Field Application of Egg and Larval Parasitic Fungi and Chemicals for Controlling Root-knot Nematodes on Some Medicinal Herb (몇종의 선충천적 진균과 화학약제를 이용한 약용작물 뿌리혹선충 방제효과 검토)

  • Series of studies were conducted to establish biological and chemical control method for Meloidogyne spp to medical herbs by applied of nematophagous fungi, Arthrobotrys spp, Fusarium spp, and egg parastic fungi, Paecilomyces lilacinus were applied for root-knot nematodes on medicinal herbs, Paeonia albiflora, Codonopsis lanceolata, Cnidium officinale. The results are as follow. In pot experiments, The no. of root gall and egg mass and larvae of Cnidium officinale. The results are as follow. In pot experiments. The no. of root gall and egg mass and larvae of Cnidium officinale, Codonopsis lanceolata, Paeonia japonica lowered in P. Lilacinus treated plots compare to untreated control plots. But A. thaumasia F. oxysporum treated plots were less effective. Effect of egg parasitic fungi and chemical treatment at divided root of Paeonia japonica after sterilized in pot were increased in the fresh weight, root weight, control effect in P. lilacinus treated plots as chemical, Carbo G treated plots compare to untreted control plots. I field experiment, the number of root gall, egg mass and nematode density of Paeonia were also suppressed in P. lilacinus treated plots. It was very effective continuous 2 years and transplanting time on Paeonia japonica infested soil with the M. hapla in field in both region, Chillgok and Euisung treated P. lilacinus as chemical treated plots. Soaking effect of insecticide for Paeonia japonica at diving shoot before transplating in pot were effective for 12hours immersion into 1,000 ppm of Benlate T + Mep Ec, Benlate T + Fenthion EC in pot and field Experiment. In the Examination of fungi activily on P.japonica field 1 year after soil treatment, Number of spore of P. lilacinus were 1,000~1,300 in 3 region except Euisung.

Image Analysis of Surimi Sol and Gel in Composite System

  • Surimi sol and gel were prepared by mixing egg albumin, starch, oil and carrageenan, which are used as representative ingredients in the surimi composite, at different ratio. Structural properties in surimi composite were investigated by examining the phase changes and dispersion pattern (average particle size, size range and the averge number of particle) of the particulate ingredients in sol and gel with an image analyzer. A staining technique of the specimen containing egg albumin in surimi gel was developed by adjusting pH of a toluidine staining solution. Image analysis revealed that size and density of ingredient particles were function of the level and dispersion of ingredients except of starch-incorporated surimi gel which showed maximum particle size at 6%.

Studies on Decision of Suitable Housing Density in Caged Laying Hens (케이지 산란계의 적정 사육밀도 구명에 관한 연구)

  • This experiment was conducted to determine the economic housing density levels on caged laying hens The experiment was carried out with 600 ISA Babcock strain of white coder and 450 ISA Brown strain of brown color for production period(21-72 weeks) from May 11. 1987 to June 27. 1988. The levels of housing density was employed 5 or 6 by hen's color from 272 to 920$\textrm{cm}^2$/per hen. The results obtained were summarzed as follows : 1. Although there were not statistically significant among the housing density levels, The body weight gain for pullet period(14-20 weeks) were in case of white pullet the lowest at the group of high crowding density (272$\textrm{cm}^2$/per pullet) and in case of Brown pullet was the lowest at the group of high crowding density(306$\textrm{cm}^2$/per pullet). 2. Viabillity of pullet from 14 to 20 weeks were more 97% and there urere not statistically significant among the housing density. 3. Viabillity of laying hens was increased as increasing housing density through the etire product period(21-72 weeks) but 453$\textrm{cm}^2$/per hen group(in case of brown hen) showed a significant difference (P<.05). 4. Rate of egg production through the etire production period(21-72 weeks) were significantly increased by increasing housing density (P<.05 or .01). 5. Average egg weight through the entire production period(21-72 weeks) was not significantly different among housing density levels at all laying kent 6. In case of white strain, egg mass per hen among treatment during the age of 63-72 weeks were decreased by increasing housing density, meanwhile, in case of brown strain were increased by decreasing housing density during the whole period and there were significant different among the all treatment 7. There were no significant different in feed intake among the all treatment through the entire production period(21-72 weeks) at the white strain laying hens but in case of brown strains, Feed intake were increased by increasing housing density and feeding spece/per hen, and there were significant different among the all treatment 8. Feed requirements per egg at white strain was the highest when the 272$\textrm{cm}^2$/per hen levels and at the brown strains was the highest when the 306$\textrm{cm}^2$/per hen levels, however, among the other treatment were no significant.

