Laminated Rectangular plates embedded in elastic foundations are used in many mechanical structures. This study presents an analytical approach for transverse bending analysis of an embedded symmetric laminated rectangular plate using Mindlin plate theory. The surrounding elastic medium is simulated using Pasternak foundation. Adopting the Mindlin plate theory, the governing equations are derived based on strain-displacement relation, energy method and Hamilton's principle. The exact analysis is performed for this case when all four ends are simply supported. The effects of the plate length, elastic medium and applied force on the plate transverse bending are shown. Results indicate that the maximum deflection of the laminated plate decreases when considering an elastic medium. In addition, the deflection of the laminated plate increases with increasing the plate width and length.

An improved numerical method to obtain the exact element stiffness matrix is newly proposed to perform the spatially coupled elastic and stability analyses of non-symmetric thin-walled beam-columns with two-types of elastic foundation. This method overcomes drawbacks of the previous method to evaluate the exact stiffness matrix for the spatially coupled stability analysis of thin-walled beam-column. This numerical technique is firstly accomplished via a generalized eigenproblem associated with 14 displacement parameters by transforming equilibrium equations to a set of first order simultaneous ordinary differential equations. Then exact displacement functions are constructed by combining eigensolutions and polynomial solutions corresponding to non-zero and zero eigenvalues, respectively. Consequently an exact stiffness matrix is evaluated by applying the member force-deformation relationships to these displacement functions.

The main purpose of this paper is to apply differential transformation method(DTM) and generalized differential quadrature method(GDQM) to vibration analysis of Euler-Bernoulli beam with open cracks on elastic foundation. In this paper the concepts of DTM and GDQM were briefly introduced. The governing equation of motion of the beam with open cracks on elastic foundation is derived. The cracks are modeled by massless substitute spring. The effects of the crack location, size and the foundation constants, on the natural frequencies of the beam, are investigated. Numerical calculations are carried out and compared with previous published results.
Functionally graded material (FGM) has been spotlighted as an advanced composite material due to its excellent thermo-mechanical performance. And the buckling of FGM resting on elastic foundations has been a challenging subject because its behavior is directly connected to the structural safety. In this context, this paper is concerned with a numerical buckling analysis of metal-ceramic FG plates resting on a two-parameter (Pasternak-type) elastic foundation. The buckling problem is formulated based on the neutral surface and the (1,1,0) hierarchical model, and it is numerically approximated by 2-D natural element method (NEM) which provides a high accuracy even for coarse grid. The derived eigenvalue equations are solved by employing Lanczos and Jacobi algorithms. The numerical results are compared with the reference solutions through the benchmark test, from which the reliability of present numerical method has been verified. Using the developed numerical method, the critical buckling loads of metal-ceramic FG plates are parametrically investigated with respect to the major design parameters.
In this article, thermal post-buckling and primary resonance of the porous functionally graded material (FGM) beams in thermal environment considering the geometric imperfection are studied, the material properties of FGM beams are assumed to vary along the thickness of the beam, meanwhile, the porosity volume fraction, geometric imperfection, temperature, and the elastic foundation are considered, using the Euler-Lagrange equation, the nonlinear vibration equations are derived, after the dimensionless processing, the dimensionless equations of motion can be obtained. Then, the two-step perturbation method is applied to solve the vibration problems, the resonance and thermal post-buckling response relations are obtained. Finally, the functionally graded index, the porosity volume fraction, temperature, geometric imperfection, and the elastic foundation on the resonance behaviors of the FGM beams are presented. It can be found that these parameters can influence the thermal post-buckling and primary resonance problems.

The aim of this research is a comprehensive review and evaluation of beam theories resting on elastic foundations that used to model mode-I delamination in multidirectional laminated composite by DCB specimen. A compliance based approach is used to calculate critical strain energy release rate (SERR). Two well-known beam theories, i.e. Euler-Bernoulli (EB) and Timoshenko beams (TB), on Winkler and Pasternak elastic foundations (WEF and PEF) are considered. In each case, a closed-form solution is presented for compliance versus crack length, effective material properties and geometrical dimensions. Effective flexural modulus ($E_{fx}$) and out-of-plane extensional stiffness ($E_z$) are used in all models instead of transversely isotropic assumption in composite laminates. Eventually, the analytical solutions are compared with experimental results available in the literature for unidirectional ($[0^{\circ}]_6$) and antisymmetric angle-ply ($[{\pm}30^{\circ}]_5$, and $[{\pm}45^{\circ}]_5$) lay-ups. TB on WEF is a simple model that predicts more accurate results for compliance and SERR in unidirectional laminates in comparison to other models. TB on PEF, in accordance with Williams (1989) assumptions, is too stiff for unidirectional DCB specimens, whereas in angle-ply DCB specimens it gives more reliable results. That it shows the effects of transverse shear deformation and root rotation on SERR value in composite DCB specimens.

