  • Seismic qualification of the Air Cleaning Units for nuclear power plant Ulchin 5&6 has been performed with the guideline of ASME Section III and IEEE 344 code. By using the structural and geometrical similarity analysis, the three models to be analyzed is condensed into a single model and, at the same time, the excitation forces and other operating loads for each model are encompassed with respect to different loading conditions. As the fundamental frequencies of the structure are found to be less than 33Hz, which is the upper frequency limit of the seismic load, response spectrum analysis using ANSYS is performed in order to combine the modal stresses within the frequency limit. In order to confirm the structural and electric stability of the major components, modal analysis theory is adopted to derive the required response spectrum at the component locations. As the all combined stresses obtained from the above procedures are less than allowable stresses and no mechanical or electrical failures are found from the seismic testing, the authors confirm the safety of the nuclear equipments Air Cleaning Units studied in this paper.

  • Typically, large scale power generation facilities are linked to 345kV transmission line through a step-up transformer. If the value of transient voltage by generating lightning stroke is large more than electric equipment's BIL, devices insulation is destroyed. LA(Lighting Arrester) is used as a main means of prevention. However, the installation of LA takes the constraints of installation place and expensive installation costs. Therefore, we need to carefully study whether installation of installation can be omitted and the most efficient place of installation. In this paper, we simulated the transient voltage detected by lightning stroke at each equipments in the 345kV transmission power grid by using EMTP-RV program.

  • The enlargement of an electric power system network gives us much challenges concerning with network operation. In addition to it, the fast aging process of network equipments requires more chance to check and maintenance, and also the increase of heavy loaded facilities and the increase of the fault current in the network need to exchange with the larger facilities in capacity. Due to these reasons, outages trend to increase. Network solution studies for outages are performed mainly for two purposes. The first one is to find the countermeasures when the outage causes a violation of the network reliability criteria. And the second one is to minimize network constraints due to outages. There are so many outages around 400 for only one month. Therefore, in order to do case studies for outage, not only skilled persons are needed, but also many available tools to help properly. Concerning with proper tools, we will introduce a program which we developed to get informations concerned with network sensitivity, and an example to apply that program.

  • Developing u-Public facilities for application u-City is to combine both the state-of-the art of the construction and ubiquitous computing and must be flexibly comprised of the facilities for the basic service of the building such as air conditioning, heating, lighting and electric equipments to materialize a new format of spatial planning and the public facilities inside or outside. Accordingly, in this paper we suggested the time pattern system for predicting the most basic power system loads for the basic service. To application the tim e pattern we applied SOM algorithm and k-means method and then clustered the data each weekday and each time respectively. The performance evaluation results of suggestion system showed that the forecasting system better the ARIMA model than the exponential smoothing method. It has been assumed that the plan for power supply depending on demand and system operation could be performed efficiently by means of using such power load forecasting.

  • Packaged power systems are very convenient for transferring and installing, and can supply electric power steadily for the areas which have a great difficulty in drawing power line from the outside. Then, the equipments have been widely used in such mountain areas and the back of beyond. Generally, compressed air has been employed to start the dynamo-engines for P.P.S. However, these systems necessitate air compressors, air tanks, air starting motors and pipe lines for transferring compressed air etc. Recently, starting systems which have only batteries and series DC motors as whole automobiles have been applied due to their simplicity and economy. In this paper, developed new starting motor for the P.P.S. And we achieved the better results from performance tests.: Output power, torque and speed.

A Research into a Device for Measuring the Electric Power Quality and the Harmonic Frequency (전력 품질 및 전력 고조파 측정 장치에 관한 연구)

  • The harmonic frequency occurred in a power system causes errors and failures of equipments such as motors, and an unnecessary power consumption. The fundamental countermeasure for the harmonic frequency is to eliminate the cause of the harmonic frequency. This paper describes about making the device to figure out the cause in real time, verifying the operation of the device, and utilizing it to various power quality measurements. The power usually has the line frequency between 45Hz and 66Hz. In this research, the number of the harmonic frequencies which can be analysed inside the 2.8kHz bandwidth, the filter bandwidth of ADE7880, is 2800/f, and the maximum is 2800/45 = 63. The maximum order of the harmonic frequency in Korea, which has the line frequency of 60Hz, was measured as 2800/60 = 46th. Also, the accuracy of the voltage, current, and power measurement had the error within 0.1%, confirming that it is very precise.

