  • A relatively high operating frequency is required for efficient wireless power transfer (WPT). However, the alternating current (AC) resistance of coils increases sharply with operating frequency, which possibly degrades overall efficiency. Hence, the evaluation of coil AC resistance is critical in selecting operating frequency to achieve good efficiency. For a Litz wire coil, AC resistance is attributed to the magnetic field, which leads to the skin effect, the proximity effect, and the corresponding conductive resistance and inductive resistance in the coil. A numerical calculation method based on the Biot-Savart law is proposed to calculate magnetic field strength over strands in Litz wire planar spiral coils to evaluate their AC resistance. An optimized frequency can be found to achieve the maximum efficiency of a WPT system based on the predicted resistance. Sample coils are manufactured to verify the resistance analysis method. A prototype WPT system is set up to conduct the experiments. The experiments show that the proposed method can accurately predict the AC resistance of Litz wire planar spiral coils and the optimized operating frequency for maximum efficiency.

  • In this paper, abnormal heating of circuit breaker in panel board by poor connection was studied. Firstly, calculation method of contact resistance shown in IEC 60943 was examined. Secondly, concerning abnormal heating of circuit breaker in panel board, field measurements were performed. Field measurements showed that locally abnormal heating by poor connection could be detected, therefore, in that case, immediate action was needed. Finally, experiments regarding abnormal heating between terminal of circuit breaker and electric wire were conducted. The results showed that abnormal heating above $180^{\circ}C$ was measured. Also, in the results of analysis of electrical waveforms according to load current, voltage drop occurred around poor connection, and the oxide was generated according to mechanical vibration. In order to prevent electrical disaster caused by poor connection, adequate torque should be applied to electrical connection, and periodic check-ups are needed.

  • Background: Experiments with small electrochemical apparatus were previously carried out for detecting low-energy neutrinos under irradiation of reactor neutrinos and under natural neutrino environment. The experimental result indicated that the output current of reactor-neutrino irradiated detector was appreciably larger than that of natural environmental one. Usual interaction cross-sections of neutrinos are quite small, so that they do not explain the experimental result at all. Materials and Methods: To understand the experimental data, we propose that some biological products may generate AV-type scalar field B0, leading to a large interaction cross-section. The output current generation is ascribed to an electrochemical process that may be assisted by weak interaction phenomena. Dissolved oxygen concentrations in the detector solution were measured in this study, for the purpose of understanding the mechanism of the detector output current generation. Results and Discussion: It was found that the time evolution of experimental output current was mostly reproduced in simulation calculation on the basis of the measured dissolved oxygen concentration. Conclusion: We mostly explained the variation of experimental data by using the electrochemical half-cell analysis model based on the DO concentration that is consistent to the experiment.

  • This paper estimates the electric field effect near 765[kV] AC double transmission line with numerical data. The induced voltage and current of a human and car under who kinds of phase arrangement are calculated when each of two objects is insulated or grounded. When the calculated results of the low-reactance and superposition phase arrangement are compared, it is proved that the induced voltage and current of the former are about 30 [%] smaller than that of the latter. The induced current of a human and car are less than 0.5[mA] which is about 10[%] less than that of the American National Standard Code. Also the induced voltage and current of dead lines by other live lines are calculated. Finally the effective number and position of shield wires to reduce the field in ground level are considered. charge simulation method and surface charge method are used to simulate the 2 or 3 dimensional transmission line model respectively.

  • Electrorheological(ER) fluid's storage shear modulus(G') and loss factor(${\eta}$) have been directly measured using small amplitude forced oscillating rheometer as a function of oscillating frequency, strain amplitude and applied electric field. Two types of experiment were performed , (a) frequency sweep and (b) amplitude sweep. Two kinds of sample were employed for this experiment ; cornstarch particles in corn oil and zeolite particles in silicone oil. The storage shear modulus was a strong function of driving frequency. Generally, the modulus increased with driving frequency. On the other hand, the loss factor was not well behaved as storage modulus, but as the driving frequency increases the loss factor slightly decreases was the trend of the material's characteristics. Also the modulus was a strong function of strain amplitude. Generally, modulus decreased with increasing strain, but loss factor increases slightly with increasing strain amplitude. For G', cornstarch in corn oil ER fluid has higher values than zeolite based fluid as we increased applied electric field. On the other hand, zeolite based fluid has higher values for ${\eta}$. There is a reasonable agreement between theoretical calculation and experiment.

