The purpose of this study is to analyze effect of climate and urban factors on energy resilience, and to explore policy alternatives to strengthen resilience of energy system. For this purpose, this study used extensive literature review on resilience studies and multiple regression analysis. In this study, blackout time was set as a dependent variable. And the independent variables were divided into climate and urban (robustness, countermeasure capacity) characteristics. As a result of the analysis, in terms of climate characteristics, maximum wind speed and cooling/heating degree-day have statistically significant impact on blackout time. With regard to urban characteristics, number of consumer, ratio of deteriorated housing and coast dummy variables have statistically significant impact on blackout time. And the ratio of government employees and road ratio were found to be the most influencing factors to shorten time taken to restore original level of electricity supply. Based on the study results, several policy suggestions to improve energy resilience were made such as continuous management of vulnerable areas and strengthening disaster response services. This study only considered engineering dimension of resilience. Further studies need to be approached on ecological & social-ecological dimension.

Traditionally, electric power systems have been known as the centralized structures, which is organized into placing customers at the end of the supply chain. However, recent decades have witnessed the emergence of distributed energy resources(:DERs) such as rooftop solar, farming PV system, small wind turbines, battery energy storage systems and smart home appliances. With the emergence of distributed energy resources, the role of distributed system operators(:DSOs) will expand. The increasing penetration of DERs could lead to a less predictable and reverse flow of power in the system, which can affect the traditional planning and operation of distribution and transmission networks. This raises the need for a change in the role of the DSOs that have conventionally planned, maintained and managed networks and supply outages. The objective of this research is to designed the future distribution operation system with multi-DERs and the proposed distribution system model is implemented by hardware-in-the-loop simulation(HILS). The test results show the normal operation domain and reduction of distribution line loss.

A dimensional supply of petroleum fuels and increased competition for petroleum products has made the conservation of energy in grain drying an important cost and management factor. Research on solar grain drying is directed toward utilization of a renewable energy source as an alternative to petroleum fuels for drying. There are many technical and economic problems in accepting and adopting solor energy as a new energy source for grain drying. The purpose of this study are to assess the state of the art of solar grain drying and to find out the problems by reviewing literatures available. The results obtained may be summarized as follows; 1.It may be considered that the weather conditions in October of Korea was satisfactory for the forced natural air and solar heated air drying. 2. Solar energy is considered more applicable to low-temperature, In-storage drying systems than to high-temperature, high-speed drying systems. In-storage drying systems require low levels of heat input. The costs of collector systems to provide low temperature are considerably cheaper than for high-temperature systems. 3. Tubular type collector made of polyvinyle film seems to be the most practical at this stage of development and black-painted bare-plate collectors mounted on the outside of a typical, round, low-temperature drying bin can supply an appreciable amount of the energy efficiently needed for low-temperature grain drying at a lower cost. 4. All of the grains in solar drying tests was successfully dried up to safe storaged moisture levels without significant spoilage. Drying rates with solar system were faster than natural air drying systems, and usually a little slower than similar low-temperature electric drying systems. 5. Final grain moisture levels were lower in solar tests than in natural air tests, and generally higher than in tests with continuous heated air. 6. Savings of energy by use of solar collectors ranged from 23% to 55%, compared to the natural and electric ileated air drying systems. However, total drying cost effectiteness tvas not significant. Therefore, it is desirable that solar grain dry-ing sIFstems tvhich could be suitable for multiple heating purposes on farms shouldbe developed. 7. Supplemental heat with solar radiation did little to reduce air flow requirementsbut refuced drying time and increased the p\ulcornerobability of successful drying duringdrying poriod.
Pubilc utility industries including the electric utility industry are facing a new stream of privatization com-petition with the private sector and deregulation. The necewssity to solve now and in the future power supply and demand problems has been increasing through the sophisticated generation expansion plan(GEP) approach con-sidering not only KEPCo's supply-side resources but also outside resources such as non-utility generation(NUG) demand-side management (DSM). Under the environmental situation in the current electric utility industry a new approach is needed to acquire multiple resources competitively. This study presents the development of a modified electric generation expansion analysis system(EGEAS) model with avoided cost based on the existing EGEAS model which is a dynamic program to develope an optimal generation expansion plan for the electric utility. We are trying to find optimal GEP in Korea's case using our modified model and observe the difference for the level of reliabilities such as the reserve margin(RM) loss of load probability(LOLP) and expected unserved energy percent(EUEP) between the existing EGEAS model and our model. In addition we are trying to calculate avoided cost for NUG resources which is a criterion to evaluate herem and test possibility of connection calculation of avoided cost with GEP implementation using our modified model. The results of our case study are as follows. First we were able to find that the generation expansion plan and reliability measures were largely influenced by capacity size and loading status of NUG resources, Second we were able to find that avoided cost which are criteria to evaluate NUG resources could be calculated by using our modified EGEAS model with avoided cost. We also note that avoided costs were calculated by our model in connection with generation expansion plans.

