  • In this paper, a force control algorithm for edge following task is suggested. Through the contact state modeling between rigid part and end-effector of robot, contact force and contact angle that are essencial parameters to build the control strategies for following movement of end-effector are derived. From these two parameters, we discriminate the every contact state into 8 cases and calculate the new moving position and direction simply. For the experiment. RX90 robot from Staubli with robot language V$^{+}$ is applied and F/T sensor is attached to the wrist of robot with RCC. Finally, 3 edge following experiments including the following of corner point are executed with successful results.s.

  • An error analysis is very important to estimate performance of a precision machine. This study proposes an error analysis for a new parallel device, a cubic parallel device. The cubic parallel manipulator has error sources including upper and lower universal joint errors due to the directional changes in the link and actuation errors. The maximum errors of the end effector are affected by the axial direction changes of each links and the clearances of the universal joints when the parallel manipulator is moving along a path. It is found that the changes of errors mostly occur at the positions where the directions of exerting link forces shift. The error analysis is based on an error model formed from the relation between the universal point errors and the end-effector accuracy. The analysis method can be also used in predicting the accuracy of other parallel devices.

  • In displaying a virtual wall using a passive haptic device equipped with passive actuators such as electric brakes, unsmooth motion frequently occurs. This undesirable behavior is attributed to time delay due to slowness in the virtual environment update and force approximation due to the inability of a brake to generate torque in arbitrary directions. In this paper a new control scheme called direct control is proposed to achieve smooth display on the wall-following task with a passive haptic device. In direct control, brakes are controlled so that the normal component of a resultant force at the end-effector vanishes, based on the force analysis at the end-effector of the passive haptic device using the passive FME (Force Manipulability Ellipsoid). Various experiments have been conducted to verify the validity of the direct control scheme with a 2-link passive haptic system.

  • In general, the control of robot manipulator is classified into position control and force control. Position controllers give adequate performance when a manipulator is following a trajectory through space and end-effector has no contact with environment. However for most tasks performed by robot manipulator in industry, contact is made between the end-effector and manipulator's environment, so position control may not suffice. The objective of this study is to control both position of a manipulator and the contact forces generated at the hand by using a conceptually simple control law. Position and force control problem is decoupled into subtasts via taskspace formulation and inverse dynamics. Then, the position controllers are designed for the task space variable which represent tangent motion and the forte controllers are designed for the lash space variables which represent normal force.

  • To avoid the unit inconsistency problem in the conventional Jacobian matrix, new formulation of a dimensionally homogeneous inverse Jacobian matrix for parallel manipulators with a planar mobile platform by using three end-effector points was presented (Kim and Ryu, 2003). This paper presents force relationships between joint forces and Cartesian forces at the three End-Effector points. The derived force relationships can then be used for analyses of the input/output force transmission. These analyses, forward and inverse force transmission analyses, depend on the singular values of the derived unit consistent Jacobian matrix. Using the proposed force relationship, a numerical example is presented for actuator size design of a 3-RRR planar parallel manipulator.

  • The aim of this paper is to clarify the structural compliance of the constrained spatial flexible manipulator and to develop the force control by using the compliance of the links. Using the dependency of elastic deflections of links on contact force, vibrations for constrained vertical motion have been suppressed successfully by controlling the position of end-effector. However, for constrained horizontal motion, the vibrations cannot be suppressed by only controlling position of end-effector. We present the experimental results for constrained vertical motion, and constrained horizontal motion. Finally, a comparison between these results is presented to show the validity of link compliance.

  • In order to avoid the unit inconsistency problem in the conventional Jacobian matrix, previously we presented new formulation of a dimensionally homogeneous inverse Jacobian matrix for parallel manipulators with a planar mobile platform by using three end-effector points based on the velocity relationship [1]. This paper presents force relationships between joint forces and Cartesian forces at the three End-Effector points. The derived force relationships can then be used for analyses of the input/output force transmission. These analyses, forward and inverse force transmission analyses, depend on the singular values of the derived dimensionally homogeneous Jacobian matrix. Using the proposed force relationship, a numerical example is presented for actuator size design of a 3-RRR planar parallel manipulator.

  • In Korea, researches on year-round leaf vegetables production system are in progress, most of them focused on environmental control. Therefore, automation technologies for harvesting, transporting, and grading are in great demand. A robot system for harvesting lettuces, composed of a 3-DOF (degree of freedom) manipulator, an end-effector, a lettuce feeding conveyor, an air blower, a machine vision system, six photoelectric sensors, and a fuzzy logic controller, was developed. A fuzzy logic control was applied to determine appropriate grip force on lettuce. Leaf area index and height were used as input variables and voltage as an output variable for the fuzzy logic controller. Success rate of the lettuce harvesting was 94.12%, and average harvesting time was approximately 5 seconds per lettuce.

  • This study was carried out to develop gripper which to adaptive variable tray and to develop automatic transplanting system for seedling-production system between tray. This system consisted of five set of gripper and end-effector, a planting-width control unit, a tray transfer unit, and gripper moving device which move gripper between nursing tray and growing tray. This system used push-out rod to grasp plant instead of pull-out end -effector. Several types of fingers, which physically grip seedlings, were also developed and tested to ensure reliable transplanting operation of the gripper. The transplanting system detaches seedlings from a tray with push-o0ut rods, which were installed under the tray transfer unit. The performance of the transplanting system was evaluated by successive transplanting experiments. Using the best type of finger , the transplanting system produced 94.6% of transplanting success rate.

Automation technologies for harvesting , transporting and grading need to be developed. This study was conducted to develop harvesting process automation system profitable to a competitive price. 1. Manipulator and end-effector are to be designed and fabricated , and fuzzy logic controller for controlling these are to be composed. 2. The entire system constructed is to be evaluated through a performance test. A robot system for harvesting a lettuce was developed. It was composed of a manipulator with 20DOF (degrees of freedom) an end-effector, a lettuce feeding conveyor , an air blower , a machine vision device, 6 photoelectric sensors and a fuzzy logic controller. A fuzzy logic control was applied to determined appropriate grip force on lettuce. Leaf area index and height index were used as input parameters, and voltage was used as output parameter for the fuzzy logic controller . Success rate of the lettuce harvesting system was 93.06% , and average harvesting time was about 5 seconds per lettuce.