Effect of Inoculum Density and Temperature on Clover Cyst Nematode, Heterodera trifolii (온도와 접종밀도가 클로버씨스트선충의 증식에 미치는 영향)

  • Clover cyst nematode, Heterodera trifolii are one of the major pests that damage Chinese cabbage in high land cultivation area and have recently been distributed in Korea. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of temperature and inoculation density on the proliferation of clover cyst nematode. The clover cyst nematode was proliferated at $15-30^{\circ}C$ and the egg, female adult and cyst number was the highest at $20^{\circ}C$. As the inoculation density increased, the number of female cyst nematodes increased with the inoculation density and when 16 eggs were inoculated per gram of soil, the amount of growth, number of egg and cyst was the highest. Number of females and eggs were formed more in cabbage than in kale regardless of inoculation density. Chinese cabbage was a favorable host for clover cyst nematode growth than kale.

Effects of dietary supplementation of polysaccharide from Agaricus blazei Murr on productive performance, egg quality, blood metabolites, intestinal morphology and microbiota of Korean quail

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with Agaricus blazei polysaccharide (ABP) at varying concentrations on the performance, egg quality, blood biochemistry, intestinal morphology, and microflora of quail. Methods: The study involved a total of 2,700 Korean quails, which were randomly divided into three groups. The measured variables encompassed productive performance, egg parameters, carcass parameters, serum metabolites, immune response parameters, antioxidative properties, and gut microbiome. Results: The addition of ABP did not have a significant effect on average daily feed intake. However, it was found to increase the average daily egg weight and egg production rate, reduce the feed-egg ratio. There were no significant impacts on egg quality measures such as egg shape index, egg yolk index and color, egg yolk and protein content. However, ABP supplementation significantly increased the Hough unit (p<0.01) and decreased the rate of unqualified eggs (p<0.01). Regarding serum parameters, the inclusion led to an increase in total protein concentration (p<0.05) and a reduction in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (p<0.05). There were no significant effects observed on immune indicators such as immunoglobulin A (IgA) and IgM. ABP supplementation increased the levels of serum antioxidant indicators, including glutathione peroxidase, total superoxide dismutase (p<0.05), and total antioxidant capacity colorimeter (p<0.05). Furthermore, ABP supplementation significantly elevated the intramuscular fatty acid content in quail meat. Additionally, ABP supplementation demonstrated a significant improvement in the diversity of gut microbiota and induced alterations in the composition of the gut microbiota. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that dietary supplementation of ABP enhanced production performance and antioxidant capacity while increasing the levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids in quail muscle.

Characteristic of Oviposition and Effect of Density Suppression by Yellow-colored Sticky Trap on Ricania shantungensis (Hemiptera: Ricaniidae) in Blueberry (블루베리에서 갈색날개매미충의 산란특성 및 황색끈끈이트랩의 산란 억제효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the characteristics of oviposition and the effect of density suppression by yellow-colored sticky trap on Ricania shantungensis in blueberry. The occurrence of an egg mass of R. shantungensis in the upper, middle and lower region were 56.6~60.2%, 23.8~28.1% and 11.7~19.7%, respectively. The number of egg masses in the branch was investigated. Percentage of the branch with one egg mass was greatest (50.9%) than with two (20.5%), three (14.6%) and over four (14.0%). The effect of yellow-colored sticky trap to reduce the number of R. shantungensis egg masses in blueberry was also investigated. In a month after yellow sticky trap installation, 17.1 adults of R. shantungensis were attracted per trap. Moreover, the number of egg masses on a tree in yellow-colored sticky trap plot was much lower (0.4) than control (1.3). Consequently, this result shows that use of yellow-colored sticky trap may contribute to decrease ovipisotion rate of R. shantungensis in blueberry.

