  • Critical current - magnetic field ($I_c$-B) relation is one of the basic properties of an HTS wire, which is needed for the design of performances of superconducting devices. Experimental results of the $I_c$-B relation of Bi-2223 and YBCO superconducting wire are presented in this paper. n-value is also an important parameter which is needed to calculate the electric field by using the power-law. Measurement results of the n-value of the same HTS superconducting wires are also presented.

  • Electrical Railroads provide electric power, which can operate vehicles, via feeder wires. And the supplied current returns to the transformer substation through lines and ground net. The used load current depending on the operation of rail vehicles in the electric railway sections returns to the substation through a track which is a return circuit. The load current contains harmonics because of the power conversion equipment used in rolling stocks and such harmonic currents should not affect train control system. In this paper we present the test result in order to verify that the harmonics produced by the operation of rail vehicles in the newly built electric railway sections can affect interlocking systems. The test in question was performed in a linking section that trackside equipment under railway operating conditions and interlocking are linked in order to identify whether or not the interlocking fitted in a signal machine room can be affected by harmonics according to railway operation.

  • The 96 elementary school teachers' the degrees of understandings about the characteristics of the currents according to the connection methods of batteries in simple electric circuits were investigated. In this study, the concepts on the characteristics of currents according to the connection methods of batteries were divided 'the learned concepts' and 'the differentiated concepts'. The characteristics of the currents in the region of the larger resistance of load than the internal resistance of a battery were called the learned concepts, they are taught in the science curriculum. While the characteristics of the currents in the region of the smaller resistance of load than the internal resistance of a battery were called the differentiated concepts, they are not exposed clearly in the science curriculum. The results obtained in this study are as follows: The average score related to the learned concepts was relatively high, while the degree of the teachers' cognitions of the internal resistance of a battery and the resistance of wires were low. Also the average score related to the differentiated concepts was very low because it seems so new to the elementary school teachers. It strongly suggests that the elementary school teachers did not understand meaningfully the characteristics of the currents related to the connections of batteries on the ground of the cognitions of the internal resistances of batteries and the resistances of loads in simple electric circuits. Hence, they might experience difficulties due to the problems occurred in relation to the connections of batteries in the elementary school science lessons.

  • Electrical Railroads provide electric power, which can operate vehicles, via feeder wires. And the supplied current returns to the transformer substation through lines and ground net. The return current, related to signal, power and power line, and track circuit systems, is one of the most important component in the electric railway. Therefore, to prevent system faults and breakdown according to unbalance and overcurrent of the return current, various and detailed analyses for the return current are needed. In the paper, we present measurement and analysis manners in real environment and evaluate its safety. For analysis, we utilize the measured values of return currents measured in track circuits in electric railway. we expect that this research plays a key role to the related fields.

  • In a microcolumn, a miniaturized electrostatic deflector is often adopted to scan an electron beam. Usually, a double octupole deflector is used because it can avoid excessive spherical aberrations by controlling the electron beam path close to the optical axis of the objective lens and has a wide scan field. Studies on microcolumns have been performed to improve the low throughput of an electron column through multiple column applications. On the other hand, as the number of microcolumns increases, the number of wires connected to the components of the microcolumn increases. This will result in practical problems during the process of connecting the wires to electronic controllers outside of the vacuum chamber. To reduce this problem, modified quadrupole and octupole deflectors were examined through simulation analysis by selecting an ultraminiaturized microcolumn with the Einzel lens eliminated. The modified deflectors were designed changing the size of each electrode of the conventional Si octupole deflector. The variations of the scan field and electric field strength were studied by changing the size of active electrodes to which the deflection voltage was to be applied. The scan field increased linearly with increasing deflection voltage. The scan field of the quadrupole deflector and the electric field strength at the center were calculated to be approximately 1.3 ~ 2.0 times larger than those of the octupole deflector depending on the electrode size.

  • Electric cables such as multi-interphone cables and ribbon cab]os are commonly used for data aquisition in the DC resistivity survey. In general, electromagnetic induction may occur in the electric cables when electric current flows through them. In case of using multi-interphone cables in the DC resistivity survey, electromagnetic induction could take place due to the entangled wires of the multi-interphone cables, when the current flows through them. Then, the electromagnetic induction may cause measured DC resistivity data to be distorted. In this study, a monitoring system with PXI (PCI Extention for Instrumentation) was constructed to examine signal distortion on the DC resistivity data, attributed to the electromagnetic induction. Common electric cables used in the DC resistivity survey were tested to observe the waveforms of the electric voltages. The waveforms measured were compared to examine signal distortion due to the electromagnetic induction. The results may provide information on the resistivity data obtained using different electric cables in the DC resistivity survey. The distortion of waveforms attributed to the electromagnetic induction wat not observed when using ribbon cables for DC resistivity data aquisition, while the distortion were observed when using multi-interphone. Therefore, the ribbon cables provide better quality of data than other cables in the DC resistivity data aquisition.

