Evaluations of Convenience of Use and Image Preference of Bicycles to Develop Electric Bikes

  • This study was carried out to present design guidelines for developing electric bikes which could be used for more users regardless of gender and age. Through a survey with 336 male and female respondents in Seoul aged between 10s and 70 years or older, the convenience of bicycle use and image preference by gender and age were investigated. To evaluate convenience of bicycle use, the 7 principles of universal design made by Universal Design Center were customized to fit for accessing bicycles. The following are results of statistical analysis on 301 valid data: (1) of the 7 principles, conventional bicycles were identified to be the most inconvenient in principle 6(low physical effort), followed by in principle 5(tolerance for error) and 7(size and space for approach and use). Women appeared to feel more inconvenience than men in all evaluation criteria while using bicycles. The relation between the convenience of use and users' age was not identified. (2) Preferred images by bicycle users turned out to be those of 'simple' and 'light.' By gender, male preferred more 'technical' and 'dynamic' images than female. By age, users in their 10s-20s preferred more 'individual' image than 70 years or older.

An Inner-spherical Continuously Variable Transmission for Electric Bicycles

  • A new continuously variable transmission (CVT) for electric bicycles was developed using a traction drive mechanism with inner and outer spherical rotors. This electric bicycle CVT permits three propulsion modes: human-power only, motor-power only, or a combination of motor power and human power. In addition, the electric bicycle CVT has high power efficiency, large torque capacity, improved drivability, and good packageability. A prototype was manufactured based on a conceptual design, a performance analysis, and a detailed design. This prototype has a rated power of 250 W and input motor speed of 20 rad/s for an overall speed ratio in the range 0.3-1.2. A bench test was conducted to measure the power transmission performance of the prototype.

  • This paper presents the implementation and characteristic analysis of a drive system for a three-phase permanent magnet motor with independent excitation winding that is applicable for electric bicycles. The design features improves the phase current waveform, output power, and torque by using advance angle control. This adjusts the phase angle of each phase current in relation to back EMF. In addition, a DC-side PI current control is performed through PWM generation circuit using a low-cost one-chip microcontroller and a CPLD chip, resulting in reduced system costs. Finally, the validity of this control scheme for driving electric bicycles and output/torque improvement characteristics are verified through analysis and experimental results.

  • 재활치료용 전동자전거는 데이터를 처리하기 위하여 유선 방식을 채택하고 있기 때문에 설치 및 구성이 복잡하여 장애인을 위한 공간활용 측면에서 많은 어려움을 갖고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 경제성을 고려한 비용절감과 의료관련 공학기술 개발에 근간을 두고, 재활치료 전동자전거의 데이터 처리를 위한 RF송수신 보드를 개발하였다. 특히, 소출력 무선국 중 ISM 주파수 대역에서의 RF 송수신 모듈을 이용하여 다수의 전동자전거와 한 대의 PC간의 데이터 처리가 가능하도록 하였다.

  • 우리나라를 비롯한 선진국 국가의 대부분은 기존의 탄소 자동차 대용으로 전기 자동차, 메탄올 자동차, 수소 자동차 등 저탄소 자동차 개발에 막대한 투자를 계속하고 있다. 그러나, 궁극적이고 현실적인 무공해 교통수단은 자전거가 유일하기 때문에 각국의 중앙 정부 및 지방 정부들은 자전거 전용 도로를 개설하고 공공 임대 서비스 시스템 구축을 서두르고 있다. 현재 운영되고 있는 거의 모든 자전거 관제 시스템들은 자전거 보관소에서의 대여 및 반납과정의 자동화를 이루고 있으나, 보관소를 떠난 자전거의 이동 경로 및 소재를 모니터링하지는 않는다. 이 연구에서는 자전거 공공 임대 서비스를 위해 CDMA 모뎀과 결합된 GPS 단말기 및 이를 사용하는 위치기반 자전거 관제 시스템을 개발한다. 이 관제 시스템은 이동통신을 통하여 자전거에 부착된 GPS 관제 단말기로부터 위치 정보를 수신하고, 그 이동 경로를 GIS 연동 맵에 표시함으로써 자전거의 회수 및 재분배를 용이하게 하고, 도난 및 고의 파손을 최소화 시키며, 이용자들에게는 가까운 곳에 위치한 자전거 보관소를 추천해 줄 수 있다.

Proposal of a Portable Folding Electric Scooter Model and Manufacturing of the Prototype

  • In recent years, small mobile devices called personal mobility or smart mobility have attracted attention. Personal mobility refers to electric-driven personal transportation that can travel at close range and medium distance, including small electric vehicles, electric bicycles, electric motorcycles and electric scooters. Most of the electric scooters used in Korea are mainly imported from China. This is due to the fact that the price competitiveness of major components of electric scooters is owned in China. At this point, the domestic research direction is preferable for the composition and design of the electric scooter body rather than cost reduction for the components. In this study, we propose a new model of portable folding structure that is easy to use for electric scooters, which are personal vehicles using electric energy. We also made a prototype for practical use.