This work presents the buckling investigation of functionally graded plates resting on two parameter elastic foundations by using a new hyperbolic plate theory. The main advantage of this theory is that, in addition to including the shear deformation effect, the displacement field is modelled with only four unknowns and which is even less than the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) by introducing undetermined integral terms, hence it is unnecessary to use shear correction factors. The governing equations are derived using Hamilton's principle and solved using Navier's steps. The validation of the proposed theoretical model is performed to demonstrate the efficacy of the model. The effects of various parameters like the Winkler and Pasternak modulus coefficients, inhomogeneity parameter, aspect ratio and thickness ratio on the behaviour of the functionally graded plates are studied. It can be concluded that the present theory is not only accurate but also simple in predicting the critical buckling loads of functionally graded plates on elastic foundation.
This model is proposed to describe the buckling behavior of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) embedded in an elastic medium taking into account the combined effects of the magnetic field, the temperature, the nonlocal parameter, the number of walls. Using Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory, thin cylindrical shell theory and Van der Waal force (VdW) interactions, we develop a system of partial differential equations governing the buckling response of CNTs embedded on Winkler, Pasternak, and Kerr foundations in a thermal-magnetic environment. The pre-buckling stresses are obtained by applying airy's stress function and an adjacent equilibrium criterion. To estimate the nonlocal critical buckling load of CNTs under the simultaneous effects of the magnetic field, the temperature change, and the number of walls, an optimization technique is proposed. Furthermore, analytical formulas are developed to obtain the buckling behavior of SWCNTs embedded in an elastic medium without taking into account the effects of the nonlocal parameter. These formulas take into account VdW interactions between adjacent tubes and the effect of terms involving differences in tube radii generally neglected in the derived expressions of the critical buckling load published in the literature. Most scientific research on modeling the effects of magnetic fields is based on beam theories, this motivation pushes me to develop a cylindrical shell model for studying the effect of the magnetic field on the static behavior of CNTs. The results show that the magnetic field has significant effects on the static behavior of CNTs and can lead to slow buckling. On the other hand, thermal effects reduce the critical buckling load. The findings in this work can help us design of CNTs for various applications (e.g. structural, electrical, mechanical and biological applications) in a thermal and magnetic environment.

Foundations are a vital part of structures. Over time, the foundations can deteriorate due to unforeseen overloads and/or settlements, resulting in the appearance of cracks in the concrete. These cracks produce changes in the static and dynamic behavior of the affected foundation, which alter its load carrying capacity. In this work, non-destructive techniques of relative simplicity of application are presented for the detection, location, and quantification of damage, using numerical models, solved with the finite element method and Power Series. For this, two types of parameters are used: static (displacement and elastic curvature) and dynamics (natural frequencies). In the static analysis, the damage detection is done by means of a finite elements model representing a beam supported on an elastic foundation with a discrete crack that varies in length and location. With regard to dynamic analysis, the governing equations of the model are presented and a method based on Power Series is used to obtain the solution for a data set, which could be the Winkler coefficient, the location of the crack or the frequency. In order to validate the proposed methodologies, these techniques are applied to data obtained from laboratory tests.
In this paper, response of pile foundations under seismic loading is studied for use in aseismic design of deep foundations. Both the pseudostatic methods such as subgrade reaction theory by Reese, and elastic analysis by Poulos, and the dynamic methods proposed by, respectively, Prakash and Gazetas, are used for this study. The top displacements and maximum bending moments of example piles are obtained by each method mentioned above, and the results by each method are compared among others. The group pile effects are also considered approximately. The calculated results are compared with experimental results obtained by Novak in 1984. The pseudostatic methods, combined with dynamic group interaction factors, and the dynamic method proposed by Gazetas which considers both kinematic interaction and inertial interaction, separately, estimate the top displacements reasonably well : the method by Prakah or the pseudostatic methods combined with static group interaction factors may overestimate the top displacements and bending moments as well. Therefore, it is recommended to the the simple elastic analysis combined with dynamic group interaction factors for aseismic design of pile foundatins and to confirm the results by the Gaz etas' dynamic methods.
