Characteristics of Vortical Jet Structures of a Hydrofoil

  • Oscillating foil propulsion, the engineering application of fish-like movement of a hydrofoil, has received in recent decades as a possible competitor for propellers. The oscillating foil produces an effective angle of attack, resulting in a normal force vector with thrust and lift components, and it can be expected to be a new highly effective propulsion system. We have explored propulsion hydrodynamics as a concept in wake flow pattern. The present study has been examined various conditions such as oscillating frequencies and amplitudes in NACA0010 profile. Flow visualizations showed that high thrust was associated with the generation of moderately strong vortices, which subsequently combine with trailing-edge vorticity leading to the formation of a reverse $K\acute{a}rm\acute{a}n$ vortex street. Vortex generation was inherent to jet production and playeda fundamental role in the wake dynamics. And it was shown that the strong thrust coefficient obtained as the Strouhal number was larger.

  • The effectiveness of a UV(ultra violet) disinfection system depends on the characteristics of the waste water, flow conditions, the intensity of UV radiation, the amount of time the microorganisms are exposed to the radiation, and the reactor configuration. The wast water flow conditions are important factors in the design of UV disinfection system from the point of enhancement view of UV disinfection. The turbulent energy intensity in the wake by the vortex shedding are effective for UV radiation. Therewith the effectiveness of vortex generator is considered as a enhancement of UV disinfection. The experimental results presented give important evidences and explain that it is possible to predict UV disinfection performance based on flow experiments. An experimental investigation of two types of the vortex generator is presented. The qualitative and quantitative evaluations of the wake are made by flow visualization using smoke wire method and the measurement of vortex frequencies in the wind tunnel. From the experiment, following results were obtained that the delta wing type vortex generator is more effective than circular type because of the higher vortex frequencies and the smaller drag.

선박설계를 위한 계산유체역학의 활용 (The Application of CFD for Ship Design)

  • The issues associated with the application of CFD for ship design are addressed. Doubtlessly at the moment, CFD tools are very useful in evaluating hull forms prior to traditional towing tank tests. However, time-consuming pre-processing is an obstacle in the daily application of CFD tools to improve hull forms. The accuracy of computational modeling without sacrificing the usability of CFD system is also to be assessed. The wave generation is still predicted by using potential panel methods, while velocity profiles entering into propeller plane is solved using turbulent flow solvers. The choice of turbulence model is a key to predict nominal wake distribution within acceptable accuracy. The experimental data for CFD validation are invaluable to improve physical and numerical modeling. Other applications of CFD for ship design than hull form improvement are also given. It is certain that CFD can be a cost-effective tool for the design of new and better ships.

  • It is known that an oscillating airfoil can produce a driving force through the generation of a reversed $K\acute{a}rm\acute{a}n$ vortex street, and this can be expected to be a new highly effective propulsion system. We have been examined various conditions such as frequency number, amplitude in NACA 0010. As Strouhal number is greater than 0.08, wake profile with velocity deficit can be transformed into the wake with velocity excess. We also presented the experimental results on the unsteady vortices structure of the heaving airfoil at various parameters.

작업장 환기장치 최적화 유동 연구 (A Numerical Optimization Study on the Ventilation Flows in a Workshop)

  • A preliminary study is performed in order to design an effective ventilation equipment for the control of possible pollutants in a workshop. To this end, the Patankar's SIMPLE methodology is used to investigate the flow characteristics of the contaminated thermal deflected jet which is encounted often in practical hood system. SIMPLE-Consistent algorithm is employed for the pressure-velocity coupling appeared in momentum equations. A two equation, k-$\varepsilon$ model is used for Reynolds stresses. The prediction data is compared well against the experimental results by Chang(1989). Considering the control of the wake due to its high turbulence together with the stagnant feature has been investigated in term of major parameters such as temperature and magnitude of the discharge velocity. Detailed discussions are made to reduce the size of the wake region which give rise to pollutant concentration stratification.

와류 생성기를 이용한 수직벽 후류 제어의 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study of Manipulating the Vertical Fence Wake using the Vortex Generator)

  • The effect of vortex generators to manipulate the separated flow region behind the vertical fence was experimentally investigated. The experiments were performed in the circulating water channel. The parameters used in this study were the distance between the fence and vortex generators and size of vortex generators. Digital PIV method was applied to measure the instantaneous velocity fields around the fence. And the obtained flow properties were compared with those of fence How without the vortex generators. The obtained results quantitatively shows the specific size and distance of vortex generators which were effective to reduce the mean reattachment length of separation bubble behind the fence.

