  • The elastic modulus and wear resistance in austempered ductile cast iron(ADI) are two important mechanical properties for automobile parts. Therefore, the effect of Cu, Ni, Mo and special austempering treatment such as preheated, prequenched, and step austempering treatments on elastic modulus and wear resistance has been investigated systomatically. As a result, elastic modulus and wear resistance were increased by the addition of Mo-Cu and preheated austempering treatment.

  • For the proper design of a slender compression member, the exact determination of the elastic critical load is crucial, In the cases of non-prismatic compression members, the determinations of the elastic critical load cannot be usually expressed in closed forms. h this paper, the non-symmetrically tapered compression members with arbitrary boundary conditions me analysed by using the finite element method to determine the elastic critical load. The main parameters considered in the numerical analysis are the In Parameter, $\alpha$ and the sectional property parameter, m. To generaliza the unmerical analysis, of the computed results for each sectional parameter, m are presented in algebraic equations, which agrees fairy well with those by F.E.M in most cases.

  • In this paper, to analyze the initial valued non-homogeneous elastic half space by the scaled boundary analysis, the infinite element approach was introduced. The free surface of the initial valued non-homogeneous elastic half space was mode1ed as a circumferential direction of boundary scaled boundary coordinate. The infinite element was used to represent the infinite length of the free surface. The initial value of material property(elastic modulus) was considered by the combination of the position of the sealing center and the power function of the radial direction. By use of the mapping type infinite element, the consistent e1ements formulation could be available. The performance and the feasibility of proposed approach are examined by two numerical examples.

  • This study investigated fundamental properties of the recycled aggregate which was produced through recent hi-techniques of recycling. In addition, the mechanical properties of the concrete that used the recycled aggregate were compared to the concrete used the natural aggregate. From the results of the mechanical property tests, as the recycled aggregate replacement ratio increased, the compressive strength and elastic modulus decreased. When the recycled aggregate completely replaced the natural aggregate, the compressive strength and elastic modulus was about 15$\%$ and 35$\%$ lower than the natural aggregate concrete, respectively. Based on the test results, equations for prediction of compressive strength and elastic modulus were suggested in the consideration of the amount of the replaced recycled aggregate. Based on the test results and study, the equation predicting the required development length of the recycled aggregate concrete is proposed.

  • In this paper, we investigated electrical property of epoxy resin which includes elastomers to improve electrical and mechanical property, as varied to additive elastomer contents. There are four samples with 5[phr], 10[phr], 15[phr] and 20[phr]. We meIt was experimented with changing temperature($-80^{\circ}C{\sim}50^{\circ}C$) and frequency (10Hz, 60Hz, 1kHz, 10kHz) According to the experimental results, when the additive elastomer contents are increasing, the permittivity and tan${\delta}$ has very high value in particular at low frequency and high temperature. It also appears that those increasing rates relate to additive elastomer contents. That is to say, even though epoxy resin are improved in mechanical property according to elastomer contents, the elastic epoxy can has bad dielectric characteristics for electrical power application.

  • The elastic modulus is an important parameter to characterize the property of rock. It is common knowledge that the strengths of rocks are significantly different under tension and compression. However, little attention has been paid to the bi-modularity of rock. To validate whether the rock elastic moduli in tension and compression are the same, Brazilian disc, direct tension and compression tests were conducted. A horizontal laser displacement meter and a pair of vertical and transverse strain gauges were applied. Four types of materials were tested, including three types of rock materials and one type of steel material. A comprehensive comparison of the elastic moduli based on different experimental results was presented, and a tension-compression anisotropy model was proposed to explain the experimental results. The results from this study indicate that the rock elastic modulus is different under tension and compression. The ratio of the rock elastic moduli under compression and tension ranges from 2 to 4. The rock tensile moduli from the strain data and displacement data are approximate. The elastic moduli from the Brazilian disc test are consistent with those from the uniaxial tension and compression tests. The Brazilian disc test is a convenient method for estimating the tensile and compressive moduli of rock materials.

  • In this paper, the possibility of plastic deformation of rifle and gun barrels is studied through the numerical methods. When a rifle or tank gun is fired, the expansive deformation of the barrel can occur by the explosive pressure and the thermal effect. Using the ABAQUS program, the stresses and displacements are computed for the elastic and elastic-plastic material property, and the possibility of plasticity deformation is investigated. In conclusion, rifle and tank gun barrel the plastic deformation occurred in some parts of the barrel

  • Numerical calculations are made in order to find a possible correlation between the J-integral and the crack mouth opening displacement(CMOD) in dynamic nonlinear fracture experiments of 3-point bend(3PB) specimens. Both elastic-plastic and elastic-viscoplastic materials are considered at different impact velocities. The J-integral may be estimated from the crack mouth opening displacement which can be measured directly from photographs taken during dynamic experiments.

  • In this study, a numerical model of a shield tunnel with an assembled segmental lining was built. The seismic response of the segmental lining of the section of the shield tunnel in Line 1 of the Chengdu Metro is analyzed as it passes through the interface of sand-cobble and mudstone layers. To do so, the node-stress seismic-motion input method was used to input the seismic motion measured during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, and the joint openings and dislocations associated with the earthquake action were obtained. With reference to the Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer (EPDM) sealing gaskets used in the shield tunnels in the Chengdu Metro, numerical simulation was applied to analyze the contact pressure along the seepage paths and the waterproof property under different joint openings and dislocations. A laboratory test on the elastic sealing gasket was also conducted to study its waterproof property. The test results accord well with the numerical results and the occurrence of water seepage in the section of the shield tunnel in Line 1 of the Chengdu Metro during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake was verified. These research results demonstrate the deformation of segmental joint under earthquake, also demonstrate the relationship between segmental joint deformation and waterproof property.

  • Large amounts of natural gas, mainly methane, in the form of hydrates are stored on continental margins. When gas hydrates are dissociated by any environmental trigger, generation of excess pore pressure due to released free gas may cause sediment deformation and weakening. Hence, damage on offshore structures or submarine landslide can occur by gas hydrate dissociation. Therefore, geotechnical stability of gas hydrate bearing sediments is in need to be securely assessed. However, geotechnical characteristics of gas hydrates bearing sediments including small-strain elastic moduli have been poorly identified. Synthesizing gas hydrate in natural seabed sediment specimen, which is mainly composed of silty-to-clayey soils, has been hardly attempted due to their low permeability. Moreover, it has been known that hydrate loci in pore spaces and heterogeneity of hydrate growth in specimen scale play a critical role in determining physical properties of hydrate bearing sediments. In the presented study, we synthesized gas hydrate containing sediments in an instrumented oedometric cell. Geotechnical and geophysical properties of gas hydrate bearing sediments including compressibility, small-strain elastic moduli, elastic wave, and electrical resistivity are determined by wave-based techniques during loading and unloading processes. Significant changes in volume change, elastic wave, and electrical resistivity have been observed during formation and dissociation of gas hydrate. Experimental results and analyses reveal that geotechnical properties of gas hydrates bearing sediments are highly governed by hydrate saturation, effective stress, void ratio, and soil types as well as morphological feature of hydrate formation in sediments.
