Organic nonlinear optical materials such as MNA(2-Methyl-4-nitro-aniline), Carbazole 1(5-Nitro-9-hydroxyethyl Carbazole), Carbazole 2(5-Nitro-9-ethyl Carbazole) and DR 1(Disperse Red 1) were incorporated into silica matrix to form a composite thin films. The thermal stability and degree of degradation were compared to these organic-inorganic composite film. Among those films, Carbazole 1 and DR 1 which have terminal -OH group showed enhanced stability for thermal degradation. The effect of polarization and degree of relaxation for the composite thin films incorporated with Carbazole 1 were measured by the absorbance change of UV spectra with time. With polarization treatment of Carbazole 1 incorporated composite film, the intensity of UV absorbance was remarkably reduced. And slow relaxation of Carbazole 1 molecule was suggested from the slightly recovered intensity of UV absorbance after removing the electric field at rooma temperature.
This study revealed the differences in runoff processes of granite drainage basins in Korea and Mongolia by hydrological measurements in the field. The experimental drainage basins are chosen in Korea (K-basin) and Mongolia (M-basin). Occurrence of intermittent flow in K-basin possibly implies that very quick discharge dominates. The very high runoff coefficient implies that most of effective rainfall quickly discharge by throughflow or pipeflow. The Hortonian overlandflow is thought to almost not occur because of high infiltration capacity originated by coarse grain sized soils of K- basin. Very little baseflow and high runoff coefficient also suggest that rainfall almost does not infiltrate into bedrocks in K-basin. Flood runoff coefficient in M-basin shows less than 1 %. This means that most of rainfall infiltrates or evaporates in M-basin. Runoff characteristics of constant and gradually increasing discharge imply that most of rainfall infiltrates into joint planes of bedrock and flow out from spring very slowly. The hydrograph peaks are sharp and their recession limbs steep. Very short time flood with less than 1-hour lag time in M-basin means that overland flow occurs only associating with rainfall intensity of more than 10 mm/hr. When peak lag time shows less than 1 hour for the size of drainage area of 1 to 10 km2, Hortonian overland flow causes peak discharge (Jones, 1997). The results of electric conductivity suggest that residence time in soils or weathered mantles of M-basin is longer than that of K-basin. Qucik discharge caused by throughflow and pipeflow occurs dominantly in K-basin, whereas baseflow more dominantly occur than quick discharge in M-basin. Quick discharge caused by Hortonian overlandflow only associating with rainfall intensity of more than 10 mm/hr in M-basin.

The $p-CdIn_2Te_4$ single crystal was grown in the three-stage vertical electric furnace by using Bridgman method. The quality of the grown crystal has been investigated by the x-ray diffraction and the photoluminescence measurements. From the Photoluminescence spectra of the as-grown $CdIn_2Te_4$ crystal and the various heat-treated crystals, the $(D^{o},X)$ emission was found to be the dominant intensity in the photoluminescence spectrum of the $CdIn_2Te_4:Cd$, while the $(A^{o},X)$ emission completely disappeared in the $CdIn_2Te_4:Cd$. However, the $(A^{o},X)$ emission in the photoluminescence spectrum of the $CdIn_2Te_4:Te$ was the dominant intensity like an as-grown $p-CdIn_2Te_4$ crystal. These results indicated that the $(D^{o},X)$ is associated with $V_{Te}$ acted as donor and that the $(A^{o},X)$ emission is related to $V_{Cd}$ acted as acceptor, respectively. The $p-CdIn_2Te_4$ crystal was found to be obviously converted into the n-type after annealing in the Cd atmosphere. The origin of $(D^{o},\;A^{o})$ emission and its TO Phonon replicas is related to the interaction between donors such as $V_{Te}$ or $Cd_{int}$, and accepters such as $V_{Cd}$ or $Te_{int}$. Also, the In in the $CdIn_2Te_4$ was confirmed not to form the native defects because it existed in the stable form of bonds.
BACKGROUND: Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with lower electric cost and the specific wavelength have been considering as a novel light source for plant production in greenhouse conditions as well as in a closed culture system. Supplementary lighting for day-length extension was considered as light intensity, light quality, and/or photoperiod control on plant growth and development. Effects of supplementary blue or red LED radiation with lower light intensity on growth of Ageratum (Ageratum houstonianum Mill., cv. Blue Field), African marigold (Tagetes erecta L., cv. Orange Boy), and Salvia (Salvia splendens F. Sello ex Ruem & Schult., cv. Red Vista) were discussed during sunrise and sunset twilight in the experiment. METHODS AND RESULTS: Supplementary lighting by blue and red LEDs for 30 (Treatment B30; R30) or 60 (Treatment B60; R60) min. per day were established in greenhouse conditions. Photosynthetic photon flux for supplementary radiation was kept at $15{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ on the culture bed. Natural condition without supplementary light was considered as a control. The highest shoot and root dry weights were shown in African marigold exposed by red light for 60 min. per day. Supplementary blue and red lighting regardless of the radiation time significantly stimulated development of lateral branches in African marigold. Stem growth in Ageratum and Salvia seedlings was significantly promoted by red radiation as well as natural light. CONCLUSIONS: Extending of the radiation time at sunrise and sunset twilight using LEDs stimulated reproductive growth of flowering plant species. Different characteristics on growth under supplementary blue or red lighting conditions were also observed in the seedlings during supplementary radiation.
The bullet shape of the plasma jet using the atmospheric-pressure dielectric barrier discharge method changes depending on the applied fluid rate and the intensity of the electric field. This changes appear as a difference in spectral distribution due to a difference in density of the DBD plasma jet. It is an important factor in utilizing the plasma device that difference between the occurrence of active species and the intensity through the analysis of the spectrum of the generated plasma jet. In this paper, a plasma jet generator of the atmospheric pressure volume DBD method using Ar gas was make a prototype in accordance with the proposed design method. The characteristics jet fluid rate analysis of Ar gas was accomplished through simulation to determine the dependence of flow rate for the generation of plasma jets, and the characteristics of plasma jets using spectrometers were analyzed in the prototype system to generate optimal plasma jet bullet shapes through MFC flow control. Through the design method of the proposed system, the method of establishing the optimal plasma jet characteristics in the device and the results of active species on the EOS were verified.
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive tool used to study aspects of human brain physiology, including motor function and the pathophysiology of various brain disorders. A brief electric current passed through a magnetic coil produces a high-intensity magnetic field, which can excite or inhibit the cerebral cortex. Although various brain regions can be evaluated by TMS, most studies have focused on the motor cortex where motor evoked potentials (MEPs) are produced. Single-pulse and paired-pulse TMS can be used to measure the excitability of the motor cortex via various parameters, while repetitive TMS induces cortical plasticity via long-term potentiation or long-term depression-like mechanisms. Therefore, TMS is useful in the evaluation of physiological mechanisms of various neurological diseases, including movement disorders and epilepsy. In addition, it has diagnostic utility in spinal cord diseases, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and demyelinating diseases. The therapeutic effects of repetitive TMS on stroke, Parkinson disease and focal hand dystonia are limited since the duration and clinical benefits seem to be temporary. New TMS techniques, which may improve clinical utility, are being developed to enhance clinical utilities in various neurological diseases.

