. Electrical stimulation causes contraction of muscles and improves tissue tenderization. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the rate of lipid oxidation or warmed-over flavor that could be affected by electrical stimulation of precooked roast beef after refrigerated storage and reheating. The results show that there was no significant difference between chemical compositions and cooking yields when comparing non-electrically stimulated and electrically stimulated roast beef. Moreover, electrical stimulation had no significant effect on oxidative stability and off-flavor problems of precooked roast beef as evaluated by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and sensory test (warmed-over aroma and warmed-over flavor). However, there was an increased undesirable WOF and a decrease in tenderness for both ES and Non-ES treatments over refrigerated storage time. Electrical stimulation did cause reactions of amino acids or other compounds to decrease the desirable beef flavor in re-cooked meat.

  • Background and Objectives : Until now, various attempts have been made fir reinnervating paralyzed vocal cord. Nevertheless, the most cases did not produce satisfactory outcome due to occurrence of synkinesis of larynx secondary to misdirected axonal regeneration. Accordingly, the purpose of this investigation is to learn the effect of chronic electrical stimulation on regeneration of the recurrent laryngeal nerve. Material and Methods : Using 20 healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats(250-300g) with normal vocal functions, transections were made on their left recurrent laryngeal nerves and then primary anastomosis were performed under the operating microscope and they were divided into an experimental group and a control group each having 10 rats. After the procedure, for the experimental group, chronic electrical stimulation was carried out until vocal cord movement was functionally recovered. for the control group, only chronic electrical stimulation was not given. Result : In experimental group, the number of functionally recovered rats was two and in control group, that of functionally recovered rate was same. The reorganization of posterior cricoarytenoid muscle motoneuron in nucleus ambiguus appeared in the case of directed reinnervation of recurrent laryngeal nerve. Conclusion : The chronic electrical stimulation does not a direct beneficial effect on the early functional recovery in rats with injured recurrent laryngeal nerve.

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of electrical stimulation on femoral fracture healing in dogs. Eight healthy dogs from 4 to 5 $\beta^3$ were used in this experiment. In the treatment group, anode and cathode were connected to proximal and distal site apart from the fracture line by 2 cm and electrical stimulation was applied to the fracture site for l5minutes by 2 V, 25 Hz and for a month. The control group was connected to electrostimulator as the treatment group, but no electrical stimulation was applied. Various parameters were evaluated including radiograph and serum levels of total-ALP(TALP), bone-ALP(BALP) and osteocalcin. The radiography revealed more rapid callus formation in the treatment group than in the control by about a week. The total-ALP levels of the treatment group were higher than those of the control group from the 2nd to the 24th day(p< 0.05). The bone-ALP levels of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control from the 2nd to the 24th day(p< 0.05). The bone-ALP/ total-ALP ratios of the treatment group were higher than those of control throughout this experiment but there were no significance. There were no significance in the osteocalcin levels between two groups. In conclusion, the electrical stimulation on femoral fracture site was effective for bone healing in dogs.

  • The present study analyzed the association between postural control and electrical stimulation by measuring body sway when use the electrical stimulations were applied to different stimulation zones in lower limbs. The subjects were 14 young adults and were, tested for two different visual condition: eyes open and eyes closed. The experiments were also performed in two different stance case: one legged stance and two legged stance while electrical stimulations were applied concurrently or individually to tibialis anterior and triceps surae. Postural responses were assessed by analyzing COP sway path, sum of COP sway measured by a forceplate. The results showed that the direction of the COP shift changed in accordance with the direction of stimulation and showed sensory adaptation as the experiment progressed for two legged stance case. For one legged stance case, concurrent electrical stimulation both sides of muscles was found to be effective for enhancement of postural balance control.