기체 유해물질 환기장치 설계를 위한 수치모사 (A Numerical Study for the Design of Ventilation System for the gaseous Pollutants)

  • A study is performed in order to design a effective ventilation equipment for the pollutants in workshop. The procedure has been used to calculate the flow in a confined rectangular space channel. A cross free stream is flowed from open space and jet stream including pollutants is injected from bottom area. Calculation results shows a wake region which exists immediarely downstream of the jet discharge and are compared with the experimental data. Calculation data are in good agreement with experimental results. A wake plays an important role on a stagnation of the pollutants. Thus ventilation equipment has to be designed without a stagnation region which give rise to concentration stratification. In this study, calculation parameters are the position and velocity of pollutants and fresh air from cross free stream. It is concluded that more measurements of local velocities, temperatures and concentrations of the pollutants.

웃음요법이 시설거주 노인의 우울과 수면 장애에 미치는 효과 : 체계적 고찰 및 메타분석 (Effects of Laughter Therapy on Depression and Sleep Wake Disorders of the Elderly in Residential Facilities : A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis)

  • 본 연구는 최근 증가하고 있는 시설거주 노인을 대상으로 건강문제로 보고되고 있는 우울과 수면장애에 대하여 웃음요법의 적용 효과를 확인하기 위한 연구이다. 이를 위해 시설거주 노인에게 웃음요법을 적용한 국내·외 실험연구들을 대상으로 체계적 고찰을 통해 연구 특성을 파악하고, 메타분석을 통해 우울과 수면장애에 대한 전체 효과크기와 중재 변인에 따른 효과크기를 파악하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 최종 선정된 12편의 실험연구를 체계적으로 고찰하고 결과 변수에 영향을 미치는 전체 효과크기를 분석한 결과, 웃음요법은 시설거주 노인의 우울 감소에 유의한 효과가 있었으며, 수면장애 감소에는 유의한 효과가 없었다. 중재 변인에 따라 분석한 결과 웃음요법은 시행 횟수 10회 미만, 중재 소요 시간 400분 미만이나 400-1,000분 미만에서 우울 감소에 효과적이었다. 수면장애의 경우 전체 효과크기는 유의하지 않았으나 중재 소요 시간 300분 미만에서 수면장애 감소에 효과적이었다. 이러한 결과는 웃음요법이 시설거주 노인의 우울 감소에 효과적이며, 이를 적용할 때 시행 횟수와 중재 소요 시간과 같은 중재 변인을 고려하는 것이 필요함을 시사한다. 시설거주 노인의 수가 증가하고 있고, 우울과 수면장애와 같은 건강문제의 발생률이 증가하고 있는 점을 감안할 때 추후 연구에서 본 연구 결과를 토대로 시설거주 노인의 우울과 수면장애 감소를 위한 적용지침이 개발될 필요가 있다.

2축(軸)2타선(舵船)의 조종운동 추정(推定)에 관한 연구 (Research on the Prediction of Maneuvering Motion for a Twin-Screw Twin-Rudder Ship)

  • 1축 1타선에 대한 조종운동 수학모델은 통상적인 경우 이미 확립되어 널리 사용되고 있다. 또한 저속이나 천수역에서의 조종운동계산에도 응용되고, 새로운 국면의 조종운동 해석에도 기존의 조종수학 모델이 근간이 되고 있다. 한편 2축 2타선과 같은 특수선형에 대해서는 Lee 등에 의한 상세한 구속모형시험 결과로 그 특성이 알려지게 되었고, 1축 1타를 기본으로 하는 기존 수학모델에 약간의 수정을 가함으로서 충분이 조종운동을 추정할 수 있음을 보였다. 본 논문에서는 2축 2타선에 대한 Propeller Effective Wake($1-w_p$)와 유효중립타각 (Effective Neutral Rudder Angle) ${\delta}_R$에 대한 추정모델을 제안하고, Hull의 유체력에 관해서도 Inoue의 추정식을 사용하여, 초기설계단계에서 선박의 주요치수, Propeller 및 타 제원만으로서 개략적인 2축 2타선의 조종운동 계산을 가능하도록 하였다. 이 추정법에 의한 조종운동 계산결과를 엄밀한 구속모형 시험 Data에 의한 계산과 비교하여, 본 논문에서 제안된 추정법의 유용성을 검증하였다.
