  • In this study, to achieve the optimal conditions for mechanical hyper-fine pattern fabrication process, deformation behaviors of the materials during indentation were studied with numerical method by ABAQUS S/W. Brittle materials (Si, Pyrex glass 7740) were used as specimens, and forming conditions to reduce the elastic recovery and pile-up were proposed. The indenter was modeled a rigid surface. Minimum mesh sizes of specimens are 1-10nm. Comparisons between the experimental data and numerical result demonstrated that the finite element approach is capable of reproducing the loading-unloading behavior of a nanoindentation test.

  • In the recent years the using of low-density material such as high-strength Al alloy on the various industries is becoming light-weight. High strength and hollow Al alloy is good material for stiffness and recycling. Therefore the advanced manufacturing technology with Al alloy is continuously required in many industrial fields. In this study simplified hallow rectangular section of Al alloy is analyzed by FE analysis. Bending stress is affected punching and rotating of wing-die. The analysis of press bending is preformed at first. The elastic recovery value of component and stress distribution acting from the result of the bending angle of three types were obtained. The designed precesses were analyzed by the commercial FE code, Deform-3D. Forming dies for each process were designed and prototypes were manufactured by the verified forming process. Some of the important features of design parameters in the press bending were reviewed.

  • In order to study the semi-conductive characteristics of carbon black-filled ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) composite film, which is used for measuring occlusal force, composite samples with volume ratios of carbon black to EPDM ranging from 30% to 70% were prepared. The process of making a composite film consists of two steps, which involve the preparation of a slurry composition and the fabrication of a thin film using solution casting and a lamination process. To prepare the slurry composition, we dispersed carbon black nanoparticles into an organic solvent before mixing with an EPDM solution in toluene. The mechanical and electrical properties of the resulting carbon black-filled EPDM film were then investigated, and the results showed that the electrical resistance of a film decreases with the increase in the carbon black content. Furthermore, improved elastic recovery was observed after cross-linking the EPDM.

Brittle materials (Si, Pyrex glass 7740) were used as specimens, and forming conditions to reduce the elastic recovery and pile-up were proposed. The indenter was modeled as a rigid surface. Minimum mesh sizes of specimens are 1-l0nm. Variables of the nanoindentation scratch test analysis are scratching speed, scratching load, tip radius and tip geometry. The nano-indentation scratch tests were performed by using the Berkovich pyramidal diamond indenter. Comparison between the experimental data and numerical result demonstrated that the FEM approach can be a good model of the nanoindentation scratch test. The result of the investigation will be applied to the fabrication of the hyper-fine pattern.

  • Ultraprecision machining technology has been playing a rapidly increasing and important role in manufacturing. However, the physics of the micromachining process at very small depth of cut, which is typically 1 .mu. m or less is not well understool. Shear along the shear plane and friction at the rake face dominate in conventional machining range. But sliding along the flank face of the tool due to the elastic recovery of the workpiece material and the effects of plowing due to the large effective negative rake angle resultant from the tool edge radius may become important in micromachining range. This paper suggests an orthogonal cutting model considering the cutting edge radius and then quantifies the effect of plowing due to the large effective negative rake angle.

  • A high strength steel sheet (HSSS) has widely used to improve the specific rigidity of parts and the safety of the passenger in automotive industries. However, the HSSS is difficult to manufacture precise parts through a forming process due to the reduced elongation and the increased elastic recovery. The goal of the paper is to investigate the improved design of bending dies for DP590 HSSS. The over forming type bending dies with cam systems added to the side of the formed part is proposed to improve the quality of the part. The effects of the die design and the forming parameter on formability and elastic recovery characteristics is examined using finite element analyses (FEAs). From the results of FEAs, proper die design and forming parameters are predicted.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the High Functional Covering machine and the Compound Twister to produce the high value added textile goods and to meet the consumer's needs. For the study, 8 yarns and 12 fabrics were made with two developed machines and the tensile characteristics of the samples were tested and analysed. The result indicated that the sample fabrics kept their elongation regardless of buffering process. Elongation of the sample yarns was higher than those of yarns made with a traditional covering method. Elastic recovery of the sample fabrics was more effected by the recovery rate than by the number of extension and the characteristics of the sample yarns and fabrics were comparable to the yarns and fabrics made with a traditional covering method in terms of the position of Spandex yarns in their yarn structure and buffering effect.

  • In the tandem cold rolling mill, the quality is very important and requirements for thickness accuracy become more strict. Howerver, the mathematical model for prediction of rolling force was not considered an elastic deformation at the entry and delivery side of the contacted area between the worked roll and rolling strip so that where was so difficult to control of the thickness. To overcome this problem, the mathematical model included an elastic deformation of strip has been developed and applied to the field in order to predict the rolling force. The simulated results showed that the effect of elastic recovery should be included the model, even f the effect of elastic compression was not important.

  • An application of the instrumented indentation technique has been expanded from the measurements of hardness and elastic modulus to the analysis of residual stress. A slope of the indentation loading curve increases (or decreases) according to compressive (or tensile) residual stress. A theoretical equation has been established for quantifying residual stress from the slope change. However, a precise observation of the remnant indents is indispensible because the theoretical approach needs actual contact information. In addition, the conventional hardness test is still used for predicting the residual stress distribution of welded joints. Thus, we observed the three-dimensional morphologies of the remnant indents formed on artificial stress states and analyzed stress effects on morphological recovery of the indents. First, a depth recovery ratio, which has been regarded as a sensitive stress indicator, did not show a clear dependency with the residual stress. Thus an analysis on volumetric recovery was tried in this study and yielded a inverse proportional behavior with the residual stress. In addition, an elastic to plastic volume recovery ratio showed more significant correlation with the residual stress.

  • UV-curable polyurethane acrylate prepolymers were prepared from diisocyanates [isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), 2,4-toluene diisocyanate (TDI), or 4,4'-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate (H$_{12}$MDI)], diols [ethylene glycol (EG), 1,4-butane diol (BD), or 1,6-hexane diol (HD)], polypropylene glycol as a polyol. UY-curable mixtures were formulated from the prepolymer (90 wt%), reactive diluent monomer trimethylol propane triacrylate (10 wt%). and photoinitiator 1-hydroxycy-clohexyl ketone (3 wt% based on prepolymer/diluent). The effects of different diisocyanates/low molecular weigh dial on the dynamic mechanical thermal properties and elastic recovery of UV-cured polyurethane acrylate films were examined. The tensile storage modulus increased a little in the order of EG > BD > HD at the same diisocyanate. Two loss modulus peaks for all samples are observed owing to the glads transition of softs segments ($T_gh$) and the glass transition temperature of hard segments ($T_gh$). For the same diisocyanate, $T_gh$, decreased, however, $T_gh$ increased, in the order of HD > BD > EG. The elastic recovery also increased in the order of HD > BD > EG at the same diisocyanate. In case of same diols, $T_gh$ increased in the order of $H_12$MDl > TDI > IPDI significantly. The ultimate elongation and elastic recovery increased in the order of TDI > IPDI > $H_12$MDl at the same diol.l.