  • The precise measurement of ultrasonic power is important to the qualify assurance and the safety of medical ultrasonic equipments In the Present work, a brier theory was introduced to determine the ultrasonic Power from the time valving balance-indication due to the radiation force acting on an absorbing target and/or other causes such as buoyancy during the repetition of on/off behavior of ultrasonic irradiation. The developed automated system measuring the ultrasonic power was described in detail with the precise mechanical alignment tool , the electric signal generation network, the control and measurement network and the appropriate procedure. The ultrasonic power measured by the developed system was compared to the reference data calibrated by the other national metrology institute at 1 MHz, 5 MHz, 10 MHz, and 15 MHz over the range 10 mW to 10 W. Their relative differences are within $5\%$.

A study on the Development of Low-loss Type Mold Autotransformers (저손실형 몰드 단권변압기 개발)

  • The autotransformer currently used on the electric railway system is made of class A insulation material and uses the paper insulation method. As a power converter supplying power to the trolley wire, the autotransformer is one of critical equipment in the railway system. In the autotransformer, load irregularly changes and overload often occurs. These cause overheating of the autotransformer and facilitate deterioration of the autotransformer resulting in burnout accidents due to insulation breakdown. Also, the current autotransformer has poor insolation and short-circuit strength which often badly affect the service life of the transformer, and needs to improve its quality urgently. To overcome one of existing shortcomings of the mold transformer, manufacturers use epoxy resins that have superior flame retardancy to get rid of fro and explosion possibilities during accidents. Currently, new mold transformers are used in indoor distribution facilities with fire-fighting equipments. Coils molded in epoxy resins do not have their insulation performance compromised by humidity, dust, etc enabling easy inspection and maintenance. Comparing to the oil immersed transformer, the mold transformer does not have any concern about environmental pollutions by oil leak or replacement Therefore, to reduce breakdowns and improve reliability of the autotransformer, it is necessary to develop a new mold autotransformer with low loss suitable for our environment to suppress breakdowns of the autotransformer and improve the reliability. This study is about development of a low-loss mold autotransformer necessitated by reasons mentioned earlier.

  • The main structure of Gunsan steam power station was demolished by the toppling method using high explosives. Height of a main building is 58m and a total floor area is $292,000m^2$. It is Rahmen(rigid-frame) structure consisted of almost columns and beams and slabs exist only in one part of the building for the electricity generators equipments. To improve the efficiency of blasting work, it is separated into 4 sectors. Blasting floors were 1, 2, 3, & 4 stories from first sector to third sector, while 1, 2, 5, & 7 of fourth sector were blasted because it had not slabs. About 102.675 kg of the MegaMITE were used with 225 electric detonator and 638 non-electric detonators to check detonator connection and confidence of detonation. The blasting noise and vibration were monitored to evaluate the environment effect and the damage of the nearby structures.

  • Lightning induced faults accounts for more than 66% at the transmission lines of KEPCO. The lightning causes damages to power system equipments including transmission line, the blackout of electricity and the electro-magnetic interference. Because of this reason, we need the real time lightning information for the optimal operation of power system. And, it is required to obtain and accumulate the lightning current parameters for the insulation design. In 2005, KEPRI constructed a lightning detection network, the KLDNet (i.e. Kepco Lightning Detection & Information System) and launched a lightning information service for KEPCO customers. It is intended to provide data service on the operation of transmission lines and collect lightning-related data, which is the most important factor regulating power system design and operation. The new system will replace LPATS, the old detection system, which has been operating since 1995 and is rapidly failing in terms of both detection performance and location accuracy. The purpose of this paper is to explain the work performed and the results of that work in performing a site survey of several locations. The purpose of the site survey is to find locations acceptable for the installation of a lightning location receiver in support of a Lightning detection system(LDS). A restriction was placed on the surveyed locations, as they must belong to the Korea Electric Power Company. This requirement was made to facilitate the communication needs of the LDS network. Total of 15 sites were evaluated as possible LDS sensor sites. Some of the sites were rejected for physical reasons and therefore no electrical testing was performed. Of the 15 sites, total of 10 sites were considered acceptable and 5 sites were rejected for various reason. In this paper, we would like to explain the site survey and detection efficiency for LDS.