개인형 이동수단별 헬멧 착용 유무가 두부 손상에 미치는 영향: 일개 권역응급의료센터에 교통사고로 내원한 환자를 대상으로 (The effect of wearing a helmet on head injury risks among personal mobility vehicle riders: A study of patients who visited a regional emergency medical center due to traffic accidents)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors that contribute to head injuries among drivers of personal mobility devices and provide insights into safety perceptions. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed data of 221 trauma patients obtained from electronic medical records and the National Emergency Department Information System (NEDIS) over one year, from August 1, 2021, to July 31, 2022. The patients, all in their 20s and 30s, presented to a single emergency medical center following personal mobility device accidents (motorcycles, electric scooters, and bicycles). Results: Among motorcycle riders, 18.2% were not wearing helmets, while the percentage of e-scooter riders not wearing helmets was 87.5%. Wearing a helmet was associated with a 71.2% lower likelihood of head injuries (OR=0.288, CI=0.163 to 0.509, p=0.000). Of the personal mobility devices, motorcycles had a 0.431 times lower odds ratio for head injury compared to e-scooters (p=0.009), and there was no significant difference between e-scooters and bicycles (p=0.776). Conclusion: It is imperative to strengthen safety regulations by mandating helmet use for riders of personal mobility devices. A system to enhance driving enforcement for electric scooters, which are increasingly popular among young adults, should also be established.

Dynamometer Test for the CVT System using Spring

  • As a means to cope with the climate change crisis caused by global warming, automobile manufacturers continue to make efforts to use the driving energy of vehicles as electricity. As a result, parts industry such as battery, motor, and controller are attracting attention. China is often seen in large cities, with electric vehicles such as electric bicycles, electric motorcycles, and small electric vehicles popularized and commercialized, mainly in large cities. However, small electric vehicles are not popular in Korea, which is why the country's topography is high in hills. In order to drive the hilly domestic roads, power performance including vehicle climbing ability should be improved. In order to improve the power performance and the climbing capacity of small electric vehicles, the capacity of the motor should be increased. However, when the performance of the motor is improved, the weight of the motor becomes heavy and the price competitiveness is likely to decrease. In addition, in order to operate a high-performance motor, the power consumption of the battery is rapidly increased, so various problems must be solved. In order to commercialize a small electric vehicle for one or two people who do not emit harmful exhaust gas to the human body in a hilly domestic terrain, it is effective to have a separate transmission system. In this study, we were conducted dynamometer test to produce a continuously variable transmission(CVT) system prototype using a spring that can be applied to a small electric vehicle and to install a CVT system prototype manufactured in a small electric vehicle. The dynamometer test results showed that the maximum speed performance, acceleration performance, and climbing performance were improved.

1[kW] 이하의 소형 전동차량용 충전설비 구축에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Construction of Charging System for Small Electric Vehicles Less than 1 [kW])

  • 전기 자전거 또는 전동 킥보드와 같은 소형 전동차량은 차량에 장착된 배터리를 충전하여 운행되는데,이들 이용자 중 일부는 공동주택이나 공공시설물에 설치된 비상용 전기 소켓을 시설물 허락 없이 이용하는 경우가 늘어나고 있다. 이와 같은 사유로 간단한 설비 구축만으로 전력의 사용을 승인 받고 아울러 이용 요금을 즉시 지불할 필요성이 건물관리자는 물론 소형 차량 이용자들로부터 증가하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 공동주택이나 공공건물에 기 설치된 15[A] 전기 소켓에 급전제어장치를 추가로 설치하여 1[kW] 이하의 소형 전동차량에 장착된 배터리를 충전하여 사용할 수 있는 기법을 제안한다. 또한 전력 사용자 승인 알고리즘과 사용된 요금의 부과 방안에 대하여도 기술한다. 본 연구의 결과로 소형 전동차량에 장착된 배터리를 손쉽게 충전할 수 있는 환경을 조성함으로써 도전(electricity theft) 방지 효과를 가진 사용자인증 전력공급시스템을 구현한다.

Black Consumer 추출을 위한 사용자 필터링 시스템 제안 -공유형 전동킥보드 사용자를 중심으로- (Proposal of User Filtering System for Black Consumer Extraction -focusing on Shared Electric Kickboard Users-)

  • 공유형 전동킥보드의 수요가 날이 갈수록 높아짐에 따라 국내에도 다양한 업체들이 공유형 전동킥보드 대여 서비스를 제공하고 있다. 관련 분야가 급성장함에 따라 사용자들은 주변에서 공유형 전동킥보드를 손쉽게 대여할 수 있게 되었지만 정해진 대여 스테이션이 부재한 이유로 사용 후 관리가 제대로 이루어지지 않고 있고, 대여용 전동킥보드에 대한 무책임한 사용으로 많은 전동킥보드가 훼손되고 있는 상황이다. 이러한 이유로 공유형 전동킥보드에 대한 시민들의 인식이 부정적으로 변하였고, 일부 도시에서는 공유형 전기자전거의 서비스가 제한된다고 한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 무분별한 사용으로 대여 시스템에 부정적 영향을 줄 수 있는 Black Consumer를 추출할 수 있는 사용자 필터링 시스템을 제안한다. 본 시스템이 도입될 경우 안전한 전동킥보드 사용과 관리가 가능할 것으로 기대된다.
