  • Social welfare facilities are used by a wide range of local residents, including vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and people with disabilities. During emergencies like fires, confusion can arise as these individuals try to evacuate. Evacuation simulation results have shown that utilizing evacuation systems based on specific evacuation scenarios can significantly decrease the time required for evacuation compared to general evacuation procedures. By anticipating potential fires based on changes in social and facility environments, appropriate evacuation scenarios can be developed and applied to evacuation systems, thus contributing to the safety and security of individuals during emergencies. In conclusion, for social welfare facilities that serve a large number of people, it is necessary to expand the focus on performance-based design depending on the size of the facility, and to continuously develop and train for appropriate evacuation scenarios that align with changing facility environments.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to derive basic data for desirable location and functions of the integrated care center. Methods: Survey, Questionaire and statistical analysis are the main research method of this study. In order to collect data related to utilization pattern and favorite functions of the senior people, researchers have visited 4 social welfare facilities located in Southern Gyeonggi Province. 403 questionaires have been gathered from 4 facilities and they have been analyzed by using Excel Program of MS. Results: First, compared to other services, healthcare services have been preferred by many older people in Social welfare Facilities. This means that integrated care centers providing healthcare services for older people rather than services for children or disabilities is desirable. Second, Integrated Care Centers had better be established within the walk distance of elderly people. If it is not easy, the introduction of shuttle bus for older people is desirable. Especially, in case of large Care Center. Implications: This study shows that small facility with community care rather than big facility is desirable for small community in the point of friendliness, convenience, economy, etc.. However it is necessary to combine welfare service and healthcare service even in small centers.

  • In an aging society, as the number of people with disabilities increases concerns are raised about the quality of life of these people and their access to a safe environment becomes important. The purpose of this study is to find out the value of accessibility as an attribute of housing. To estimate the value of accessible, barrier-free housing, this study uses the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) and analyzes the factors which affect the Willingness To Pay (WTP) of survey respondents by using Survival Analysis. In addition, the importance and satisfaction of barrier-free facilities in the dwellings of survey respondents was investigated. Since aging could be an important factor in influencing the need for accessibility, this study surveyed two age groups, one group (212 respondents) of people below the age of 65 and the other (162 respondents) of people above 65. The results of this study show that respondents would pay on average 2.67% more for being barrier-free when answering an open-ended question and 3.87% more for barrier-free housing when using the double referendum model. This is the increase in value that the respondents perceive as a consequence of removing all the architectural barriers from a dwelling. On average, elderly respondents would pay 2.99% of housing price for accessible features compared to 4.40% of the younger group. However, if the elderly who have willingness to pay for accessibility, the value the older group put on barrier-free housing was higher than the value perceived by the younger group. Factors that influence the WTP are importance of barrier-free facilities, education level and housing type. The value of dwellings without barriers estimated in this study shows the potential size and value of this kind of housing market to the housing development sector.

  • In this paper, we propose a framework for the real-time monitoring of wireless biosensors. This is a scalable platform that requires minimum human interaction during set-up and monitoring. Its main components include a biosensor, a smart gateway to automatically set up the body area network, a mechanism for delivering data to an Internet monitoring server, and automatic data collection, profiling and feature extraction from bio-potentials. Such a system could increase the quality of life and significantly lower healthcare costs for everyone in general, and for the elderly and those with disabilities in particular.

  • Like other countries undergoing the aging of the population, increases in the aged population have raised serious issues in Korea. The proportion of elderly will be foreseen over $14\%$ of population in 2019, over $20\%$ in 2026 in korea. Due to the rapid increasing in the aged population, it calls for social countermeasures urgently, And recent researches about attitude to the aged find out in general negative attitude to the aged of other generations. It is thought desirable that comprehension to the aged of the commonalty should be educated on the school basis or a variety of informal ways. The study aims to determine the space formation of the senior simulation center that suggest to be considered for the effective education and preparation for the aging of all social members, particularly for the younger generation. In such space formation, it is important to work out a plan of efficiency education according to the systematic environmental setting with a focus on the minimization of problematic behaviors and living disabilities of aging, as interactive experiences gain malfunctions by aging. This study is expected to promote a focus on the integration of the whole generations and improved design management for the environment of a welfare policy for the aged.

  • Low fertility rates and increased life expectancy further exacerbate the process of an aging society. This is also reflected in the gradual increase in the proportion of vulnerable groups in the social population. The demand for improved mobility among vulnerable groups such as the elderly or the disabled has greatly driven the growth of the electric-assisted mobility device market. However, such mobile devices generally require a certain operating capability, which limits the range of vulnerable groups who can use the device and increases the cost of learning. Therefore, autonomous driving technology needs to be introduced to make mobility easier for a wider range of vulnerable groups to meet their needs of work and leisure in different environments. This study uses mini PC Odyssey, Velodyne Lidar VLP-16, electronic device and Linux-based ROS program to realize the functions of working environment recognition, simultaneous localization, map generation and navigation of electric powered mobile devices for vulnerable groups. This autonomous driving mobility device is expected to be of great help to the vulnerable who lack the immediate response in dangerous situations.

  • While there have been numerous studies on various issues of aging of the individuals and the population, little is known about the process and consequences of aging of the disabled. Aging is irreversible for the disabled as well as for the not-disabled. With the advances of age, the disabled confront double jeopardy from disability and old age. This study aims to explore the meaning of aging and death for 40s and 50s living with disability for more than 20 years. It utilizes the data set collected through focus groups discussions of the disabled The cases in our analysis are composed of the disabled capable of articulating their feelings and thoughts. Thus, they are selected from the less privileged ones. The analysis shows that aging of the disabled, often involving secondary disability, overwhelms their current disability. Nonetheless, it does not necessary mean that they become an ordinary elderly person. Rather they still feel exclusion from the elderly for their disability. As getting older they turn to face social barrier for both disability and old age. Also, they are trying to live their present lives in full while accepting the presence of death Our findings are hoped to help to understand how the disabled get old and view their death in their own way.