Electrostatic precipitators(EPs) have low pressure drop and high dust collection efficiency and are widely used for industrial dust collectors. The current-voltage characteristics, which are important to maintain high dust collection efficiency, depend on several factor: discharge electrode shape, gas flow property, dust loading etc. In this study, experiments are performed to investigate the current-voltage characteristics of the corona discharge of various electrode geometries and an empirical model is proposed to predict current-voltage characteristics of the corona discharge. The corona onset voltage correction coefficient$(\alpha)$ and the geometry correction coefficient$(k_g)$ are used to the conventional equation for wire-plate type discharge electrode. The corona onset voltages are -6.3kV and almost constant when the numbers of discharge pins are varied from 3 to 9. The length of discharge pins has very sensitive effects on the corona onset voltage. They are increased from -6.3 to -7.8kV when the discharge pin length are 8.5 and 4.5mm, respectively. The empirical model shows good agreement with experimental results and can predict the effects of discharge pin length and number.

In this study, $0.085Ba(La_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})O_3-0.915Pb(Zr_yTi_{1-y})O_3$(y=0.45, 0.50, 0.55, 0.60, 0.65[mol]) transparent electrooptic ceramics were fabricated by two-stage sintering method. Increasing the $PbZrO_3$ contents, dielectric constant was increased and Curie temperature was decreased. In the composition of 0.55[mol] $PbZrO_3$, electromechanical coupling factor was 0.43. From the results of ferroelectric hysteresis loop and transmitted light intensity with electric field, the compositions of 0.65, 0.60, 0.55[mol] $PbZrO_3$ was applicable to electroopticmemory device and the compositions of 0.50, 0.45[mol] $PbZrO_3$ was applicable to linear electrooptic device.
Abstract Female mice post weaning were exposed to 20 kHz sawtooth electric and magnetic fields (EMF) with $6.25{\mu}T$ peak intensity for 6 weeks. Estrous cycles were checked using vaginal smears over the last 10 days of the experimental period. The vaginal smears from EMF-exposed mice revealed an increase in the frequency of one or two phases persisting. The number of estrous cycles less than 1 was more in the EMF-exposed group than in the sham control group. Furthermore, in the EMF-exposed group, the duration of proestrous and metestrous stages of the estrous cycle was significantly increased compared with the control group. In conclusion, our results suggest that exposure to 20 kHz sawtooth EMF may affect normal cycling of the estrous cycle by disrupting the female reproductive endocrine physiology. We should not disregard the possible adverse reproductive effect of the 20 kHz sawtooth EMF generated under the occupational exposure situation in females.

Fine dust containing iron compounds is of current interests in metro subway as well as large scale industries including iron manufacturing and smelting works. This work attempts to find a new design of magnetic filter module for iron dust capture. It simulated the vertical rectangular duct with metal mesh which might promote electric fields in the duct space. A lab test using coal fly ash composed of 8.66% Fe with the most form of $Fe_3O_4$ and $Fe_2O_3$ showed capability of magnetic collection. It showed the capture efficiency with 80~93% for $PM_{2.5}$ depending on magnetic intensity. Ferromagnetic wire mesh contributed up to 50% of collection increment.