  • The impact ionization(I.I.) is necessary to analyze carrier transport properties under the influence of high electric field. The full band I-k relation and Fermi's golden rule are used for the calculation of impact ionization rate. We have investigated the temperature- and field-dependent impact ionization coefficient for silicon using full band Monte Carlo simulation. The impact ionization coefficients calculated by our impact ionization model are agreed with experimental data at look. We know that impact ionization coefficients and electron energies are decreasing along increasing temperature due to increase of phonon scattering, especially by emission. The logarithm of impact ionization coefficients are fitted to linear function for temperature and field. The residuals of linear function are within the error bound of 5%. We know logarithmic impact ionization coefficients are linearly dependent on temperature and field.

  • The paper describes an application of unscented Kalman filter(UKF) for attitude estimation of an unmanned vehicle(UV), which is equipped with a low-cost attitude heading reference system (AHRS). The roll, pitch and yaw required at the correction stage of the UKF are calculated from the measurements of acceleration and geomagnetic field. The roll and pitch are attributed to the measurement of acceleration, while yaw is calculated from the geomagnetic field measurement. Since the measurement of geomagnetic field is vulnerable to distortion by hard-iron and soft-iron effects, the calculated yaw has more uncertainty than the calculated roll and pitch. To reduce the uncertainty of geomagnetic field measurement, the proposed method estimates bias in the geomagnetic field measurement and compensates for the bias for more accurate calculation of yaw. The proposed method is verified through navigation experiments of a UV in a test pool. The results show that the proposed method yields more accurate attitude estimation; thus, it results more accurate location estimation.

  • In this paper, we propose a calculation methodology of the service distance to assure the satisfactory quality of service for analogue and digital TV receivers. Using the field strength formulation for TV receiver based upon Rec. ITU-R P.1546, computational results are presented and discussed for both systems, and some important factors are reviewed in terms of the equivalent level of service, which must be kept due to ATV to DTV conversion. The presented method provides the predicted values of field strength at receiver areas to check whether transmission quality can be satisfied or not, and it can be also used for obtaining the protection ratio or separated distance from co-channel or adjacent interference signal.

  • The integral equation method is a powerful tool for electromagnetic numerical modeling. But the difficulty of this technique is the size of their linear equations, which demands excessive memory and calculation time to invert. This limitation of the integral equation method becomes critical in inverse problem. To overcome this limitation, a lot of approximation and series methods, such as conventional Born, modifed Born and extended Born, were developed. But all the methods need volume integration of Green tensor, which is very time consuming. In electromagnetic theory, Green tensor rapidly decreases as the distance between source and field cell increases. Therefore, the source cell which are far away from the field cell does not make an effect on the electric field of the field cell. Consequently, by ignoring the effect of Green tensor due to far away source cells, computing time for electromagnetic numerical modeling can be reduced dramatically. Comparisons of this new method against a full integral equation, extended Born approximation and series code show that the method is accurate enough much less time consuming.

  • In order to facilitate the supply of gradually increasing power demand, it is also necessary to increase the number of power cables for power transmission as well as generation facilities. However, the expansion of electric power cables for supplying power to most urban areas requires a space for installation of additional cables, and the space for installing cables in domestic downtown areas is insufficient at present. The superconducting power cable, which can transmit more power with the same size, has emerged as an alternative to overcome the insufficient cable installation space. However, superconducting power cables, which have the advantage of large power transmission, have some losses in the AC (Alternating Current) system. Therefore, the design and analysis of AC losses are essential to introduce superconducting power cables in AC power transmission systems. In this paper, we analyze the AC loss of various superconducting power cables and consider the actual superconducting power cables and their application to the system. Although there is a theoretical calculation method of AC loss for single superconducting wire, it is not easy to calculate AC loss of superconducting power cable with large number. Therefore, the authors intend to analyze various kinds of superconducting power cable AC loss by using electromagnetic finite element analysis considering E-J (Electric field-Current density) characteristics of superconductivity. The analysis of the AC loss characteristics of the superconducting power cable will be an important factor in the design and development of the superconducting power cable to be applied to the actual system.