Effect and Mechanism of Glutamine on Productive Performance and Egg Quality of Laying Hens

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary glutamine (Gln) on the productive performance and egg quality of laying hens. A total of four hundred Lingnan Yellow laying hens aged 34 weeks were randomly assigned into four groups (100 laying hens/group), and fed, respectively, with diets supplemented with 0% (control group), 0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.8% Gln during the 6-week feeding period. The results were as follows. First, the productivity of laying hens fed with 0.8% Gln in diet was significantly increased (p<0.05); however, the egg quality (egg weight, yolk weight, shell weight, egg shape index, shell thickness, shell density, shell breaking strength, yolk color, yolk index, and Haugh unit) was not affected compared with that of the control group (p>0.05). Second, luteinizing hormone (LH) (p<0.01), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) (p<0.01), triiodothyronine ($T_3$), and tetraiodothyronine ($T_4$) contents (p<0.05) in blood of laying hens fed with 0.8% Gln in diets were also significantly improved, and greater improvement in the duodenum and oviduct structure was observed in that treatment group. This study indicated for the first time that diets with 0.8% Gln were able to increase the productive performance of laying hens through stimulating hormone secretion and better development of both the duodenum and oviduct structure in laying hens.

Effects of Dietary Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) on the Egg Quality (Conjugated Linoleic Acid(CLA)의 급여가 계란의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of the study was to investigate the effects of dietary conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) on the egg quality. The ISA Brown (200 days and 500 days) hens were assigned randomly to six diets containing 0, 0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4 and 4.8% CLA, respectively. The CLA contents was not detected in control eggs, whereas the CLA contents of eggs that fed with CLA diets was significantly increased (p.0.05) as increasing of dietary CLA levels and feeding periods. Eggs weight, Haugh unit (HU), shell color, shell weight, shell density, and shell thickness were not significantly different among treatments. However, the albumen height from hens fed CLA was significantly (P<0.05) lower than those of control at 7 weeks. As increasing of the CLA levels in diet, the rate of saturated fatty acid in egg yolk was increased and yolk color showed more yellow color. Especially, T4 showed significantly (P<0.05) more yellow color than those of control in yolk color. When e99s were boiled, egg yolks from CLA dietary groups showed significantly (p<0.05) higher hardness value than control.

Electron Microscopical Description on the Egg Stalk-like Structure of the Rockfish, Sebastes inermis (Teleostei: Scorpaenidae) (볼락 (Sebastes inermis) 난병 유사구조의 전자현미경적 기재)

  • The ovary of the rockfish, Sebastes inermis was cystovarian condition and consists of numerous ovarian lobules. Previtellogenic oocytes were embedded in the connective tissue of the ovarian lobules. As the oocytes grows, it protruded into the ovarian cavity and form grapes cluster-like structure with egg stalk-like structure. Yolk granules and zona radiata were not observed in the embedded early oocytes about 20 $\mu$m in diameter. In the oocytes about 80 $\mu$m in diameter, yolk granules with electron dense were abundant in the ooplasm near the egg stalk-like structure. However, pinocytosis was not obsened in the pore canal system of the zona radiata. In this stage, microfilaments, developed endoplasmic reticula, tubular mitochondria, granular materials with low electron density and active multivesicular bodies were observed in the egg stalk-like structure. This results suggest that the egg stalk-like structure of the rockfish are related with the oocyte attachment and exogenous vitellogenesis of the intial vitellogenic oocyte.

Clinical Characteristics of Patients with Functional Dyspepsia Diagnosed as Food Retention (식적으로 진단된 기능성소화불량 환자의 임상적 특성)

  • Objectives: This study investigated the clinical characteristics of functional dyspepsia (FD) patients with food retention (FR) in regard to the parameters of cutaneous electrogastrography (EGG), Ryodoraku, and heart rate variability (HRV). Methods: This study reviewed the clinical records of 33 FD patients with FR who filled out the FR Questionnaire for FD (FRQ-FD) and underwent EGG for six months from March 1st, 2021. We summarized the clinical characteristics of FD patients with FR and analyzed the correlation between FRQ-FD score and parameters of EGG, Ryodoraku, and HRV. Results: FRQ-FD scores had a positive correlation with percentage of postprandial bradygastria and negative correlation with power ratio, detected on Channel 2, 3 of EGG. The total average (TA) Ryodoraku score was lower, and the high frequency density (HF) of HRV was higher than the normal value. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that clinicians can use EGG, Ryodoraku, and HRV to increase the accuracy of diagnosing FR in FD patients.