  • There have been a number of major fatal fire accidents in Korea recently. The number of fires in 2017 were 44,178, which is not only increasing number of fires but also increasing in casualties. Particularly, the fire at Jecheon Sports Center, which suffered many casualties, is expected to have a huge impact. The cause of the fire has not been determined yet, but heat waves on the ceiling have also been pointed out. As such, the copper heating waves, which are used as a preventive measure against damage of pipes due to freezing of pipes, etc., always have a fire hazard. To determine the possibility of a flame-resistant heated fire, a positive electric cable product was used to artificially ignite and analyze the results. In case of a short circuit, the external covering of the positive electric cable is damaged, but not short circuit unless the heating material surrounding the wire is damaged. Due to the characteristics of heating cable for preventing copper waves, the chances of insulation becoming more severe due to moisture and temperature changes are higher than normal wires. If the internal heating system is carbonized by insulating deterioration without damage to the outer coating, it is likely to cause trekking, to form a winding loop in the heating materials, and to cause short circuit in the heated materials. For the positive temperature line, if the middle is shorted, the current continues to flow to the short circuit unless the breaker disconnects. Consequently, a heated fire that does not cut off the power immediately may leave multiple marks or cuts.

  • Pure copper, Cu-1.1wt%Cd and ACSR(Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) have been used as Catenary Materials in Electric Railway System. Since these materials may have chance to be exposed to the corrosive environments like polluted air, acid rain and sea water, it is important not only to investigate the corrosion characteristics but also to measure corrosion rates in various corrosive environments. In order to examine corrosion characteristics according to the dissolved oxygen content, pH, chloride ion concentration ion, and the addition of Cd to Cu, a series of tests such as potentiodynamic polarization. a.c impedance spectroscopy and galvanic corrosion tests were carried out in these materials. Results showed that the addition of Cd to Cu and chloride ion in the solution have an adverse effect on the resistance to corrosion. Additionally, Galvanic currents between Al and steel wires of ACSR were confirmed by using ZRA(zero resistance ammeter) method.

  • $REBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-d}$(REBCO) coated conductors(REBCO CCs) have been studied for electric power applications which require high current density wires. As long as the critical transition temperature(Tc) is concerned, REBCO CCs with large $RE^{3+}$ ions have been expected to have better current transport properties than those with smaller $RE^{3+}$ ions. For this reason, REBCO's with large $RE^{3+}$ ions which include GdBCO, NdBCO and SmBCO have been mainly considered as the superconducting layer of CCs. On the other hand, REBCO's with smaller $RE^{3+}$ions are expected to have advantages in the fabrication process of CCs because of the lower melting temperature. But it has not yet been made clear which REBCO is the most suitable for the superconducting layer of CCs. In this study, we investigated the current transport properties of REBCO CCs with small $RE^{3+}$ ion and advantages of using that in the CC fabrication process. Thin films of TmBCO, which has smaller $RE^{3+}$ion than most other $RE^{3+}$ ions, were fabricated on buffered metal substrate as the superconducting layer of CC by PLD process. TmBCO CC shows critical current density (Jc (77 K, sf) = $2.3\;MA/cm^2$) high enough to be utilized for application in electric power devices. Compared with previous experiments using the same PLD system, deposition temperature was approximately $20^{\circ}C$ lower than NdBCO thin films on buffered metal substrates.

  • During the winter season, when electricity usage increases rapidly every year, fires are frequent due to short circuits in aging electrical facilities in multi-use facilities such as traditional markets and jjimjilbangs, apartments, and multi-family houses. Most of the causes of such fires are caused by excessive loads applied to aging wires, causing the wire covering to melt and being transferred to surrounding ignition materials. In this study, we implement a system that measures the overload and overheating of the wire through a composite sensor, detects the toxic gas generated there, and logs it to the server through the gateway. Based on this, we will develop a platform that can predict, alarm and block electric fires in real time through big data analysis, and a simulator that can simulate fire occurrence experiments.