Microgrid, which enables the production and consumption of electricity to be done independently on a small scale, has been studied on one of the solutions of reinforcement for flexibility of electronic system. This study examined the application effect of new microgrid by applying hybrid battery in electric power storage device. We designed the system to highlight the advantage of each battery and complement the disadvantage by using hybrid system with Lithium-ion battery and interval Redox flow battery. It runs with lithium-ion battery during the initial startup while the Redox flow battery operates for a long time at the end of excessive period, and it enables a discharge of Lithium-ion and Redox flow battery at the same time when the load has a large output. We chose Maldives as a subject of this study for organizing and optimizing independent microgrid. Maldives is the country to accomplish 100% domestic electricity in South Asia, but the whole electric power is supplied through diesel generation imported fossil fuel. We organized and optimized microgrid for energy independence on Malahini island to solve Maldives energy cost problem and global energy environment matters. We analyzed the daily power supply and accumulated the power supply from September 18, 2018~February 11, 2019. The accumulated power supply was about 120.4 MWh and the daily power supply was about 800~1000 kWh. Based on the collected information, we divided the cases into three models which are only diesel generator, solar generator as well as diesel generator, and solar+ESS+diesel generator. We analyzed the amount of oil consumption compared to the cost of construction and power output. The result showed that solar+ESS+diesel generator was most economically feasible. As well, we obtained that our considering hybrid battery system reduced the fuel consumption for diesel power generation about 10~15%.

There is a high demand for energy efficiency improvement of factories that make up a large part of national electric energy. Therefore, research on smart FEMS technology for monitoring, analyzing and controlling energy consumption patterns is under way, but there is still a lack of research on detailed element technology for communication and control inside the factory. In this paper, we proposed OFDM VLC system based on MODBUS protocol for communication between gateways, sensors, and devices to implement smart FEMS in indoor factory environment. Assuming a conveyor belt load control, we validated the proposed system by simulating the inverter motor control and checking the performance.

Recently, the importance of energy demand management, particularly peak load control, has been increasing due to the policy changes of the Second Energy Basic Plan. Even though the installation of distributed generation systems such as Photovoltaic and energy storage systems (ESS) are encouraged, high initial installation costs make it difficult to expand their supply. In this study, the power consumption of a university building was measured in real time and the measured power consumption data was used to calculate the optimal installation capacity of the Photovoltaic and ESS, respectively. In order to calculate the optimal capacity, it is necessary to analyze the operation methods of the Photovoltaic and ESS while considering the KEPCO electricity billing system, power consumption patterns of the building, installation costs of the Photovoltaic and ESS, estimated savings on electric charges, and life time. In this study, the power consumption of the university building with a daily power consumption of approximately 200kWh and a peak power of approximately 20kW was measured per minute. An economic analysis conducted using these measured data showed that the optimal capacity was approximately 30kW for Photovoltaic and approximately 7kWh for ESS.
Solar power generation, which is one of the methods of using solar energy, has a high possibility of practical implementation compared to other renewable energy power generation, and it has the characteristic that it can generate as much power as needed in necessary places. In addition, maintenance is easy, unmanned operation is possible, and power management can be performed more efficiently if operated in a hybrid method with existing electric energy. Therefore, in this study, numerical analysis using a computer program was performed to analyze the efficient operation and performance improvement of solar energy of the rotating condensing type solar LED street lamp. As a result, the two-axis tracking type could obtain 15.23 % more electricity per year than the fixed type, and additional auxiliary power generation was required for the fixed type by 19 % per year than the tracking type. As a result of computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulation for PV module surface temperature prediction, the The surface temperature of the Photovoltaics(PV) module incident surface was predicted to be about 10℃ higher than that of the fixed type.
The Electric Power Subsystem (EPS) is one of the most critical systems on any satellite because nearly every subsystem requires power. This makes the choice of power systems the most important task facing satellite designers. The main purpose of the Satellite EPS is to provide continuous, regulated and conditioned power to all the satellite subsystems. It has to withstand radiation, thermal cycling and vacuums in hostile space environments, as well as subsystem degradation over time. The EPS power characteristics are determined by both the parameters of the system itself and by the satellite orbit. After satellite separation from the launch vehicle (LV) to its orbit, in almost all situations, the satellite subsystems (attitude determination and control, communication and onboard computer and data handling (OBC&DH)), take their needed power from a storage battery (SB) and solar arrays (SA) besides the consumed power in the EPS management device. At this point (separation point, detumbling mode), the satellite's angular motion is high and the orientation of the solar arrays, with respect to the Sun, will change in a non-uniform way, so the amount of power generated by the solar arrays will be affected. The objective of this research is to select satellite EPS component types, to estimate solar array illumination parameters and to determine the efficiency of solar arrays during both detumbling and normal operation modes.
